"This room is yours for use however you like, my lord. But may I ask what you intend to use it for? I can..."

"There is no need. You can leave me and my partner alone now. Oh, and just a warning—if anyone comes to disturb me tonight, then they must be ready to lose their lives."

Kaiden warned the innkeeper, and the man nodded with a terrified look on his face and quickly ran out.

The innkeeper was not usually intimidated, but this time, even he knew not to mess with the person who had just entered his place. So he signaled his usual people to stand down and not go after this person at all costs since it was too dangerous.

The thugs who were in league with him decided to ignore the innkeeper’s warning as greed took over. All they could think about was the money they could earn if they robbed the new but loaded patron of this inn.

So, once he was settled, they all looked at each other and decided to head toward his room.

Unfortunately for them, they were not the only ones after the wealthy patron. A few other parties of thieves had also noticed the wealthy patron and decided to go after him. And soon, they both clashed against each other in the middle of the hallway.

Startled, both looked at each other with wide-eyed expressions.

"What are you doing here? Don’t you know that this is my turf?"

The first person asked in an arrogant voice, only for the one in front of him to scoff at his words.

"Oh really? And now turfs also have names on them or something? And who says you can own an inn’s turf? This prey is ours. If you value your life, then leave right now."

The second person growled in a threatening way. Tensions rose from both sides as they both refused to back down. A fight was going to break out at this rate.

Unluckily for them, they were fighting in front of Emperor Kaiden’s room, and the loud noise attracted him as well. He opened the door, and both sides jumped up and clutched their chests in fear.

"Tsk, you both are too loud. You are going to wake up Shuu at this rate, and I cannot have that."

Cold and blank eyes looked at the two sides, and they tensed up. The pressure Kaiden released was not normal, and it forced the two parties to gasp for breath as they looked at his unblinking eyes.

They realized that the situation had just gone from bad to worse with their target’s arrival, and there was only one thing they could do. So the leader of the second gang of thieves turned toward the first and offered a temporary olive branch.

"Hey, I know we have our differences, but we should put them aside for now and face our enemy. Once he’s out of the picture, we can think about splitting the reward among each other, alright?"

The second thief party was not above murder to get what they wanted. And although the first party felt scared of this, they still decided to go along with the second party and nodded.

"Alright...we will help you out. Let’s take out this man—"

The leader of the first thief party was sent flying back without even realizing what was happening. By the time he recovered, the leader of the second party had joined him, and a stunned silence filled the air.

"Is that all? You have such pathetic skills, and you dared to come after me and my companion? Somehow, this is pissing me off even more."

The disappointed voice of Kaiden sounded slightly annoyed. It made the two thieves realize that they had not even managed to faze this man.

Fear suddenly grabbed hold of them, and their instincts instantly started working as well. They told the thieves that they needed to run if they wanted to live.

"Everyone, there is a change of plans. We are going to run now."

As soon as the words were out of the leader’s mouth, everyone around him quickly started to run away.

Kaiden watched them leave for a while before he forced his magic into his palms. It pulsed before it took the shape of a soft and cute bird. The bird nuzzled Kaiden’s hand before it tried to fly toward Shuu. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

But Kaiden caught that bird before it could fly toward Shuu and threw it out.

"Take care of those idiots first and then come back. I am sure you know what to do."

Kaiden told the bird, and the bird flipped its wings around, almost as if it was agitated and did not want to follow his orders.

But it settled down in the end and went after those two parties.

Once that was taken care of, Kaiden went back to bed. His arms wrapped themselves around Shuu once more, and his companion snuggled into his embrace.

Finally, peace returned to Kaiden, and he closed his eyes for a quick nap.

’I will think about everything else later. For now, I just want to sleep a little more and feel Shuu close to me.’

The sun had started to rise outside the window, but Emperor Kaiden did not care. All he cared about was feeling how close Shuu was to him currently.

Shuu snuggled even closer to him, and Kaiden’s heart stuttered.

"Ah, this is unfair, honey. How can you be so cute, even when you sleep? If you behave this cutely, then I won’t ever want to go back."

Kaiden whispered, and Shuu’s face immediately shifted into a disappointed and uncomfortable expression. It made Kaiden reach toward his face to ease those tense brows.

As soon as he did that, Shuu’s expression relaxed, and he looked normal once more. His reaction made Kaiden chuckle as he looked down.

"You are so cute, and I want to eat you all. But how dare you run away from me? This time, I will make sure I capture you perfectly so you won’t be able to run away from me."
