(BL) The Villain wants a Divorce!-Chapter 399: You got two people in there?
Eventually, the conversation got turned back to the serious topic but the tension was gone. Cass didn’t have to worry about Lucy fleeing either because he had both Cass and Edgar on his lap still.
Was Cass the colour of red he didn’t want to be? Yes. Could he leave the man’s lap now? No.
He’d tried already and a low, rumbling growl had been accompanied by a sharp glare from a predator that Cass had seen eat a man before. Did he get a tummy ache after and significantly take away from the terror factor of what he had done? Also yes, but not enough that Cass forgot that he had actually done that.
So, the tension was gone, Cass was now grumpy that he was stuck in Lucian’s lap, and Lord Ridgewood was still in his same spot, hadn’t moved, and Edgar had his hand on the back of Cass’ neck, playing with the hair at the nape of his neck gently.
At this point, if anyone else walked in, there was no way he could defend himself. He hoped for Fiona over Lady Ava though. He really didn’t want to have to explain the nonsense that her brother was up to with him and Lucian.
"So, your Mother, former Duchess Blackburn, made a deal with the demon king and you ended up with two fathers. Can I ask how that worked?" Lord Ridgewood asked carefully, shifting in his seat. Lucian seemed to be paying attention to what they were speaking about, but he also seemed greatly distracted. Cass couldn’t blame the man.
He could tell he was still shaking. He was putting on a front that he was okay, but Cass knew he was going to have to spend a significant amount of time later petting him down.
"I was a little curious about that too. She mentioned something about my human part of me, but I’m-"
"Ah!" Edgar cut Cass off, making a small exclamation as if he’d connected something. Everyone looked towards him and he was nodding. "It’s similar to what happened to me then, but I think at a much younger age." Edgar said and Cass stared at him. Thankfully, Edgar didn’t wait to be asked, he just explained. "For the contract with my family, even if it is a contract with the gods, I have to have my human side converted. At least a percentage. What your Mother was probably referring to was the fact that you needed a human base to convert. Especially since you mentioned that demon blood and fairy blood aren’t supposed to mix. Thus, two dads. Though I am curious. How did she convert your human blood?" He asked and Cass looked away from all of them. Grim.
"She probably had sex with the demon king." Cass said. That was what he gathered. "After all, the demon king this time is an incubus. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be in this situation." Cass said.
"What?" Lord Ridgewood exclaimed, shocked. Cass just shrugged. It made sense, given how he was able to seduce his Mom, make Cass, make that a part of the contract.
"It was how I was able to be made the way that I was. She’d been planning it for a while. It’s why my body is fucked up." Cass said and he felt Lucian’s grip on his waist tighten.
"You aren’t fucked up." He said softly and Cass chuckled.
"My body is fucked up, you’re just being nice." Cass said. "No one of this world is supposed to have a body like this." Cass said. Edgar shifted slightly in Lucian’s lap.
"No one of this world?" He repeated softly and Cass flinched. He had not forgotten that in his moment of weakness he had let Edgar witness something that he probably shouldn’t see. He had hoped that Edgar had forgotten it.
It appeared, from how he reacted, that he did not. Granted, a lot had been revealed and it was clear to him now that Cass was not a demon, at least, not the way that they had been worried about. It was also clear that he cared enough to be upset about his conversation with the demon king.
Cass could act, but he wasn’t great at it. Unless it was being a bitch.
Cass let out a shaky breath.
"I probably shouldn’t explain that part more. That was from the gods." Cass said softly and Lucian gave him a squeeze. Edgar’s grip on the back of Cass’ neck tightened as well.
"Cass." Edgar said softly. "I know that you had to be careful. It wasn’t like you had much choice when we were in the dungeon. You had to tell us, and in fairness, you couldn’t trust one of us with the truth." Cass flinched and so did Lord Ridgewood. "However, I think we have grown enough to hear what is actually going on. I know that something isn’t quite right. Things aren’t fully adding up with the story you told us. I don’t doubt you, but things aren’t quite right." Edgar said, before giving a soft smile. "When you get anxious or overwhelmed, your story doesn’t feel quite right." He said.
He didn’t completely rat Cass out, but he gave him enough of a hint that Cass knew he had to say something. Cass dropped his gaze to his lap, taking on all of the colours around him. Lucian with his black white, Edgar with his damn cream and white, and Cass, all black.
Cass gulped, feeling like he was going to throw up as his body rejected wanting to say anything. He’d already said so much, including the truth about this body as he knew it. As Cassian knew it.
Cass felt his eyes water, tense, frustrated, and he just didn’t want to say it.
"Do I have to?" Cass asked, his voice dropping. Edgar let out a soft gasp.
"Oh babe, don’t cry! I’m not trying-I just thought that if you were going to say everything now, it would be off your chest." Edgar said, panicked as Cass felt the first of a big, fat tear roll down his face. Edgar’s hand left the back of his neck to flutter around his face, tilting it up so that he could see it clearly. Cass was also crying silently now and Edgar looked panicked. "Oh Cass. I didn’t mean to make you cry." He said, sad. Cass sniffed.
His body was vibrating. He was so anxious about talking about it that he was crying from the feeling. The worry that they were going to reject him had never left. Had never disappeared from his mind. Once they knew what had actually happened, things would only get so much worse. Had Cass hinted at it? Yeah, but that’s all he did.
Hinted.
It was different once he’d actually said it.
He was so busy panicking that Cass didn’t realise that another feeling was swelling up from under his anxiety until it was too late.
A soft voice, a reminder that he was never alone. A threat wrapped in care in the only way a man who was raised by villains could be.
If you don’t tell them, I will.
Cass let out a soft gasp, shocked that it Cassian had spoken in his mind, and not only that, that it felt like he was betraying him.
"No." Cass whispered and damnit, it felt like Cassian was hugging him from the inside before Cass felt his body stiffen and Cassian did exactly what he said he would.
"When I, Cassian Blackburn, was injured enough to cause my soul to leave my body, I was summoned by the gods. During that time, I was told of a future that could come to pass if I continued down the path that I was on. I was given a few options to choose from. Keep going on the path and die, thus resetting the world just before the point that it was destroyed, attempt to change it on my own, or call in an expert from another world to take over for me. They would live my life for me knowing far more about the future than I would and they would change my fate. I chose the last option." It was so clear that it wasn’t Cass speaking.
Cass closed his eyes, his body, their body shaking as he felt Lucian stiffen completely. He couldn’t look at Edgar, Lucian, or Lord Ridgewood. He also knew that Cassian wasn’t done, and who the hell was Cass to fight him when he wanted to speak with his body? 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Caspian was tasked by the gods to save our world. I just happened to be the best vessel for him to do so. However, the demons seemed to know that something was strange about him and formed a dungeon around his darkest moments and forced his hand to reveal part of his truth at the time. You didn’t trust us then, and our connection was cut off due to the dungeon’s energy so I was unable to interfere at the time. Thus, he had to muddle what the truth was and what you would be willing to accept at the time. After all, demons are supposed to be the only ones who can take over the bodies of others. It wouldn’t make anyone trust the gods more if they found out that they could do the same." Cassian said with a soft chuckle. "However, Caspian is the least demonic man I’ve ever met. He just wants to protect his family." Cassian said and Cass shuddered.
Fuck.
There were so many ways that could have been explained. So many ways that that could have been done, and that was what he had decided on? Goddamnit, Cassian!
"So you didn’t have a sudden personality change?" Lucian asked, but his voice cracked. Cass winced.
"I mean, kinda?" Cass said, a little surprised that Cassian let Cass speak again. He could still feel him there, right at the forefront, ready to speak. It was a bit strange to Cass that Cassian didn’t force him to move out of Lucian’s lap.
"Oh, my gods. Are you able to feel what we do together?" Edgar asked, gasping, and Cass felt his whole face go red. He really didn’t want to answer that question. He was also terrified to hear the answer. If Cassian didn’t like what they were doing...
Thankfully, he didn’t have to.
"I trust Caspian’s judgement. Not just because he is the hero that the gods have chosen, but because he has consistently shown that he cares, deeply, for the people that he has in his heart. I, for some strange, unknown reason, appear to be one of those people. Repeatedly he has gotten angry on my behalf and punished those who I didn’t even realise had wronged me. I would never doubt any decision that he has made with our body, because it is not solely mine anymore. It is ours, and," he paused, chuckled, and shook his head. "I was never going to protest Cass living out a future I could only daydream about." Gasps.
Cass wasn’t even sure who was gasping. In horror, in shock, in fear. Cass wasn’t sure he wanted to know.
Until Lucian yanked him closer, nearly crushing Cass as he did so.
"So, there are two of you inside of there? How does that work?" He asked, clearly worried and Cass felt his lips curl up into a smile as Cassian continued to speak.
"You don’t need to worry much about me interfering or being at the forefront. I’m only really able to do so because we just came back from the temple. I tend to stay further back, just a helpful hand when things get a little tough. I won’t interfere. Caspian has made good decisions so far, and I don’t care that we’re going to turn more into a demon. At this point, I just want to rip the heads off of the legacy that those monsters left me. Caspian will do that." Cassian said and Cass felt him shift, fading away.
The silence that followed this confession felt too damn loud for Cass. He wanted to flee, just like Lucian did.
