Blood Queen Reborn-Chapter 38: One Last Fight
Erin made it to the gaming pods room at last, and entered the game of Power Fighters.
She knew she’d be safe here as guards protected the bodies of the students. Someone’s body being tampered with while in a VR world could spell disastrous results. It was surprisingly one of the safest areas at the school for a low level, but you could only stay there for as long as you could afford the money.
As she bought another hour of play time, she got into the VR pod yet again and opened up the game. It didn’t take long for her to get a notification from Hardsteely, one that wanted her to join his game party.
’Hardsteely...’ Erin thought, before recalling who he was, ’Ah, right, our fight ended because I ran out of time.’
She accepted, and soon enough, there were three people suddenly in the same area.
Nate looked upon Erin, and smiled, "You’re online! That’s great!"
After spending several hours in Power Fighters, Nate saw that Erin had just come online, so of course he had to send an invite. He was hoping that there would’ve actually been an opportunity to talk to her, when she suddenly pointed at Nate, and shouted.
"I want a rematch."
Nate was surprised, but that surprise turned into excitement, then into horror.
"I... I would love to, but I really need to use the bathroom," Nate said, embarrassed.
"Okay, then go. I can fight your friend instead while I wait," Erin bluntly replied.
"Me? But you already won against me," Sam stated.
"Take this as the opportunity to hone your skills," Nate quickly said, "Promise me you’ll stay online long enough for me to come back?"
Erin nodded, and Nate took that as the sign to log off.
With only Sam and Erin remaining, the two started a match. Sam was ready to use the cape again. Since their last fight, he was thinking up on strategies on how to use it better.
"3...2...1... GO!"
Immediately, Erin flash stepped towards Sam, dodging a few wind slash attacks as she did.
Once she was within striking distance, she held her sword up high. Sam was ready to block and covered himself with the cape, careful to not block his vision. However, Erin used flash step again, and was suddenly behind him.
Erin threw out a few bloodswipe from her sword, which dug into Sam’s unprotected back. He quickly turned around, and Erin was able to flash step again. She was about to do the same thing as before when Sam had covered his back this time.
’She’s so much faster now!’ Sam thought.
Erin decided to try to send blood swipes at his back anyways, thinking that with her improved strength she’d be able to bypass the cape, but her attacks left only small scratches. They were bigger than last time, but not by much.
Judging by how she felt, she could’ve done two more flash steps before growing too exhausted to move.
Sam sent out an array of wind slashes in the air, and charged at Erin with his daggers. For a normal human, this would’ve been difficult to dodge, but Erin used the flash step one more time, dancing around all of the wind slices. Then, she jumped up into the air, and stabbed downwards into Sam’s chest.
Sam tried to push her off of him, but Erin dug the sword deeper. With her strength, she was able to drag the sword downwards, doing further damage, and making Sam’s HP drop to 0. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
They were taken back to the lobby, and Sam was yet again disappointed with his fight.
Similarly, Erin was disappointed too. She fought Sam before and got EXP from defeating him, but she didn’t this time.
’I was able to defeat Quinn twice, and got EXP from him on both occasions, but I fought Sam twice, and didn’t,’ Erin thought, ’Is it because Quinn improved significantly between both fights? The system did also detect that Quinn’s power improved mid-fight
"Aw man, I lost again," He said to himself before looking at Erin, "Are you a second year? You fought pretty well."
Erin shook her head, "No, I’m a first year."
Sam looked a little disappointed with himself. He lost to someone who just joined military school. That was when Nate logged back onto the game, and joined Sam’s party
"Did I miss anything important?" Nate said.
"If you mean me losing yet again, then no," Sam sighed.
Erin walked up to Sam and looked at his cape. It was rather impressive, defending really well against her blood swipes.
"Where did you get the beast crystals for that?" She said pointing at it.
Sam grabbed the edge of his cape and lifted it up, "You mean this? We got the crystals for it from planet Caladi."
Nate then butted in happily explaining, "In your first portal outing, it’s guaranteed to be a green portal planet. They’re the safest planets. You’re very likely to go to either planet Caladi, Almpin, or Bartnee for your first trip. Those have well established military bases. After that, you’re going to be going to orange portal planets. Those tend to have more dangerous beasts that you’ll have to travel together as a whole class for, but you shouldn’t worry about that until your second year. Lastly are the red portal planets which—"
"I know," Erin bluntly spoke.
Nate looked a little defeated, "O-oh, you already knew all of that?"
"Well, uh... You gave me a little more than I already knew... so..." Erin awkwardly replied.
All of a sudden, Erin heard a notification ping. It sounded like one from her system, and not from the game itself. She opened it up, and saw what Quinn had to say.
{Quinn} Erin, I knew it, Peter is in trouble.
{Quinn} He said to meet up with him in the training room on the east side of the school.
{Erin} Why is that the sign he’s in trouble?
{Quinn} Its the message he sent. He sent me a text saying "I need help."
{Quinn} I should’ve realized it sooner. I saw him hang out with some higher levels the other day. It looked like he was in a hurry too.
{Erin} That doesn’t sound like a problem. Aren’t the high levels hanging out with him supposed to be a good thing?
{Quinn} That’s the issue. High levels would never hang out with us unless there was a reason for it.
{Quinn} Erin, come with me. Please.
{Quinn} I might need your help.
{Erin} Fine.
{Erin} That’s the place where the portals are stored, isn’t it?
{Erin} Normally, we aren’t allowed to go there.
{Quinn} That just concerns me more. Why would he be there if he wasn’t in danger?
{Erin} I’ll be there soon.
"Something came up, I gotta go," Erin said before promptly logging off.
"But— Wait—" Nate stammered, looking at the pixels disintegrating where Erin once was.
Sam walked up and patted Nate’s back, "Sorry, but I think you just have bad luck with girls."
