Chapter 216: The modification of Jimmy’s "twin" brother

Jimmy was far past the ’experimental button pushing’ phase. When it came to the cloning room within the bunker, he knew exactly what he was doing, and had studied the control panel in front of him to perfection, as if it was a video game that he very much enjoyed.

It may as well be a video game, because he could destroy, and clone creatures at will! Technologies that were this advanced could sometimes be difficult to tell apart from actual video games.

What kept him grounded, and attentive to what was going on, was the feeling of impending doom that followed him around like the plague. He was sure that he was going to die soon, and this was why he made his checkpoint earlier on. Without Jurassic Jesus here to protect him, and help him predict his death, he had to make due with the tools he was given, otherwise known as his intuition.

Unlike the predictions, or hard facts that JJ gave him in the past, he had no idea how he was going to die this time.

It might be by the hands of his own clone, it might be by the hands of some random, hairy caveman from the enemy brigades, or it might be from a random dinosaur, deep within the underworld where his new, shapeshifter friends were located. He didn’t know, he couldn’t be sure, but he wasn’t willing to take the risk of forgetting his recent memories either. The checkpoint, as of today, was his best friend.

Regarding the clone, or his ’twin brother’, he wanted to make sure that it didn’t turn out to be a nuisance in the future.

This was a difficult job to do, because he was dealing with a learned, modern human brain after all. The brain of his own, which was destined to blow his mana out of the water the moment he got too indulged in the brain modification.

"Damn... down at 33% already." He grunted. "If I run out of mana now, we’re fucked, Mika."

"Relax," She said. "If you stress yourself out, you’re gonna make a bunch of mistakes. I know that’s what happens to me when I’m not feeling right."

"Hmm..." He tried his best to focus. "You may be right."

Mika was briefed of what was going on, and the reality was that she was perhaps more stressed out than Jimmy, but she tried to maintain her composure. If the both of them panicked, they wouldn’t get anything done, but then again, she did have this great urge to freak out, because unlike Jimmy, she could not do anything to manage the disasters that were looming across, and underneath the grasslands.

Her magic, and her knowledge in general wasn’t enough for her to get involved, and manage the disasters that were to come. In the most literal sense, she was a Combat Mage, and since she wasn’t in combat right now, there wasn’t much she could do to help. All she could do was be patient, try to avoid freaking out, and help Jimmy stay calm as well.

She towered over him as he worked, ready to attack, if the clone Jimmy was working on turned hostile, but other than that, she also stroked his hair gently, and tried to comfort him in this hour of worry and distress.

Jimmy appreciated it. The warm comfort he felt from Mika, helped him focus a little bit better.

Since he already blew twelve-percent of his mana into the clone, focus and concentration was the tool that he needed the most, or else, if he failed to modify his clone properly, he’d essentially send tens of innocent shapeshifters to their doom tonight. He could not afford to mess up turning his ’twin brother’ into an ideal, helpful warrior.

To make things easier for himself, after deleting some memories, he then paused that task, and planted a few ideas in the clone’s mind instead. Rigid rules that the clone that the clone was supposed to follow, no matter where he was, and no matter the circumstances.

The rules were simple. The clone was not to attack anyone from within their home tribe, and he was not to ’lay claim’ over Jimmy’s girlfriends, be it the ones he had now, or the ones he might have in the future.

It might be counter-productive to clog the clone’s brain with rules like this, but Jimmy saw it as a fail safe. It was his Plan B just in case he ran out of mana before he could ’edit’ the clone’s brain properly, because after all, he didn’t have enough time to wait for his mana to bounce back if he ran out of it. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

The second wave of rules he planted on the clone were a lot more simple. He was to consider their home tribe as a comforting, friendly home of people he knew, and was fond of, a home that he could not be hesitant to protect if things came to it in the future. Paired with that, he was also to help, and cooperate with the shapeshifters in the best way he knew how, all for the sake of protecting them, and their way of life.

Those four rules he implemented were imprinted in the clone’s mind thoroughly, and the clone could not work around them even if he tried to do so! These rules were hopefully going to keep the clone docile towards friendly faces up until his last breath, because otherwise, if the clone grew his own, potentially vengeful motives, Jimmy would need to fight a man as powerful as himself, and at that point, the victor would be the one who could cause a heart attack the fastest.

Just like he said before, he did not want to hunt himself down anytime soon. It would be a fair battle, where the victor would be the first attacker.

Anyway, those rules didn’t drain a lot of his mana, they only took five percent of it, and with a twenty-eight percent mana pool left, he could now get back to edit a few memories.

As Jimmy looked at the temporal lobe, specifically at the part that contained the clone’s long-term memories, he was slapped in the face with the reminder that there were thousands of memories for him to either delete, or edit!

"For fuck’s sake..." He grunted. "This shit’s gonna take me a fucking month! Unless..."
