Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Snake

Her anger boiling over, but as she stood there, the heat in her chest slowly began to fade.

She had to control herself; getting too angry wouldn’t help her at all. Aurora would pay for everything she’s done, Eleanor thought, her gaze narrowing.

Just wait, Aurora. One day, you’ll fall from the stairs, and no one will be there to save you.

A dark smirk played across Eleanor’s face as the image of Aurora slipping, falling, and hitting her head flashed in her mind.

She imagined how it would be the perfect accident, no one would suspect a thing. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

In reality, however, Eleanor knew it would be someone else’s hand. One of the men working for the richest man in the city would get rid of Aurora for impersonating his daughter.

The idea of her being punished for her lies made Eleanor feel a cold satisfaction.

She took a deep breath, letting the anger leave her. It wasn’t worth it.

Aurora’s end would come soon enough, and Eleanor would make sure of it. For now, she needed to keep calm and focus on Theodore.

She straightened her back, smoothing her hair, and put on a bright smile.

She wasn’t going to let Olivia see her frustration. It was time to act sweet, to pretend everything was fine. After all, Olivia was still an obstacle she had to deal with.

A few minutes later, Olivia walked out of her room, looking as calm and composed as ever.

Eleanor could tell Olivia had been waiting and deliberately took her sweet time to come out.

Maybe she was still upset about the things she had done to Theodore. Olivia might have sensed that and hence dawdled.

Olivia was smarter than Eleanor had anticipated, but that didn’t matter. Eleanor would get what she wanted.

"Good morning, Olivia!" Eleanor said, her voice sugary sweet, though her mind was far from pleasant thoughts.

Olivia raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything. She already knew why Eleanor was there.

Eleanor might pretend like she didn’t understand the situation, but Olivia could see through her act. She was only here because she wanted Theodore.

"So, where’s Theodore?" Eleanor asked, her voice pretending to be casual. "I’ve got some physics problems that I’d really like him to solve."

Olivia just looked at her, unfazed. "He left for a project. He won’t be back for a while."

Eleanor hid her disappointment, but only just. She nodded slowly. It’s okay. This isn’t over yet.

"Oh, that’s fine. Can you tell me about his audition then?" she asked, her tone almost too innocent.

Olivia paused and gave her a knowing look. Eleanor immediately blushed and looked down, trying to act shy.

Olivia wasn’t fooled. She knew exactly what Eleanor was after, but she decided to play along.

After all, they’d been best friends once, and Olivia thought maybe, just maybe, Eleanor could still change. But in the back of her mind, Olivia knew better. Eleanor had lied so many times.

There was a reason Theodore had grown distant from her, and Olivia wasn’t going to help her this time.

"Well, you know how it is," Olivia said, her voice calm but slightly cold. "He doesn’t tell me anything. If you really like him, you should find him on your own."

Eleanor blinked, surprised by Olivia’s bluntness.

She was used to Olivia helping her, smoothing things over, but now Olivia was different.

’Why is she being like this?’ Eleanor thought. ’Does she think I’m just going to give up?’

She quickly hid her irritation and smiled sweetly,

"Olivia, come on. You know I’m serious about Theodore. You’re the only one who really knows where he is. Please, just help me out this one time."

Olivia gave her a cold look, her lips curving into a slight frown.

"If you’re serious about Theodore, Eleanor, you’re going to have to make some effort. I’m not going to hand you everything like I did before. You’ll have to work for it."

Eleanor’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes narrowed, and her hand instinctively clenched into a fist.

"You’ll regret this," she muttered under her breath, though she knew Olivia couldn’t hear her.

Inside, she imagined all the ways she could make Olivia suffer if she kept pushing Eleanor too far.

Olivia looked at Eleanor, almost pitying her. "I’m not helping you anymore. If you want to win Theodore over, you’re going to have to do it on your own."

The frustration that had been bubbling inside Eleanor finally erupted. Her hands balled into fists, her face flushing red with anger.

"Fine," she snapped, "I’ll do it myself. You’ll see." She thought to herself, If you think you can stop me, Olivia, you’re wrong. I’ll make sure you regret it.

But then, in the back of her mind, Eleanor thought about how Olivia would end up.

She was going to get what she deserved, too. She’ll get stomach cancer... and then, she’ll die. The thought soothed her anger, and her breathing slowed as she calmed down.

Olivia, sensing Eleanor’s shift in attitude, turned to leave. "I’m done talking," she said, turning on her heel and walking back to her room.

Eleanor left the living room without saying anything.

Aurora watched the interaction and suddenly said,

"Sister, I heard a very interesting story today. You know, there was a man once who had come across a little snake. Even though he knew how cold-blooded the snake was, he continued to raise the snake, thinking his warmth would change the snake."

Olivia paused and looked at Aurora with a raised eyebrow.

"When the snake grew up, it suddenly stopped eating. It even started to wrap itself around the owner during sleep.

The owner, worried about the snake’s health, went to a vet who asked if he knew that snakes stop eating and wrap themselves around something only when he was measuring if they have enough space in their stomach to eat the thing.

In their case, the snake was measuring the owner each night so that it could eat the owner without any problem."
