Bound to my Enemy-Chapter 180.
A gunshot rings through the air...louder now.
I flinch hard
"Keep moving," Aaron snaps, not slowing down until we reach the end of the alley and burst out into the open street.
Everything happens so fast after that, the car is already there, engine running with a driver inside waitin.
Aaron yanks the back door open and practically shoves me in.
"Get down!" he barks.
I don’t think, I jist drop doing exactly as I’m told. My body curls instinctively as I slide across the seat, my hands bracing against the leather.
Aaron jumps in right after me, slamming the door shut.
"Go!" he orders.
The car lurches forward immediately, tires screech against the road as we take off.
And then..... there’s more rapid gunshots, not from inside the shop this time.
Outside.
I jer my head up slightly before instinct kicks in again and I duck as the sound of bullets hitting metal rings out around us. One slams into the side of the car with a heavy thud.
Another cracks against the window, the glass vibrating but not shattering.
My breath catches in my throat.
"What the....."
"Stay down!" Aaron snaps, one arm pushing me lower.
I press myself further into the seat, my heart racing so fast it feels like it might explode.
More shots ring out erratically...::: like whoever is shooting doesn’t care what they hit as long as something does...and I’m starting to realize that something is me. Fuck some one died because of me, the waitress in there that bullet was meant for me,sh.....she’s dead because of me.
The driver swerves sharply and the car jerks to the side, then straightens a s another shot hit against the back of the car.
I gasp, my fingers gripping the seat tightly.
"Are they still behind us?" I shout, my voice shaking despite myself.
Aaron glances out the rear window briefly and his expression hardens.
"For now."
That does nothing to calm me as the car speeds up faster.
The engine roaring as we tear down the street, weaving through traffic.
Another sharp turn and my body slams lightly against the door before I catch myself.
The gunshots start to fade, still there br more distant now. The tension in the car doesn’t ease though.
Not yet, not even close.
My chest rises and falls rapidly as I slowly push myself up from where I’d been curled.
My hands are shaking, I can’t even stop them.
"What the hell just happened?" I breathe out.
My voice sounds thin and unsteady.
Aaron doesn’t answer immediately, he’s still watching the back still alert and ready.
Like this isnt ovee yet nd that thought alone makes my stomach twist all over again.
The car doesn’t slow if anything, it goes faster. The engine strains as the driver pushes it harder, weaving through the road like his life depends on it.... Because well it does.
Aaron is still watching the back when his expression changes.
"They’re still on us," he mutters.
I twist slightly, trying to look past him and I see it, two dark cars.. keeping up behind us.
My stomach tightens again.
"They’re not backing off," I say.
Aaron doesn’t answer that Instead, he leans forward slightly.
"Take the next turn," he tells the driver.
The driver hesitates for half a second.
"That road is....."
"Take it."
There’s no room for argument in his voice as the driver nods and jerks the wheel. The car swerves hard, tires screeching as we veer off the main road and onto a narrower one.
The difference is immediate, there’s no streetlights, cars or peopl on thr road. Just an empty stretch of road with trees lining both sids.
"Why are we using this road?" I ask, my voice tighter now.
Aaron finally looks at me.
"Because I don’t want any civilians caught in this..... ine is already dead from the ice cream shop."
My brows pull together.
"And if we stayed on the main road?"
"They’d start shooting anyway."
I nod once.
"Do you have a gun?"
I ask and Aaron doesn’t hesitate.
"Yes."
He leans down slightly, reaching under the seat in front of him.
There’s a small compartment there, it’s hidden. He pops it open and pulls out a black case and sets it between us, he opens it and
Inside... there’s guns In it more than one.
For a second, I just stare then I reach in and Aaron’s head turns sharply toward me as I pick one up.
The weight settles into my hand like something familiar, Something I haven’t touched in a while.
"What are you doing?" he asks, a hint of surprise breaking through his usual calm.
I check the safety out of habit. My fingers steady despite everything.
"What does it look like?" I say.
He studies me for a second longer.
"You know how to use that?"
I glance at him.
"Don’t worry."
Then back at the gun.
"I do."
There’s no time for more questions as the car behind us closes the distance fast.
"Fuck!" the driver shouts.
Aaron immediately rolls his window down and cold air rushes in violently.
I follow his lead, pushing my own window down. The wind hits my face, whipping my hair back as the noise of the road fills my ears.
And then.... The car behind us fires first as bullets hit the back of our car with loud, violent thuds.
I flinch but only for a second then instinct takes over.
Aaron leans out slightly and fires back precisely.
I grip the gun tighter and shift closer to the window. My heart is pounding again but this time... It’s different, I’m not helpless.
I lean out just enough to get a clear line of sight, the car behind us swerving slightly as more shots ring out.
I spot the driver... he’s hands tight on the wheel.
And something flashes in my mind, that same helpless feeling clawing up my throat. The panic and fear, the way it felt like I was drowning in it.
