Chapter 36: Battle of Dragon’s Mouth (1)

"This can’t be real... I’ve never seen this many legendary weapons in my life."

In Dragon’s Mouth, Levian had managed to equip all 22 knights with a legendary weapon. Whether that be a sword, staff, or dagger, everyone’s strength was much greater than before.

Even those that were ranked no higher than silver were equipped with these weapons.

It was was army that could only be put together by powerful rulers.

And Levian had done it.

He had contemplated giving them mythical weapons, however, he wasn’t yet comfortable with so many people knowing about this skill.

Also, it was dangerous to arm knights with mythical weapons, considering he could only take them back into his soulspace if he was holding the weapon themselves.

Legendaries were not as much of a risk.

"Jheez Bladeblessed, when you arrived with your black armour and red cape, I knew you were something special. But this... what the hell are you?" Sun said, inspecting his new legendary staff.

It was the first that Levian had created.

Should I tell them that I’m a true elf? They’re bound to find out when they make it back to Goldtree.

But before Levian could even speak, he heard the sounds of shuffling footsteps in the distance and cursed to himself.

The humans were moving, or at least preparing to move. That meant he had to act fast.

"Everyone gather around me."

The 22 knights stop inspecting their legendary weapons for a moment and stationed themselves around Levian.

It felt weird to have people following his orders, even if it was just a defeated army.

"Alright listen up. We need to get out of here before the humans can get the drop on us. To do that, we cannot rely on ourselves and our systems. Unless you’re ranked gold or above, you must rely on your weapon skills. With these, we can catch the enemy by surprise, create an opening, and b-line for Goldtree."

The knights tightened their grips around their weapons. The plan was simple and had many flaws, but it was all Levian could think of.

What he relied on, was the sudden boost of morale from equipping the elves with legendary weapons.

However, there was still something else that he could do.

He summoned White Sun into his hand. The giant two-handed mace with the glowing white orb at its head.

Even in the face of 22 legendary weapons, it held an unrivalled glamour.

"By the gods Bladeblessed. This, and the Black Sword. Just how many of these weapons do you have?" Sun whistled from the side.

Levian smirked, but ignored the man.

Six. However, I’ve only tested 3.

"Using this mythical weapon, I will create an opening in the enemy forces directly to our north. Afterwards, I will push through with the strongest fighters up front with me. Directly behind us will be mages, and behind them will be ranged fighters. The mages will provide aid to both our front and our flank."

All 22 knights nodded their heads, emblazoned with new vigour. Levian took himself by surprise at how natural it felt to command the force.

He only hoped that it would play out as well on the battlefield.

In the human camp surrounding Dragon’s Mouth...

"Commander Lucas, all the forces are gathered and prepared to launch their strikes. If the elves hunker up inside, then we’ve prepared strikes strong enough to potentially crack the entire Dragon’s Skull itself."

Commander Lucas nodded his head, whilst summoning his legendary longsword into his hand.

"That’s a shame." He said casually. "Destroying such an important historical monument might have repercussions... eh, fuck it. Emperor Rose ordered that we wrap the battle up, so we’ll do what we have to."

Commander Lucas raised his flag into the air, signalling to the surrounding forces that it was time to strike.

Right afterwards, over a hundred fists raised into the air, signalling that they had received his message.

"Alright... let’s move—"

"What the fuck is that!"

Commander Lucas’ words were cut up by the sound of a nearby knight, followed by an incredibly bright light coming from the direction of Dragon’s Mouth.

At first, he thought it had become daytime. The light was so bright that it revealed the locations of all of the regiments he had stationed nearby.

Then, he saw where the light was coming from.

A man whom he had never seen before stood outside of Dragon’s Mouth, dressed in sleek black armour and with a red cape flowing behind his back in the night wind.

In his hand was a large rod made from the purest white metal, and sitting atop the rod was...

"Bloody hell... that man is carrying the sun!"

The black figure launched the sun from atop his head and sent it slowly soaring in front of him. It travelled at the speed of a harmless bubble, but the power that it carried with it was tremendous.

Lucas cursed loudly. Everyone in the camps was fleeing, diving out of the way from where the sun was about to land.

And when it did, it created a shockwave that even uprooted trees in the distance.

An explosion of white light swallowed those that were unfortunate enough to be in its way, reducing them to nothing but ash.

Commander Lucas watched as at least ten men were killed, and ten more injured to the point where they were groaning and missing limbs.

Before he could even process the events, sudden war cries came from Dragon’s Mouth.

The figure in the black armour had rallied the forces behind him and was now charging towards the opening created by the giant attack.

The human knights were about to make a move to cut them down, and then...

CRASH!

"ARGHH!"

A short blonde elf wearing robes and a staff in his hand summoned a bolt of red lightning from the sky, crashing into one of the humans, killing them in an instant.

And he wasn’t the only one who wielded such a skill. Many others in the small forces of elves were using skills that they had never been capable of using before.

Commander Lucas stood there, fists clenched around his sword with increasing rage. His men were being slaughtered left, right, and centre.

"Shit... if you want a job done, sometimes you have to do it yourself."
