Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Truth Revealed, Snowy (Part 2)

Timothy avoided my gaze and didn’t answer me immediately. Instead, he slowly walked towards the stairwell.

I followed him.

I could clearly see the struggle in his eyes, as if he still wanted to suppress the truth, teetering on the edge of saying or not saying.

I spoke wearily, "No matter who you let raise Doris, no one will love her more than her own mother! Today’s incident is an example. If it were me, I could never just chat and forget about my daughter. Timothy, no one in this world can replace a mother."

These words were like a key, unlocking his defenses.

Timothy’s voice trembled, each word weighed down as if filled with lead, "You’re right, Doris is indeed your daughter. I took her away when she was born and deceived you."

Time seemed to freeze at that moment; my blood was boiling.

The next second, I suddenly raised my hand, the crisp sound of a slap echoed in the empty corridor.

"Timothy!"

My voice was sharp as if torn apart, tears rushed out instantly, "Can you tell me why? That was the child I carried for ten months, that I hoped for so long! How could you, how could you be so cruel!" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Each of my words was filled with blood and tears.

Timothy turned his head from the slap, clear finger marks on his face, yet he didn’t move.

He just looked at my reddened eyes, his voice hoarse, "Zoe, I have my difficulties. I can only tell you that Doris is your daughter, but I can’t say anything else for now."

To me, it was like hearing the biggest joke in the world; my laughter intensified with tears. I raised my hand for another slap, heavier than before.

He still didn’t dodge or show any anger. His cold face was only left with a deathly stillness.

I was trembling all over, feeling so distressed I could barely speak, "Then tell me, why did you marry me in the first place? The person you loved was never me! Why did you marry me?"

He swallowed hard, and after a long while, he said in a low voice, "I have always regarded you as a sister. My feelings for you... I have feelings for you, I never intended to hurt you."

"Slap!"

The third slap landed, he didn’t even blink.

He sees me as a sister?

Who would marry their own sister!

At that moment, Sophia saw me hitting her son, and when she walked in, both sides of his face were red.

It was imaginable how angry she was.

"Zoe Ellison, you bitch, how dare you lay hands on Timothy!"

With that, she came towards me, trying to avenge Timothy in kind.

But as soon as she raised her hand, Timothy grasped her arm.

Sophia said angrily, "Timothy, are you crazy? From childhood to adulthood, I couldn’t bear to hit you once, and you tolerate a woman trampling on your dignity like this!"

Timothy spoke in a low voice, "I deserve it, these are what I owe her."

My tears kept falling, suppressed for too long, four years.

My daughter, she had been alive all along, but she didn’t know I was her mother!

Ha, does Timothy really think a few slaps can repay what he owes me?

Sophia spoke harshly, "What do you owe her? She’s an insignificant orphan. You gave her a title, gave her prestige, she should be grateful! Even if Doris is her daughter, so what! Without you, can she raise the child alone? Following her, the child will suffer!"

"Mom!"

Timothy sternly stopped her, "Shut up! Doris is lying in the operating room right now, because of whom? If this time, Doris doesn’t come out safely, don’t blame me for disregarding our mother-son relationship!"

After he spoke, Sophia was completely stunned, looking at him in disbelief, "You... you want to sever our mother-son relationship?"

Timothy’s gaze was frighteningly cold, "Doris is the most important being in my life. I cannot allow anyone to harm her, whether intentionally or unintentionally. So, you better pray she’s okay."

Finally, Sophia stopped making a fuss, slowly walked to the bench in front of the operating room, and sat down heavily.

Timothy and I were already exhausted, neither of us spoke, silently walking to the door of the operating room to sit and wait for the surgery.

Several hours later, Doris’s surgery finally ended, and the doctor came out of the operating room.

Only then did I realize that the doctor who performed Doris’s surgery was actually Ezra Payne.

"Doris Xavier is your daughter?"

He removed his mask, his face inevitably showing a look of surprise.

I nodded, nervously asking, "Dr. Payne, how is she? Is she out of danger?"

Timothy and Sophia also immediately walked over, each person’s face was extremely solemn, staring at Ezra Payne.

"Rest assured, the surgery was very successful."

Ezra Payne said, "Fortunately, she was sent in time, and the blood transfusion was timely, no serious consequences. It’s just that she injured her head, and her hair was shaved off before the surgery. So... when the child wakes up, you have to comfort her well."

We finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Only Sophia spoke softly, "Doctor... she injured her head, will there be any sequelae? Becoming stupid or something?"

Timothy looked at his mother with displeasure, "No matter what Doris becomes, I will take care of her for life!"

Sophia realized she said the wrong thing and immediately shut her mouth.

I gratefully thanked Ezra Payne, he nodded and said, "You’re welcome. The child will be monitored in the ICU overnight, if nothing’s wrong, she’ll be transferred to a general ward tomorrow."

Speaking of this, Ezra Payne remembered the past disagreement with Timothy, and deliberately asked, "General ward is still in our neurosurgery. However, I see President Xavier doesn’t quite trust me, do you want to transfer your daughter to another expert?"

Timothy detected the sarcasm and was about to speak, I interrupted, "Dr. Payne, I trust you. Doris... is in your hands, please take good care of her."

Ezra Payne nodded, "If there’s anything, contact me, Jenna has my number."

"Okay."

I breathed a little easier.

After all, doctors always like to exaggerate the patient’s condition. And Ezra Payne is Jenna Sutton’s boyfriend, somewhat one of us, so he objectively spoke about Doris having no significant issues, which eased our minds in advance.

I was very grateful.

Timothy first turned to look at Sophia, his tone carried an undeniable exhaustion, "With Zoe and me here, it’s enough. Please go back and rest."

Sophia opened her mouth, probably still remembering his earlier warning to "sever mother-son relations," in the end, she just glared at me sullenly and turned to leave the hospital.

The inpatient department was extraordinarily quiet at night, with only patients’ families like us waiting for news in the corridors.

The ICU didn’t allow entry; there were only benches outside.

Jack Sullivan said he arranged a hotel next to the hospital for me to rest, but neither Timothy nor I left.

I leaned on the metal bench, as did Timothy.

After a long time, I broke the silence, "Timothy, can you let me go? Divorce me and give Doris back to me."

Timothy Xavier, upon hearing this, tiredly rubbed his brow, his eyes filled with bloodshot veins.

He remained silent for a few seconds before slowly speaking, "Can we talk about this after Doris recovers? If I return Doris to you now, and when she wakes up and doesn’t see me, do you think you can handle her given her current state?"

I clenched my hands, fingertips turning white.

Ultimately, I didn’t argue back, just turned my head aside and let the silence envelop us both.

Early morning the next day.

News came from the ICU that Doris’s condition was stable, and she had been moved to the general ward.

I quickly walked over with the nurse, and through the bed’s railing, I saw my daughter’s small body lying there.

Her hair had been shaved due to the surgery, and was still wrapped in gauze.

My heart hurt like it was pierced by needles, and Timothy Xavier looked at his daughter with even more pain, wishing he could take on this suffering for her.

Doris had just woken up, her eyes still a bit dazed.

After a while of clarity, she pouted her lips and started searching for Serena.

"Daddy, where’s Mommy? I want Mommy..."

Timothy Xavier immediately approached, gently holding her small hand, casting an unobtrusive glance at me.

Then he coaxed gently, "Doris, Mommy is still busy with work in the film crew and can’t make it. For the next few days, Daddy and Auntie Ellison will take care of you, okay?"

Doris instantly cried, "I don’t want Auntie Ellison, I just want my Mommy!"

I stood where I was, my heart feeling heavy, making it hard to breathe.

Clearly, I’m her biological mother, yet I can only stand on the side, listen to her call someone else "Mommy."

At this moment, Jack Sullivan walked in, saying Timothy Xavier needed to go to the traffic police station to handle Doris’s car accident from yesterday.

Timothy Xavier told me, "You stay with Doris, I’ll be back as soon as possible."

As he passed me, he whispered, "If she asks for her Mommy, try to shift her attention with something she’s interested in."

Timothy Xavier left, leaving just Doris and me in the ward.

I slowly walked to the bedside, looking deeply at her face, pondering how to tell her, how to make her accept the fact that I am her mother.

Doris’s innocent gaze was filled with unfamiliarity, not acknowledging me, just turning her head toward the window.

This coldness, keeping others at a distance, copied Timothy Xavier to perfection.

In the ward, the only sound was the dripping of the IV.

Not knowing how long had passed, suddenly Serena Sawyer’s voice came from the door, "Doris!"

I quickly turned around, seeing Serena Sawyer hastily walking in, followed by a sullen-faced Sophia Kendall.

Clearly, Sophia Kendall had brought her here.

Doris’s little face lit up upon hearing the voice, "Mommy!"

Serena Sawyer quickly came forward, deliberately nudging me aside to sit by the bed, seemingly very concerned as she said, "My dear, it’s all Mommy’s fault for being too busy with work, not taking good care of you, making you suffer so much. Does it still hurt?"

Sophia Kendall followed in, grabbed my arm, and pulled me out into the corridor.

She sneered, her tone full of sarcasm, "See that? Doris was raised by Serena hand-in-hand, in her heart she only acknowledges Serena and Timothy. Who are you?"

I said, "Who am I? You should ask your son! What good deeds has he done!"

Sophia Kendall sized me up and down, saying, "If you really like children, be sensible and divorce Timothy. Find an average man, have as many kids as you want, no one’s stopping you! Do you know why Timothy took this child away from you back then? Because he thought you were not fit to be his child’s mother!"

Actually, no matter what Timothy Xavier thinks, it’s no longer important to me.

Yet her shameless words still made me tremble with anger.

At this moment, Serena Sawyer came out of the ward, crying, "Miss Ellison, Mom already told me everything on the way, I didn’t expect Doris to be your daughter. But now, in Doris’s heart, I am her Mommy, can you be generous and not disturb Doris’s peaceful life? Could you not cause her discomfort? I beg you!"

A surge of anger rushed to my head, I raised my hand and slapped her.

Serena Sawyer held her face, a hint of malice flashed in her eyes, but she continued to cover her face and play the weak, "Miss Ellison, if hitting me can calm you down, can make you let Doris go, then hit me! I’ll do anything for Doris!"

At this moment, a youthful voice filled with anger came from the door, "You bad woman, you’re bullying my Mommy again!"

I turned incredulously towards the direction of the voice.

Doris was standing barefoot at the door, crying out loud.

Serena Sawyer immediately went over, instead of hurriedly taking Doris back to the ward, she squatted down and embraced her, staging a scene of mother-daughter affection.

"Doris, Mommy is fine! For you, Mommy is willing to suffer any grievance!"

Doris hugged Serena Sawyer back, angrily saying, "Mommy, when Daddy comes back, I want him to make her leave! I don’t want you to cry, I don’t want you to suffer!"

I stood there, my feet feeling as heavy as lead, unable to move.

The cold wind seeped in through the cracks in the hallway windows, but I didn’t feel cold, only the deep-rooted pain slowly gnawed through my insides.

At this moment, Timothy Xavier returned.

Seeing the situation, he frowned and asked, "What happened?"

Serena Sawyer, upon seeing him, remained kneeling at the spot, holding the barefoot Doris and sobbing uncontrollably.

Sophia Kendall hurried to complain, "Timothy, open your eyes and look, Serena has been bullied by Zoe Ellison like this! She hit you and didn’t stop, and now she hit Serena! Doris just woke up, and she caused a huge commotion, is she fit to be Doris’s biological mother?"

Timothy Xavier’s cold gaze swept over me, he didn’t say anything, and went directly to Doris, picking her up and taking her back to the ward.

Serena Sawyer quickly stood up to follow.

In the ward, Doris was also complaining to Daddy.

"Daddy, drive that bad woman away, never let her appear before us again, okay?"

The little girl sniffled, saying, "She hit my Mommy, bullied my Mommy! Mommy is so pitiful!"

Serena Sawyer wiped her tears and said, "Baby, Mommy’s fine, with you as my thoughtful little jacket, it doesn’t matter how much hardship Mommy goes through."

Timothy Xavier held Doris’s cold little feet in his hands and warmed them, saying with concern, "Who allowed you to come down? Daddy will handle adult matters. Doris just needs to focus on getting better, understood?"

Watching Timothy Xavier’s every move, I suddenly felt relieved.

If I’m not there, he can still take good care of Doris, right?

No matter if he’s a qualified husband, as a father, he’s beyond reproach.

No matter what Serena Sawyer’s intentions are, all these years, Doris has grown up healthy. As long as Timothy Xavier is there, Doris shouldn’t suffer any grievances in the future.

I took one last look at the little girl cherished in Timothy Xavier’s hands, said nothing more, and quietly left the hospital.

I don’t want anything anymore, I just want to stay far away from Timothy Xavier, never to meet again.
