Building a Safe Zone with My Harem In The Post-Apocalyptic World-Chapter 110: Husband Material
Inside, there were only Kanna and Summer in the small living room.
Summer was doing her best to calm Oliver, holding him carefully in her arms while trying to shush him, but the baby only cried louder the longer she tried.
Meanwhile, Kanna simply watched with a small amused smile, clearly not bothered by the noise at all.
"Calm down," Kanna said lightly, "it doesn’t mean he hates you."
Summer frowned, her grip tightening just a little. "Bu-but... he keeps crying whenever I carry him."
"He’s just not used to being touched by anyone other than his parents yet," Kanna replied, reaching out and gently taking Oliver from her.
The moment the baby was back in her arms, his cries softened almost immediately.
Summer let out a long sigh as she watched that. "Do you think I can be a good mother one day?"
Gideon, who had just stepped in, paused when he heard that and quietly took a step back, deciding not to interrupt.
"Are you worried because you couldn’t calm Oliver?" Kanna asked.
"Well, not only that," Summer admitted, sitting down on the sofa. "I don’t know anything. I don’t even know how to use those homemade diapers. They’re great, by the way... they can hold a lot."
Kanna chuckled softly. "Thank you. But you don’t have to worry too much. Even now, I still don’t know if I’m a good mother. But I do know my husband will be a good father, and that’s why I agreed to this."
"Really? That Kilian?" Summer crossed her arms. "He’s never serious."
Then she paused before adding more quietly, "But... I think you’re a good mother. You’re capable, calm, and you know what you’re doing."
Kanna shook her head slightly. "Children are actually scared of me."
As she spoke, she unbuttoned her shirt and guided Oliver to feed, her movements calm and practiced.
"I never liked children," she continued, "but I love my son, and that feeling just... comes naturally. You won’t really know if you’ll be a good mother until you have one."
She glanced at Summer. "And as long as you have a good husband, you’ll be fine. My mother used to say a wife’s happiness depends on her husband. If you end up with the wrong one, your life turns miserable. So choose carefully."
"Of course he’s the best!" Summer blurted out before quickly covering her mouth.
Kanna narrowed her eyes slightly. "I won’t tell your mother... but honestly, getting pregnant before marriage isn’t exactly a good look."
"Shut up, this isn’t the 90s," Summer muttered, clearly embarrassed. "It doesn’t matter as long as he’s responsible."
"Sure," Kanna said with a small nod. "I trust your judgment. You’re old enough to decide."
There was something about Kanna’s calm, almost indifferent attitude that made it easy for Summer to open up, like nothing she said would be judged too harshly.
Summer gently placed a hand over her stomach. It was still flat. But it wouldn’t stay that way for long.
Watching Kanna with Oliver stirred something in her, a quiet impatience growing inside her chest.
"Hmm... if you’re a girl, you have to be as beautiful as me," she murmured, smiling to herself. "And if you’re a boy, you’ll look like him."
Kanna let out a soft laugh. "I just hope they’re a bit smarter than you... and, of course, healthy."
"Fine, that too!"
The girls were laughing, their voices light and warm, and it was enough to make Gideon smile as he stepped out from the shadow and approached them.
"What are you two talking about?" he asked.
"You’ve been here for a while. I think you already know," Kanna answered directly, pulling a cloth over her chest and the baby without any sign of embarrassment.
Summer’s face flushed immediately. "Ugh, you peeping tom!"
"What? I came here to tell you I’ll be heading to Climber Rift for a while," Gideon said with a shrug before adding with a grin, "and for the record, I’m a good man. Definitely husband material."
Kanna let out a quiet laugh and shook her head, choosing not to comment, while Summer only pouted in response.
"Hmph. We’ll see how good you are when you actually have a baby," she said, crossing her arms.
"Even my dad left my mom when I was born. He said it was too much to handle. Kilian is already gone now, so I just hope he doesn’t disappear too."
Both Gideon and Kanna froze for a second, clearly caught off guard. It wasn’t just what she said, but how casually she said it, as if that kind of thing was normal.
"Summer," Gideon said gently, his tone more serious now, "I would never leave you. And Kilian wouldn’t leave Kanna either. He’s overwhelmed, sure, but that’s all it is."
Kanna nodded quickly. "What your father did was awful and irresponsible. People should not do that to their partner and it is not something people would do either. Your mother should have left him a long time ago."
"Don’t say that..." Summer muttered, looking down slightly. "He’s still my father. He was always busy with work, but... I don’t think he’s that bad."
Then she turned to Gideon, her expression softening in a way that made it clear what she wanted.
He sat beside her without hesitation, and she immediately took his hand, leaning into him as she hid her face against his arm.
"But I know you’re better," she said quietly. "You’d be a better lover... and a better husband... and a better dad."
Her ears turned red as she spoke. Summer rarely showed affection so openly, but lately she had been clinging to him more than usual, even more than Freya, and it was... endearing.
’Maybe it’s because of the pregnancy,’ Gideon thought.
"Of course I am," he replied with a grin. "I’m the best at everything. I’d never leave you like that, and I’d take care of all my children."
"Ugh, get a room," Kanna muttered, rolling her eyes. "My baby needs his sunlight. You two can continue this at Climber Rift."
She carefully placed Oliver into the stroller Kilian had made himself, then pulled back the curtains to let the morning light fill the room before positioning the stroller where the sunlight reached him.
Summer stood up, still glancing at her. "Are you sure you’ll be okay alone?"
Kanna nodded. "I’m not alone. My husband is here, and Elaine will probably be back soon. You don’t need to worry."
"Alright, we’ll get going. Take care," Gideon said as he walked toward the door with Summer.
She followed beside him, and he took her hand naturally, both of them sharing a quiet smile.
"You know," Gideon said casually as they walked, "we can’t have sex in early pregnancy, so you’ll need to be patient."
"Why are you suddenly brought up with that topic?"
He sighed, "You are so adorable... sometimes it’s hard to decide if you want to have sex or just want a little kiss."
Summer was stunned and laughed, "Shut up! Ugh, you know what I want!"
Gideon laughed as they continued walking.
With the way things were going, today was shaping up to be a good day.
