Building a Safe Zone with My Harem In The Post-Apocalyptic World-Chapter 72: A Quite Morning In The Safe Zone
Gideon opened his mouth wide as he yawned. He was exhausted after fighting the S-rank aberrant, yet he had not slept afterward. First, there had been sex with Freya, then later that night he had spent hours with Summer.
At some point, he had started wondering why his body had not collapsed yet.
’Maybe this is what a healthy body is supposed to feel like?’
He honestly did not know anymore. It had been so long since he last felt truly healthy that he had almost forgotten what it was like.
The most likely explanation was the steady increase in his attributes. As he kept leveling up, his stamina must have been rising along with them.
Suddenly, someone poured warm coffee into his empty mug.
"Ah, thanks."
When he looked up, he saw that Delilah had been the one pouring it. She had even prepared breakfast for everyone.
Under normal circumstances, it would have been a peaceful morning. Unfortunately, the living room was currently filled with Freebound men sleeping everywhere. Some lay sprawled across the floor, others on the couch, and one was even stretched out across the table.
His house had basically turned into a homeless shelter.
Gideon could not complain, though. Those same people had helped his residents set up tents and cook food for the survivors.
Originally there had been fifty of the survivors, though about twenty had been injured during the attack. Five had already recovered enough to move into his territory.
Today the Freebound’s members planned to return to the desert and collect the scales and fangs from the Verdant Devourer.
They had split into two working groups. One group had gone out during the night, while the next team, including Gideon, would go later in the day.
After all, those scales and fangs belonged to him in the first place. He needed to supervise the process.
"You really want to go back to the Deliric Desert? I think you should rest," Delilah suddenly said as she sat across from him and took a bite of sautéed rootpod for breakfast.
Honestly, they had been eating that same meat since arriving here. Gideon was already tired of it. It did not taste nearly as good as the first time he had tried it.
Still, there was not much choice. Glowbats kept attacking almost every night and he still had some rootpod tendrils left.
Even yesterday there had been around ten dead ones lying outside. Luckily, no one had questioned why they were dead even though no one had been seen fighting them.
"I’m fine," Gideon replied. "I want to see how they remove the scales and fangs."
"Hm..."
Delilah studied him for several long seconds before speaking again.
"If you don’t trust Jade, I can assure you she’s reliable. She won’t try to take advantage of you."
"What do you mean? It’s not like that. And why are you so confident about her?" he asked.
"I heard your conversation with her at the party yesterday. If Jade were the kind of person who takes advantage of others, then she would have taken advantage of me as well. I would never have friended someone like that."
She sighed and continued eating before murmuring, "And about your power... I think we should talk about that too."
Gideon, however, was more interested in the first part of her statement.
"Oh? So you’re on my side now?"
Delilah’s brows knitted together before she let out a heavy sigh, finally admitting it.
"I am. Which is why I’m giving you this advice." She looked straight at him. "Stop showing off your power so much."
Gideon stopped moving his utensil and looked at her. "Why? Does this have something to do with the lab inside your bunker?"
Delilah shook her head slightly and leaned closer, lowering her voice.
"You know about the ruined government faction? The Order of the West?"
He nodded.
"Good. Their men have been visiting different faction territories recently. No one knows the exact reason yet, but the rumors say they’re searching for the Children of Eden and kidnapping them."
Gideon simply nodded again and continued eating his meat as if it were nothing. Delilah looked completely serious, but he knew he had nothing to do with the Children of Eden. As far as he was concerned, he was safe for now.
His calm reaction only made Delilah more irritated. She suddenly slammed her hand on the table. "Gideon! I’m serious! You’re a leader now. If something happens to you, how is this territory supposed to survive without you?"
Gideon shrugged casually. "Okay, Mom. I’ll be careful."
She slammed the table again. "I’m not your mom!"
"Alright, alright, darling. I understand. I won’t use my power out in the open unless it’s absolutely necessary," he said with a grin.
That only made her groan in frustration.
Of course, Gideon was concerned, but he also knew there were far more urgent matters to deal with first. He needed to build homes for the residents, start agricultural production, establish business with the Freebound, and manage many other things.
Even if the government faction became a problem later, the Safe Zone would grow stronger the more he improved the lives of the people here. The territory would eventually gain its own defenses, both through development and through the families that would grow inside it.
Besides, the Order of the West was still far away. They had not even reached Climber Rift yet, and Jade would never allow them to enter easily.
Based on the newspapers he received from Kanna, Gideon already understood the tense relationship between the Freebound and that government faction.
For now, he was safe.
He would keep leveling up and gaining powers, building defense and even military within his territory, and many more efforts while the government was still far away.
Just as Gideon was finishing his breakfast, Freya walked in.
Her steps were slow and uneven. Her body occasionally jolted as she walked. The moment their eyes met, her cheeks turned bright red. She bit her lip tightly, trying to hold something back.
Gideon smirked. He had not forgotten that the plug was still inside her, keeping his semen from leaking out.
’She should be pregnant by now... though I guess different women take different amounts of time,’ he thought.
"What’s wrong with you, Freya? Do you have a cold?" Delilah asked with concern when Freya sat down beside her.
Freya moved carefully, almost hunched over while holding her stomach as if she were uncomfortable.
"I-I’m fine, Mom! It’s just... yesterday’s accident is still stuck in my head. Hnm!" she said, suddenly flinching as she barely suppressed a sound.
"Huh? What happened?" Gideon raised an eyebrow.
He doubted Delilah had discovered what happened between them in the kitchen. Maybe she had found Freya on the floor afterward and she had told her some excuse.
She quickly shook her head and covered her mouth like she was about to throw up. "It-it’s nothing. I don’t want to remember it."
She slowly stood up again, her body trembling. "Gideon, you’re going to the Deliric Desert, right? Let me come with you."
"Huh? Yeah... after I check on Aria."
"Good. I’ll wait for you outside."
She forced herself to walk faster toward the door, leaving Gideon staring after her in confusion.
He turned to Delilah, hoping for an explanation.
She only shrugged. "Just ask her," she said with a tired sigh.
"That child..."She shook her head.
Now Gideon had no choice but to go find Freya and ask what was going on.
