Building an Empire in Game of Thrones (REWORKED VERSION)-Chapter 92: Downfall of Tywin
Chapter 92 - Downfall of Tywin
2 weeks after the announcement was made, Tywin and his army had made it to Riverrun and begun their siege against the remaining forces of Robb's army. Within the castle resided entire Stark family except for Bran who was in Winterfell still. If not for the Ironborn raids, they would have sent them back to Winterfell to safety.
Behind the walls of the castle, Robb, Eddard, Catelyn, Sansa, Arrya, and the other lords who had survived the battle of Lannisport, sat around a table as a letter was read aloud to the room.
The Shadowhand agent unwrapped the letter and read it aloud, "Due to the volatile situation of the continent, I hereby give the remaining Houses of the continent to submit to me in a month's time. Any refusal will see said House burned to the ground and their lineage erased from history. In addition to this, the Ironborn will stop their raiding of the North, or I will scorch their entire island. Signed Emperor Maximus of the Imperial Union." The room was silent for a few seconds before Edmure was the first to speak.
"The Emperor is asking us to kneel," Edmure said, "But this is different from when he asked the Vale, Reach, and Dorne." Eddard didn't expect something like this to happen. When he first met the Emperor, he thought he was somewhat an honorable man and wouldn't use his empire to conquer everything. Yet from this message, it seemed that Eddard was wrong about him.
"We have no choice; it is either death or kneel before the Emperor." Catelyn looked at her husband and lowered her head.
Robb was fuming with anger. Not only were they besieged by the Lannister Army, but now they were being asked to surrender to the Emperor or else they would be killed. It was a direct threat, and he was sure the rest of the Houses had received this letter as well.
Leaning back in his chair as the others discussed the matter amongst themselves, Robb thought about their current situation. Besides being besieged, they were also being raided by the Ironborn and had lost several castles already. If he refused the Emperor's letter and didn't submit, then his entire family would be killed. He didn't want that to happen, so there was only once choice they could make.
"It seems there is no other choice for us." he stated. The other Lords including his father Eddard, agreed with the decision and they prepared to write a letter and send it back.
Outside of the wall, Tywin Lannister read the letter which had the same message alongside his commanders. After reading it, he ripped it apart while laughing. "These damned Imperials, always demanding something. House Lannister will never kneel so long as I am alive. Let's continue with..." he was interrupted as the soldiers outside began to scream.
"DRAGON!! RUN!!" Was all Tywin heard as they rushed outside to see what was going on. In the skies, they saw a massive dragon flying overhead followed by several smaller dragons.
Meanwhile, on the ground thousands of Mamluk cavalry charged towards the Lannister encampment. Tywin quickly ordered his men to form a shield wall, blocking the Imperials from overwhelming them. Within seconds, the Lannister army despite their fear formed a shield wall.
In the sky, Maximus was on top of Nyxara as they monitored the battle from above. Once he saw the Lannister gathering in a shield wall, Nyxara started descending alongside the Wyvern riders.
Tywin who was now on top of his horse started shouting, "Steady! Steady!"
But once Nyxara opened her mouth, there was nothing they could do. A wave of dark energy had hit the soldiers, disintegrating their very existence entirely. Within seconds, hundreds of soldiers were killed by Nyxara alone. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Maximus used this opportunity and had jumped off of Nyxara's back and fell directly towards the middle of the Lannister army. A few of the Wyvern riders did the same, falling through the sky with him.
As he landed, he wasted no time and started slaughtering the soldiers around him. He moved through the ranks of the Lannister army, dual wielding his swords, Dawnshear and Duskfang. The Lannister soldiers, trained and disciplined though they were, could not stand against Maximus as he cut them down brutally one after another. Beside him, the elite Wyvern riders fought by his side, their blades cutting down those that Maximus didn't kill.
Nyxara continued to scorch the Lannister soldiers with her dark flames, scattering formations and incinerating siege equipment. The morale of the Lannister army quickly collapsed under the Imperial assault.
Spotting Tywin, Maximus carved a direct path toward where he sat on top of his horse. Around him, soldiers shouted warnings and pleas, but no one could halt his advance. Soon, the sight of the infamous Lord Tywin came into view, mounted atop his magnificent steed, rallying his remaining troops in a desperate attempt to resist.
Tywin locked eyes with maximus as he shouted orders. "Stand your ground!" he roared defiantly, unsheathing his blade.
Maximus smirked as his face displayed a predatory gaze. He charged forward, blades raised, as their weapons clashed against each other. Tywin's horse had rose up on its two back legs, but this didn't stop Maximus as he simply kicked the horse causing it to fall to it's side with Tywin on it. The horse got up after being kicked and ran away leaving Tywin on his own.
The fall didn't hurt him too much, so he got to his feet and raised his sword to face Maximus. "House Lannister will never kneel to foreign conquerors!" He charged with his sword raised high.
Instead of blocking directly, Maximus twisted his body and dodged Tywin's sword while driving his knee into Tywin's stomach and grabbing hold of his sword. Before he could recover, Imperial soldiers surrounded him, blades pointed at his throat. Maximus approached, sheathing Duskfang and holding Tywin's sword in one of his hands.
"House Lannister, once a great house. Now it will be reduced to nothing."
Tywin spat at his feet, defiant even in defeat. "Do your worst, conqueror." one of the soldiers punched him right in his gut causing him to cough up blood.
"Don't kill him just yet." Maximus ordered. "Chain him up and take him to one of the airships." The soldier nodded, acknowledging the order and had carried Tywin away.
Inside Riverrunn, Robb and his council had watched the devastating Imperial attack unfold. Maximus walked up to the gates with his army behind him. "What is your answer, Lord Stark?"
"We yield," Robb announced clearly. "Under the condition that you protect the North from the Ironborn raids and retake the castles that haven been taken by them."
Maximus raised a brow. "You are quite mistaken Lord Stark. The North or any other House doesn't make demands from me." he replied. Robb bald his fists up, frustrated at this outcome.
"But, considering our previous relationship, and since I've already warned the Iron Islands, I will offer my assistance to the North in return for your loyalty." Robb nodded as he walked towards the gate with the other lords. Once the gate opened, Robb walked out and got on one knee in front of Maximus followed by the rest of the Lords.
A few lords refused to kneel, thinking more about their lineage and honor than their life. That's when Nyxara landed directly behind Maximus, stepping on the dead corpses of Lannister soldiers. She brought her head directly over Maximus's head and gazed at the soldiers. Those who refused to kneel, found their legs give in and a few seconds later, everybody was kneeling.
"We pledge ourselves to you, your excellency." Robb and the other lords pledged their allegiance and loyalty to Maximus.
"Rise, Lord Stark." Maximus reached out his hand and helped Robb up. "From this point forward, you will be the Imperial Governor of the Province of the North. It is a title similar to the Warden of the North, only changed and upgraded with several more benefits. In time you will learn more about what this new title entails, but for now you and your army will rest for this war is finally over!" raising his sword, the Imperial army followed by the combined North and Riverlord army had cheered.
To the soldiers, the Imperial Union taking over was not something that they much cared about. At the end of the day, they had families to return to, and they had been fighting for a little over a year now. So, if all it took was the Imperial Union to take over, then so be it.
With Tywin Lannister captured and his army defeated, Maximus left the army he brought with him and returned to Storm's End. He had a dozen dragon riders split off and headed North to start hunting down the Ironborn who had raided and occupied any Northern land.
He already knew that by applying pressure, the North would kneel to him. However, he also knew how stubborn Tywin was and knew he would never kneel. So, he decided to eliminate two birds with one stone by securing Northern loyalty and getting rid of Tywin who was the head of House Lannister.

At Castle Black, Eonwe was looking in the Courtyard as the men of the nights watch were trained. Standing next to him was one person who had caught his interests. Samwell Tarly, a fairly big fellow, but he was smart. Next to him was Maester Aemon who looked down to see how lively the Castle was. Various things that were either broken or just frozen were now being fixed.
Then there were these strange heating things that brought some heat to the Castle. Even if you were standing outside, you could feel how warm it was compared to before.
At other castles, the same thing was happening as hundreds of soldiers garrisoned the castles. Patrols were sent on both sides of the wall to monitor for any Wildlings trying to climb the wall.
Meanwhile, at New Valhalla, the Vikings were fighting against the Ice-river clans and Thenns who decided to hunt down those who decided to flee to the city instead of fighting against the Night's Watch. They were chased all the way to the surrounding lands of New Valhalla when they encountered a Viking patrol. The Viking patrol was severely outnumbered and as a result was overwhelmed by the Wildlings. But they managed to buy time for the people fleeing to reach New Valhalla.
After learning about this, Viking Commander Erik had sent out 1,000 Vikings who slaughtered the Ice-river clans and Thenns down to the last men. Based off of this, he declared that the Wildlings were now an enemy which made anybody fleeing towards the city now suspicious. This made it extremely hard for those trying to flee to be accepted as they had to be closely monitored.
