Building The First Adventurer Guild In Another World-Chapter 248: Let The Registration Begin
Inside the Guild Hall, the air still held a faint scent of fresh wood and plaster. Sunlight poured in through the wide windows, illuminating the polished floor and casting long shadows across the tables scattered throughout the space.
The layout mirrored that of the main Guild in Greyvale: a long, sturdy counter stretched along the left side of the entrance, with neatly arranged chairs behind it. Shelves and cabinets lined the wall behind the counter in an orderly fashion.
Across the hall, wooden tables and chairs were set up for adventurers to sit, drink, chat, and debate missions. At the far end stood a large Mission Board firmly mounted against the wall, currently empty but ready to display requests and contracts.
Boren paused just inside the entrance, hands on his hips, taking in his surroundings with a satisfied grin on his round face. His cheeks lifted proudly as he nodded to himself.
"It’s exactly the same," he muttered as he stepped further inside. "Same layout as Greyvale. Same structure, just cheaper materials."
He ran a hand along the edge of the counter, testing its smoothness. It felt solid but wasn’t crafted from rare timber like its counterpart in Greyvale; even so, everything was clean and functional.
Valeria walked past him without saying a word. She moved around to pull out one of the chairs at the far end and sat down with her usual calm demeanor, crossing one leg over another and closing her eyes as if resting.
But anyone who knew her well understood she was listening intently to every sound in the room.
The small group of warriors who had followed Boren into the hall stood near its center, their eyes darting around with excitement and eagerness, like men who had been waiting for an opportunity that had finally arrived.
One of them stepped forward, clearing his throat. "So... when does registration start?" he asked eagerly while others leaned in closer.
Boren straightened himself and smiled warmly. "Line up in front of the counter," he instructed calmly while gesturing toward it.
The warriors quickly complied, forming a loose line with their boots scraping softly against the floor.
Boren turned around and walked behind the counter. He gently placed a leather-bound book atop its surface before flipping it open to a marked page. His eyes scanned through instructions once more; he had adhered closely to everything so far and wasn’t about to make any mistakes now.
"Cabinet on the far right," he murmured to himself while reading carefully.
He approached that cabinet at extreme right end, it looked no different from any other: plain wood with simple handles, nothing unusual there.
But when he opened it up, what lay inside made him freeze.
The cabinet was filled neatly: Adventurer ID cards stacked inside were blank yet prepared; leather-bound ledgers awaited use; small metal badges bore their Guild emblem; ink bottles sat ready alongside registration forms, even official stamps were present.
Boren’s eyes widened, and for a moment, he forgot to breathe. Valeria, who had been sitting with her eyes closed, sensed the sudden shift in the atmosphere and slowly opened them. She turned her head slightly and saw the expression on Boren’s face.
"What is it?" she asked quietly.
Boren didn’t respond right away; he just stared into the cabinet. Valeria stood up from her chair and walked over to him, her footsteps silent. When she reached the counter and peered inside, her brows furrowed slightly.
Everything they needed was already there.
"How did they get in there?" she asked calmly, though a faint edge crept into her voice.
Boren slowly regained his composure. "I... I don’t know," he admitted, swallowing hard. "The boss told me to just build the Guild. He said I didn’t have to worry about mission dockets, badges, ID cards, or ledgers."
He glanced down at the book again, flipping a page to confirm its contents. The instructions were clear: build the branch and forget about everything else.
Valeria stared at the cabinet for a long moment as her mind raced. For three days straight, she had guarded this place while the workers left. Hidden in the shadows of Ashford Quarter at night, she had watched every corner, rooftop, and alleyway, hunting down any suspicious figures that ventured too close.
That’s why she returned home each evening covered in blood; she ensured no one entered without permission.
And she was certain of one thing: no one had come inside.
Yet here were the materials, neatly arranged and prepared.
With trembling hands, Boren reached out and picked up one of the ID cards. It felt real, the material was right; even the engraving space was ready for a name and rank.
He swallowed again. "Now this is creepy," he muttered under his breath.
Despite having seen many strange things in his life, this felt different. There were no broken locks or signs of forced entry, no indication that anyone had touched that cabinet before him.
A chill ran down Valeria’s spine. As a 6-Star Grandmaster Knight, she had faced monsters, warlords, assassins; she had stood on battlefields soaked red with blood. But this? This was something else entirely, something unseen.
She frowned slightly as her sharp eyes scanned the cabinet once more as if it might reveal some hidden trick.
"It’s him," she said quietly.
Boren turned toward her in surprise.
"That greedy bastard," Valeria continued with disdain. "He’s both mysterious and creepy at once, I really want to smash his head open."
Boren paled instantly and waved his hands nervously. "Let’s not talk about smashing our boss’s head open," he said quickly. "While he is mysterious, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this situation... Maybe it’s just one of his arrangements."
Valeria shot him a cold glance. "Arrangements that just appear out of nowhere?"
Boren scratched his head, anxiety creeping in. "Maybe he had someone deliver them quietly."
"I was here," Valeria replied flatly.
That effectively ended the discussion.
They stood in silence for a few moments, both staring at the cabinet filled with official Guild materials.
Finally, Boren took a deep breath and forced himself to relax. "How about this," he suggested cautiously. "When the boss wakes up, we can ask him about it."
Valeria met his gaze for a moment before nodding once. "Fine."
Boren felt a wave of relief wash over him at her agreement. The last thing he wanted was for Valeria to act on her suspicions by taking out her frustrations on Sage when he regained consciousness.
He quickly started pulling materials from the cabinet, stacking ledgers neatly on the counter and arranging ID cards and badges in an orderly fashion. The warriors waiting in line watched with growing impatience and curiosity.
One of them leaned forward slightly. "Is everything ready?" he asked.
Boren turned to face them, masking his earlier shock with a cheerful smile. "Of course! We’re the Adventurer Guild, do you think we’d open without being prepared?"
The warriors chuckled lightly, blissfully unaware of the strange exchange that had just occurred.
Valeria returned to her seat at the far end of the counter, observing everything carefully. Her eyes no longer held their previous chill, but they were still far from relaxed.
Dipping a pen into ink, Boren opened the first ledger.
"Name," he said to the first warrior in line.
The man straightened proudly and clearly stated his name.
"My name is Roran..Roran Hawksley."
Boren began writing, his hand steady now as he recorded all necessary details according to the format outlined in the leather-bound book. After noting down everything required, he picked up one of the metal badges and placed it on the counter.
"From this moment," he announced calmly, "you are officially registered under the Riverdale Adventurer Guild Branch."
The warrior’s face lit up with excitement.
Behind him, others shifted eagerly in anticipation.
What had been an empty hall just moments ago suddenly buzzed with life.
Valeria watched quietly as her crimson hair danced slightly in the breeze flowing through the open doors. Outside, more people were gathering, peeking inside and whispering among themselves.
Boren continued writing names and handing out badges with a broad smile on his face.
"Let registration begin!" he declared loudly enough for everyone in the hall to hear.
