Burning The House Of Cards: taking revenge on my billionaire family-Chapter 118 - 117. Buying Gasoline
Chapter 118: Chapter 117. Buying Gasoline
After feeling how lacking her stamina was—compared to the wild puppy attached to her, anyway—Sarah immediately turned two rooms in the annex into her personal gym.
Of course, with the family’s money. She wouldn’t take any of the equipment away once she moved anyway.
Not only for her, it was for Hajin too, which stirred even more envy from the other security guards. They did have a dedicated gym and training room in the staff’s building, but they had to share. Hajin could use the gym all by himself, even while he wasn’t helping Sarah with her training. He wasn’t much of a gloater, but the stares coming toward the annex while the short construction and the installation were happening were pretty exhilarating.
Watching Sarah exercise, however, was even more exhilarating. It was truly a view, when she was stretching on top of her yoga mat before going through her cardio regimen. It was relieving knowing she didn’t do this in a public gym.
Phew. He was but a man after all.
Sarah didn’t just exercise, however. She also continued her self-defense training--now under Hajin’s guide. The puppy loved it because his master had a tendency to be too reckless--like spying a den of mountain bandits all by herself--and he had an excuse to be more...physical with her outside the bed.
But the puppy’s favorite time was after everything was over, and Sarah lay on the floor with heavy breathing but also a satisfied smile on her face. She looked more at ease after exercising, perhaps because it made her feel like she was doing something.
Of course, they had been doing a lot of things for her revenge. But what they had done wasn’t very tangible. Amassing money and gathering investigation was nothing more than gathering firewood, it wouldn’t bring much satisfaction unless she could see the fire starting. Besides, most of the legwork was done by others.
It made her feel like she wasn’t doing anything, just telling people to do this and do that. Made her restless, as if she became complacent and lazy on her path of revenge.
While training her body had no direct correlation to the revenge itself, her tired body told her she was doing something. Revenge required stamina, and when she thought about her last moment, running through the warehouse while men with guns chased after her...
Not that she would experience it again, but it gave her some kind of reassurance that if something similar were to happen, she wouldn’t be as helpless.
Although...before anyone could think of doing anything to her, they would have to go through her bodyguard first. A wild, excellent breed of mad dog.
When there was no one around, however, that guard dog turned into a puppy.
"Master, may I ask something?" Hajin asked while poking Sarah’s arm. He was not tired at all, but he liked lying down beside Sarah to stare at the ceiling.
Like a puppy.
"Unless you’re going to ask me about which toys I prefer again," Sarah replied sharply.
Ever since they returned from the club, the naughty puppy had been probing her about stuff that would make things spicier in bed. He even explained what they did like an excited salesman, until Sarah looked at him with narrowed eyes and asked him who he was playing those toys with.
He clammed up after that. Rather adorable, actually.
"You’re no fun, Master."
"Don’t act cheeky."
Hajin laughed and rolled to his side, brushing the matted hair over his master’s forehead so she wouldn’t feel uncomfortable while resting. "Why did you talk about business in the club? Do you really want to join?"
"Yes."
"Why?" Hajin tilted his head. "Didn’t you say we should fail the project?"
"This is my way to fail the project."
Hajin got up and sat down with crossed legs, looking at Sarah with pursed lips. "Master, your puppy is not that clever, you know."
Sarah laughed and held her hand for a water bottle before answering. "The way to fail the project is quite easy; I can just withhold the land deeds until they make a fake one and sue them in court," she explained. "Or we can always try to find out the real reason behind the citizens’ rejection."
"Uh-huh," Hajin nodded while handing the water bottle to Sarah.
"But that alone won’t be enough," Sarah continued while getting up so she could drink. "Henry’s company can just sever their contract with Daesung and look for another collaborator. Or they can just use the power of money to handle it and start another project."
"But what does your joining the project have to do with failing it?" freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"I’m going to offer a large amount of investment," Sarah curled her lips. "With collateral."
"Huh..."
"If you want to fail a project, my dear puppy, you should sever their financial power," Sarah lightly shook the water bottle, watching the waves appear on the surface like a turbulent sea. "And what if I’m not the only investor? What if all of the investors demand collateral for their investment?"
Then once the project was deemed to fail, or they passed the timeframe to start the project, they had to pay the contract penalty. Depending on how much they had to pay...it might even lead to bankruptcy.
"Would they grant it?" Hajin asked skeptically.
"Would they reject one of the most powerful men in the country?"
Hajin tilted his head, wondering who Sarah was talking about. It came to him a bit late since he wasn’t there when the agreement was made. "Oh..."
"I don’t want to just fail them, J," Sarah smiled deeply, eyes gleaming coldly. "I want to destroy them."
At that moment, Sarah looked like the incarnation of Nemesis herself. Indeed, she was his goddess. The grey eyes fell to the whip coiling on her exposed shoulder and upper arm, and Hajin took a deep breath as his heart beat a bit faster.
"Master..."
"Mm?"
"You look so hot right now," Hajin said with a dazed expression, which was returned to normal by Sarah’s slap.
"Shut up--" Sarah hissed just as her phone vibrated on the side.
Hajin laughed while fetching the phone, but when he glanced at the screen, his brow arched. "Huh?"
He handed the phone to Sarah, who looked at her screen curiously. There was only one new notification, which came from her older sister. A simple announcement.
[I’m going to tell Father soon]
"Look at this?" Sarah arched her brow just like Hajin. "Seems like the first flint had been lit."
"Well, well..."
"Then I should prepare the gasoline," Sarah said with a hum, lying down again using Hajin’s thigh as a pillow while she went through her contact list.
She didn’t know if it was going to be picked up right away since the recipient was a busy man, but to her surprise, she only had to wait for ten seconds.
[If it isn’t Miss Diamond] the Chairman of Mirae greeted her lightly.
"You too, Sir?" Sarah rolled her eyes. Yonghwa must have called her that when telling him about her. "Anyway, I’d like to draw the blank cheques."
A sound of glass tapping could be heard from the other side. [Cheques? Plural?]
Yonghwa did ask him to give Sarah a birthday gift, but they never said anything about the amount. Sarah replied without missing a bit--she couldn’t afford to sound hesitant. "I’d like two."
[Just in time before your investor return, huh?] Kang Jun replied, and Sarah glanced at the window. Indeed, the summer was ending and Yonghwa would return soon. [Let’s hear it]
"I’d like you to invest in a project," Sarah shot right away. "It doesn’t have to be you, Daniel can do it--in fact, I think it’ll be better if it’s Daniel."
Hajin narrowed his eyes, but Sarah was patting his knees while making the call. Was that why she lay on his thigh? To appease him because she wanted to involve Hajin’s source of insecurity?
[Since you said it’s a blank cheque, does it mean I won’t be seeing the money back] Kang Jun muttered.
"You will, although I’m not sure it’ll come fully," Sarah shrugged. "Perhaps not all cash either--assets and whatnot."
It was rather vague, but Kang Jun didn’t become a chairman just because he was born with a diamond spoon. [How amusing] he laughed, already guessing what Sarah meant. [And the second one?]
Sarah smiled even deeper than before. "I’d like you to hold an art exhibition."
Hajin raised his brow in curiosity, and Kang Jun probably did too. [That’s random] he remarked.
"Make it an exhibition to showcase unknown artists ot those who are still struggling to establish their name, who reside abroad but are of our nationality," Sarah explained further. "Please invite them here too, not just their creations. I’m going to give a few names to make it easier."
"Ah..." Hajin let out a soft exclamation as he started to understand.
Indeed, it was gasoline.
[I really have no idea what you are planning] Kang Jun, on the other hand, had no idea. Still, he chuckled in amusement, probably thinking it was fun. [Tell you what--you tell me why in detail, and I’ll give you a team and the funds to make it. Just tell them what you want to do yourself]
"That’ll work," Sarah nodded.
[Let’s meet somewhere] another sound of tapping. [Do you play golf?]
Sarah almost groaned. "Do chairmen always play golf?"
[Evidently] Kang Jun laughed.
"Very well," Sarah chuckled in resignation, and put a little bit of magic sprinkle on her closing. "See you soon, Oppa."
[So you can act cute!] Kang Jun laughed even harder before ending the call.
Sarah hummed in satisfaction after successfully ordering two gallons of gasoline. When she put the phone back on the floor, she realized Hajin was staring at her quietly with a sulky face.
"What?"
"Can’t you call me that too, Princess?" Hajin pursed his lips.
"What?" Sarah tilted her head. "You want me to call you with something I only use to curry favor with?"
"...yes," Hajin replied after thinking about it for merely two seconds.
Sarah scoffed while getting up. "Have some dignity, Ryu Hajin."
"What use is dignity in front of you?" Hajin grumbled, both for the rejection and the end of his role as a pillow.
Sarah had to admit that a sulky puppy was indeed cute. She started to understand why Yonghwa liked to edge his lover.
"Good puppy who behaves well gets the reward, remember?" Sarah flicked the man’s forehead.
"I have been behaving well," Hajin argued, almost looking like a child who couldn’t get his dream toy.
"You’ve been hounding me with sex toys for days," Sarah shrugged. "You’ve exhausted all of your brownie points."
Hajin blinked before groaning against the gym’s floor. "Argh!"
Sarah laughed and left her lamenting puppy behind. That would make him stop going on and on about sex toys, for sure.
