Cannon Fodder in an Era Drama — I Survive with Acting-Chapter 170: Who Do You Think You Are?
When she opened her eyes again, the first thing she saw was her sister’s face, cold as frost, and Wang Kang sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, a smug look plastered across his face.
Song Qingya’s gaze swept over her sister’s entire body. She saw that her clothes were torn to shreds, her collar ripped, and one sleeve was dangling from her arm.
Even more jarring was the purple bruise on her face and the dried blood at the corner of her mouth.
She glared at Wang Kang, her voice low.
"What happened? Did you touch her?"
Wang Kang feigned surprise, a frivolous smile spreading across his face.
He squinted, looking Song Chenglu up and down as if inspecting merchandise. A grin split his face, revealing a set of yellow teeth.
"Miss Song, your sister here, with that look and that body... she’s got some real kick to her."
His tone was vulgar and his gaze was lecherous, enough to make one sick.
"How about this? Leave her here with me. She can be my wife, live in luxury, and I’ll guarantee she’ll enjoy a good life. What do you say?"
He said it as if he were bestowing a great blessing, completely ignoring Song Chenglu, who was trembling in fear.
Song Qingya’s stomach churned, and a wave of nausea rose in her throat.
She fought back the urge to rush forward and tear him to shreds, her nails digging so deep into her palms that they nearly drew blood.
Song Chenglu was terrified. Tears burst from her eyes and streamed endlessly down her cheeks.
Suddenly, she dropped to her knees with a THUD and clung tightly to Song Qingya’s leg, her voice trembling so much she could barely form words.
"Sis! Sis! Save me! I don’t want to stay here! I’d rather die than marry him!"
This only made Wang Kang even more smug. His grin widened, and his eyes filled with mockery and contempt.
He picked up an ornate pipe from beside him and tapped it lightly against the tip of his shoe.
Then, he raised the pipe and pointed it in Song Chenglu’s direction, a gesture both flippant and insulting.
"Well, well, isn’t this the one who’s always around Fei Village Chief? What, you think you can push your luck and become the main lady? Who the hell do you think you are? Got a death wish?"
The derisive words were like a sharp spike, stabbing cruelly into Song Chenglu’s heart.
She bit her lip so hard it nearly bled, her jaw clenched tight, unable to utter a single word.
She frantically raised her head, her gaze desperately seeking out her sister, Song Qingya, who stood beside her. Her eyes were filled with terror and a plea for help.
Song Qingya looked at her wretched sister and felt a surge of irritation.
’She was tempted to just throw this girl to Wang Kang and let him deal with her. It would save her the trouble of taking her back, only to cause more problems and force her to clean up the mess again.’
"Wang Kang, cut the filthy thoughts! I’m taking my sister with me today."
She strode forward, shielding Song Chenglu behind her, her gaze as sharp as a knife. "Even if something did happen to her, she would die at the Shen Family’s doorstep!"
She would rather let the Shen Family deal with it themselves than allow an outsider to lay a hand on her.
Having been publicly humiliated, Wang Kang’s face instantly darkened.
He was the local tyrant of this area; when had anyone ever dared to contradict him to his face like this?
He sneered, his voice thick with threat. "Song Qingya, don’t be shameless when I’m trying to be nice! Do you know where you are? This is Jing City!"
He took a menacing step forward, his tone growing more aggressive. "Think you can just come and go as you please? You really think you’re somebody special? Trying to take Fei Jin’s woman away, and with empty hands at that?"
He scoffed and glanced around, as if showing off his authority. "Let me tell you, not even God Almighty himself could get away with that! Around here, I’m the one who calls the shots!"
The moment he finished speaking, he roared to the men outside, "Everyone get in here! Surround them!"
The next moment, a crowd of men surged through the doorway. They were all burly and thuggish-looking, armed with thick wooden clubs, iron chains, machetes, and some even carried fireplace tongs.
They rushed into the room, looking fierce and menacing, and quickly formed a semicircle, trapping Song Qingya and Song Chenglu within.
The air seemed to freeze. A murderous aura filled the room, making it hard to breathe.
Just then, a cold voice rang out from behind them, carrying an undeniable authority. "Wang Kang, you’d best reconsider who you’re dealing with."
It was Fei Jin.
He had appeared at the doorway at some point, tall and imposing. The long black robe he wore only accentuated his stern and cold demeanor.
His tone was devoid of any warmth, as if he were discussing something that had nothing to do with him. "My woman speaking to you nicely was her honoring you."
He paused for a moment, a sarcastic curve playing on his lips. "If this were the old days, you’d have been thrown in the river to feed the fish long ago."
Hearing this, Song Qingya couldn’t help but let the corner of her mouth twitch into a slight smile.
’This man, when it came to protecting his own, he truly feared no one, not even daring to go head-to-head with the local bully.’
She relaxed her tense shoulders slightly, but her eyes remained vigilant, scanning her surroundings. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
When Wang Kang heard this, cold sweat broke out on his back, and his legs began to tremble uncontrollably.
He had, of course, heard of Fei Jin’s ruthless methods and knew that the power behind him was not something he could easily provoke.
But if he backed down now, in front of so many of his men, how could he maintain his standing in this territory?
So, he forced himself to lift his head, his voice trembling slightly, yet he tried to act calm. "Song Qingya, don’t you forget where this is! This is Jing City! No matter how tough you are, can you be tougher than all the men on my turf?"
"Tougher than you?"
She said no more. She pulled Song Chenglu behind her and whispered a warning, "Stay put. Don’t move."
Although Song Chenglu’s legs were weak with fear, she knew she couldn’t cause any more trouble now.
She nodded forcefully, not daring to look around or make another sound.
Song Qingya slowly raised her eyes, looked calmly at Fei Jin, and said just two words: "Get him."
The words had barely left her lips when Fei Jin lunged forward like an enraged beast breaking out of its cage. Swift as lightning, he pounced.
Wang Kang had no time to react before a powerful hand clamped down on his wrist. Excruciating pain shot from his arm straight to his head, as if he were locked in an icy iron vise, leaving him no room to struggle.
Fei Jin suddenly tightened his grip, the force nearly enough to crush Wang Kang’s wrist bone.
The pain instantly contorted Wang Kang’s features, and his entire body trembled like a dry leaf in the autumn wind.
"AGH! Let go! Let go of me!"
He started howling like a stuck pig, his voice shrill and piercing. "What are you all gawking at?! Move! Get out of the way!"
Seeing the situation take a nosedive, Wang Kang’s face changed instantly. Enduring the intense pain, he roared madly at his men, "Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear what I said? All of you, back the fuck off! Get lost!"
His men exchanged glances. Some wanted to step forward to help, but seeing Fei Jin’s cold, sharp glare and Wang Kang’s contorted expression, they flinched in fear. No one dared to make a move.
Wang Kang was frantic, wailing in pain as he roared at his men, "Get out! All of you, get out! Do you want to watch me die here?!"
This roar was like a clap of thunder. No one hesitated any longer. His men scattered like birds and beasts, disappearing in the blink of an eye. All that was left was Wang Kang, slumped on the ground, his back soaked with cold sweat.
