Cannon Fodder in an Era Drama — I Survive with Acting-Chapter 80: Legally Married Couple
He then slowly reached out and gently took her soft, delicate little hand.
However, the kiss had just begun; their lips had not even properly met.
Suddenly, a very loud cough came from the doorway.
Fei Jin and Song Qingya immediately turned their heads, only to see several pairs of wide, stunned eyes at the door, staring at them in utter shock.
Among the few people who had entered, Luo Fuman was holding a large pile of colorful fabrics in his left hand,
while his right hand carried several festive-looking gift boxes wrapped in red paper. He was so encumbered he couldn’t even spare a hand to cover his five-year-old daughter Luo Weiwei’s eyes.
His wife, Yang Yingzi, on the other hand, reacted quickly and decisively. The moment she saw the situation, she immediately pulled their young daughter behind her,
afraid the child might see something she shouldn’t.
Yang Yingzi also looked quite awkward. She cleared her throat and spoke with a dry smile on her face:
"Ahem... Uh, Village Chief Fei, Xiao Song... did we come a bit too early? Are we interrupting something private?"
’It’s already ten o’clock!’
’Who would have thought they’d only just woken up and had breakfast!’
Yang Yingzi was seething with frustration, completely exasperated.
She shot Luo Fuman a fierce glare while not forgetting to offer an apologetic smile to Fei Jin and Song Qingya.
Then, she grabbed her troublesome husband and forcibly dragged him a few steps into the courtyard.
"What is wrong with you! Luo Fuman, didn’t you have this all figured out? Didn’t you say Village Chief Fei gets up at five or six every morning? I specifically came at ten to avoid being too early and having people think we were here to freeload a meal... So what is this mess you’ve gotten us into? Our daughter almost saw... that!"
"I didn’t expect Xiao Fei to change so much after getting married either. No, wait, this probably isn’t an issue of Fei Jin being lazy and sleeping in."
"Could it be Qingya? No way, her yard is tidy. She seems like a diligent girl too."
"But our Xiao Fei is a hard worker! Back in the unit, he did everything himself and was very quick and capable. I could never fold my quilt into that perfect, square ’tofu block,’ so I had to ask him to do it for me."
"Oh, and you have the nerve to say that? Village Chief Fei is ten years younger than you. Back then, he was working and managing your schedule. And look at you, you only made it to a deputy position at the supply and marketing co-op."
"I’m not as capable as Xiao Fei, but you can’t compare to Qingya either..."
"Huh? What did you say?"
Luo Fuman’s lips moved, but in the end, he didn’t dare to say the words, "...and you’re not as thoughtful as Qingya."
’Otherwise, I can forget about setting foot in the house tonight. I’ll be kneeling on a washboard outside.’
Luo Weiwei, not yet as tall as her parents’ waists, was eager to jump into the conversation.
She tugged on Yang Yingzi’s sleeve and asked with innocent, blinking eyes, "Dad, Mom, what was the big brother doing to the big sister? Was he kissing her? But Mom, you said boys can’t kiss girls, and girls can’t kiss boys, right?"
"Weiwei, don’t interrupt when adults are talking. Stop cutting in."
"But..."
Luo Fuman quickly covered his daughter’s small mouth and whispered in her ear, "No ’buts’! If your mom gets really angry, the two of us are in for it."
Luo Weiwei hummed in agreement.
Just as things quieted down on their end,
Yang Yingzi suddenly felt that something was off.
She had just spoken casually, but Luo Fuman’s reply had pricked her somewhere deep inside.
Her intuition had always been sharp, especially about subtle things like this.
So, without hesitation, she grabbed Luo Fuman by the ear.
"Luo Fuman, what exactly did you say just now? ’I can’t compare to Qingya’ what? Right? I feel like I’m hearing a subtext here."
Yang Yingzi’s tone was interrogative as she spoke, and she gave his ear a hard twist.
"OW, OW, there’s nothing... We’re guests here. It’s not appropriate to be standing at the door chattering away like this."
Luo Fuman grimaced in pain, struggling and begging for mercy while glancing at the door out of the corner of his eye, trying to create a diversion.
"Let’s hurry inside. If people hear us, they’ll think we have no manners."
"You think you can just get away with this without explaining yourself?"
Yang Yingzi showed no sign of letting go, still clutching his earlobe tightly.
"PAIN, PAIN, PAIN! Honey, let go, please!"
Luo Fuman pleaded, covering his ear and trying to pull away.
"What if Xiao Fei and his wife see this? What will they think?"
"Hmph, what’s there to hide? If you don’t make things clear to me, then I’ll make sure they get a good look!"
Yang Yingzi snorted coldly, put her hands on her hips, and stood there looking completely justified.
The constantly bickering couple continued to pull and tug at each other in front of the door.
One was wailing in pain, covering his ear with a wronged expression, while the other was furious and unrelenting. It was quite a lively scene.
But no one noticed that amidst the clamor, the child had taken the opportunity to sneak quietly through the door.
「In the living room.」
Song Qingya was sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Fei Jin on the sofa.
They were sitting very close.
Fei Jin had an arm gently wrapped around her shoulder, his head lowered as he whispered something softly to her.
And just as this cozy atmosphere reached its peak,
a sudden knock shattered everything.
Immediately after, the sounds of the bickering couple outside erupted.
Song Qingya abruptly pulled away from his embrace, her cheeks flushing crimson. In her panic, she pushed him away, lowered her gaze, and mumbled, "Why didn’t you tell me earlier that Old Luo was coming! I didn’t even have time to wash up and get ready. This is a disaster. They must think we’re a complete joke."
Her voice trailed off.
Normally, in private, Song Qingya could whisper sweet nothings without ever blushing and would tease Fei Jin without a hint of shyness.
But the moment anyone else was around, even acquaintances, she would immediately become shy and timid.
Fei Jin, however, wasn’t bothered. A hint of a smile still lingered in his eyes.
Seeing her flustered state, he gently guided her back to sit on the sofa.
"It’s fine. Old Luo and his wife are simple, honest people. They won’t go around gossiping."
After a pause, he added, his gaze softening with affection.
"Besides, even if they did say something, it’s no big deal. We’re a legally married couple. Isn’t it normal to be a little affectionate in the morning?"
"..."
Song Qingya opened her mouth slightly, momentarily at a loss for a rebuttal.
’It was clearly just a simple good morning kiss to start with.’
’How did it turn into something so embarrassing, as if we were caught doing something sneaky?’
’But... that "I’ll give you a little reward" I said earlier... he didn’t hear that too, did he?’
’If he did, the gentle and quiet image I’ve worked so hard to build would be completely ruined...’
Just as Song Qingya was wondering how to salvage her public persona,
a shadow suddenly fell over her, enveloping her completely.
She looked up and saw that Fei Jin had leaned down and given her a gentle kiss on the lips.
