Chapter 544: +Chapter 544+

"Just a heads up, Lake is going to want to eat this for dinner," Caspian tattled to Davian.

He had joined the Mafia King in the kitchen to learn the recipe while Lake discussed with Asher. Davian might have been the one to make the visit, but Lake still ran the Mafia House, so it was up to the two of them to make plans.

Davian kept a poker face, his mate had been pregnant for twenty-one weeks, and he still hadn’t figured out how to turn him down when he had cravings. "If he wants to, he will." He muttered, "I haven’t figured out a way to stop him yet."

Caspian patted his arm comfortingly, the hulking Mafia King was in a flower-patterned apron, and it suited him. "Can’t say I blame you. Keep blueberries away from Rosie as well." He made sure to tag on.

Katya was notorious for her preferential treatment of Omegas, but it was evident she had a really favorable opinion of Davian. Her face glowed with approval at how quickly he picked up on her recipe.

"She’s already asked for blueberry pie twice," He reported dryly. He could probably turn Rosie down, but she would keep bugging him until he gave in. And he would probably give in far quickly than he should.

"Want me to teach you to make blueberry pie?" Katya chimed in like she could read his thoughts.

Davian sighed, prepping a pan for the fudge. "Might as well."

They ended up being coerced to stay for dinner, which was to Davian’s benefit because Rosie had found out he was learning to make blueberry pie, and if he had been in charge of dinner instead, Rosie and Lake would insist on eating questionable meals for dinner.

With Caspian in charge of dinner, he was spared the trouble. The delicate Omega ran the mansion like the military, making sure everyone ate a balanced meal, even Lake.

"We’ll be coming over for dinner more often," Davian said seriously as they said their goodbyes. As much as he loved cooking for his mate, Lake’s cravings were a little concerning sometimes.

Like on their honeymoon, for the first week after trying out the spicy seafood platter, it was the only thing he asked for, eating it religiously every single day.

"You’re welcome anytime," Caspian beamed at him, pinned right to Asher’s side with the Alpha’s arm around his waist.

Davian turned away and walked over to the car, Lake and Rosie were already inside, and for the first time, he didn’t mind. Not when his mate was curled up in the back seat, fast asleep with his head pillowed on Rosie’s legs.

"Are we coming over for dinner tomorrow?" Rosie asked greedily, listening in on their conversation.

"We’re not," Davian turned down flatly. "What do you say we stop for ice cream?" He then went on to offer, his tone indulgent.

"Yay!" Rosie cheered quietly so she wouldn’t rouse Lake, getting over her disappointment instantly.

Angelo got out of bed after spending most of the night unable to sleep, he walked over to the window and stared up at the night sky. It was sometime after three AM, and even though it was so dark, he could see that it would rain soon.

His black hair was in a braid, his sweater big enough to cover his palms, fingers peeking out.

Angelo wasn’t really staring at anything, it was the first night he couldn’t sleep at all. He toyed with the idea of returning to Nikolai’s penthouse, wondering how Nikolai would take it.

The wind picking up made him return to the bed shortly after, managing to fall asleep this time.

The rain was brief, restless, and in the cover of the dark, early hours of the morning, masked figures in all black noiselessly disarmed the armed guards out in front, shooting them dead.

Their stealth only lasted so far, the second group of guards at the back catching onto their presence. Muffled gunshots rang out in the cold morning, the paved ground still wet from the brief rain.

Silvia woke up violently, deeply ingrained survival skills wrenching her from her deep, restful sleep. She moved quickly, picking up the gun from her bedside drawer and attaching a suppressor.

Suppressors didn’t completely silence the sounds of the shots, and it was what had woken her up, the familiar sound of muffled gunshots. It was enough to get adrenaline pumping, fear mixed in as she ran over to Angelo’s room.

There was no time to stop to think about who would be behind it, she had several enemies, Angelo did as well. Although there was an unspoken treaty about the immunity she had because of the information she held, not everyone upheld it.

So while attacks like these were rare, they weren’t completely impossible. She opened the door gently, sighing silently when she noted that he was still fast asleep.

"They’ve gotten in the house," Cain’s quiet voice came from behind her, in the dim lighting of Angelo’s room, his pale eyes looked feral, otherworldly.

"Stay close," She replied, entering Angelo’s room. If they were in, it meant that the guards situated outside had all been taken out.

She would completely avoid a fight if she could. All her life, it was just her, but now, she had two people she cared about and wanted to protect.

Cain didn’t say it, but the only thing that would wrench him from her side were the cold hands of death. He wore only black silk pajama bottoms, gun in hand as well as he kept an eye on the hallway.

Silvia hastily shook Angelo awake, her hair a whirlwind around her.

Angelo woke up shortly, took one look at her, and got out of bed. "What’s going on?"

"Sorry to bother your sleep," Silvia gave him a smile, "But we have a little bit of trouble..."

Rapid-fire gunshots rang out in the hallway, ominous despite being muffled.

Angelo lifted a brow, "That sounds like more than just a little bit." He noted.

Cain ducked into the room and shut the door behind him. "We might be screwed."

Silvia smiled despite being tense, "Not quite," She reassured, moving quickly.

Living the kind of dangerous life she led, there were always measures put in place. She walked to one of the bookshelves in his room and pulled it open like a door.

Her smile fell off her face when it opened to reveal more masked men. They seemed to have been waiting for her, so it meant that they knew about the false door.
