Chapter 47: Hansel: The morning after.

I stared at the writings on the cave’s roof, trying to read them.

They were written in a strange language, the same strong tongues, I’d seen inscribed on the thighs of a woman who looked like Naya in my dream. In the beginning when My Raze would always wake up in this cave, I would dismiss it as nothing.

But after what happened last night between me and Naya, I was beginning to believe I was more connected to it. I sighed, rubbing my forehead. The only thing I remembered was making love to Naya, thoroughly.

At the thought of that, my body flooded with love.

For the first time during a Crescent Moon, I wasn’t in the forests, roaming around, or going around the pack attacking random people, I’d been able to control my raze and keep it under tight leash.

To think everything happened in less than a day, I was sure that by the time, Naya resumed her position as my master, I would have total control on the Raze and stop losing my memories.

But would she accept it?

The question kept popping in and out of my mind, but I kept pushing it aside, hoping that if I didn’t think about it, there would be no need to worry about it. Since our destinies were crossed, she might have been acting under the moon’s influence.

Now that we’re back to reality, how do I begin to explain to her that I was a symbol of the centuries-old curse of the Ward family, and that she was my fated mate and master, destined to keep me from destruction?

Would she even believe me? I know werewolves have been depicted several times in movies, films, comics, books, etc. Would it be hard to prove to her that we actually existed?

I felt her stir beside me and I stiffened as her hand came up to touch my jaw. She stretched like a cat, groaning in satisfaction as she shifted onto my body, and sighed deeply. From our bond, I could tell she taught I was her ex, Caleb.

"Last night was explosive!" she murmured, already grinding her hips against my rising erection. "That has never happened to us before and I couldn’t help but wonder if you had something or is there anyting you’re celebrating that you don’t want to tell me yet?"

Jealousy flashed through me, but I tried to quell my emotions, especially since I knew she could still feel it. I didn’t want to startle her.

"You’re not saying anything," she said grogilly and lifted her head off my chest, to stare at me. Our eyes met for a few seconds; she registered it was me, alright, but it took her another few minutes for everything to sink in.

When it did, she jumped off my body, scrambling to the coerner of the cave, her eyes wild as they darted around the space taking in the stone walls, the scattered clothes and me lying on the ground.

"You!" she pointed an accusing finger at me. "What have you done this time?"

I didn’t say anything.

She looked around the cave again, her eyes widening with surprise as she took in the environment, then he looked down at herself and her face went white.

"Why am I naked?" she asked horrified.

I sat up slowly, gritting my teeth as pain, the aftermath of every shift with my Raze exploded through my body. "Naya, please...

"Why am I naked?" she shriedked again, trying to cover her body with her hands.

Through our bond, I could feel her panic and confusion and not complete lack of memory last night, it was temporary. It happens with every young wolf who goes through a stage for the first time. Because she was connected to me and human, her memory would be hazy until she’d eventually get everything.

"If you’ll let me explain..." I started, trying to find the gentlest way to tell her what had happened.

"Did you—" she trailed off before cointinuing. "Did you try to sleep with me?"

"Naya, c’mon," I tried again.

"Just fucking answer me, Hansel. It’s a simple question," she yelled. "Did you try to sleep with me?"

"It wasn’t like that. If you’d just—"

"Then what was it like?" her voice was getting louer with each word. "Why are we both naked? Why are we in a cave? Why can’t I remember anything?"

As she spoke, I felt something shift in the bond. The memories were trying to surface. They were trying to break through the barrier her human nature had erected.

I remembered everything with perfect clarity. Her body moving beneath mine and above mine. Her delightful moans as I brought her to the height of pleasure. The way she’d pulled me closer, demanded more, surrendered completely to the moon’s call and the bond between us.

The memories flooded through our connection before I could stop them.

Naya’s words cut off mid-sentence. Her hand flew up to cover her mouth, her eyes went wild.

She was remembering. I could feel it through the bond.

Each moment from last night was flitting through her like a slide. Her touching me, me touching her, the desperation we’d used to pounce on each other. Everything.

Her face flushed bright red, then went pale, then flushed again.

"Oh god," she whispered behind her hand. "Oh god, oh god, oh god."

More memories surfaced. Her climbing onto my lap. Her nails raking down my back. Her crying out my name as she—

She made a slight, mortified sound and buried her face in her hands.

"Naya—" I started to move toward her, wanting to comfort her, but stopped when she flinched back.

That’s when I heard voices outside the cave. Multiple voices. Getting closer.

Damn it.

I grabbed the nearest piece of clothing—her shirt—and tossed it to her. "Cover yourself. Now."

She caught it automatically, still looking dazed and overwhelmed. But instinct kicked in. She yanked the shirt over her head quickly. It fell to mid-thigh on her, long enough to preserve her modesty.

I had just enough time to pull on my torn pants before Elon appeared at the cave entrance.

My brother stopped immediately. His eyes darted between Naya huddled in the corner wearing my shirt, and me standing shirtless in the middle of the cave. His expression didn’t change, but I saw the understanding flash through his eyes.

He knew. Of course he knew. He could probably smell it on us. On the air. The scent of sex.

"Are you fine?" Elon asked carefully. His voice was neutral. But I caught the slight edge of concern underneath.

"I’m fine," I said. My voice came out rougher than I intended.

Elon nodded once. "Good." He glanced at Naya again, then back to me. "I’ll be waiting outside the cave."

He disappeared as quickly as he’d arrived.

Silence fell heavy between us. Naya still had her face partially hidden behind her hands. I could feel her mortification through the bond.

"Was I drunk yesterday?" she finally asked. Her voice was small.

"No."

"Then why can’t I remember properly? Why does everything feel... blurry?"

I moved closer slowly, giving her time to tell me to stop. When she didn’t protest, I crouched down to her level.

"The moon affects humans differently than it affects us," I explained gently. "Especially during the Crescent Full Moon. It’s overwhelming. Sometimes the memories lock themselves away until you’re ready to process them."

"What are you talking about?" She asked quietly. "What moon?"

I took a deep breath, fighting the urge to stroke her cheeks. "It’s a lot to take in, Naya and I wouldn’t want to bore you with a lot of things but last night, during the full moon, you manifested as my Mate and my Master and we might have consummated that bond after all."

She stared at me quietly, I could feel the questions in her head. She was getting more confused than she was getting clarity.

"I’ll explain everything to you when we get pack to the pack house, alright?"

"When can I go back to Luxford city?" she asked suddenly, her voice was tight and filled with several emotions. "I need to check up on my friend Reese. I haven’t spoken to her since the morning of my fake wedding. She must be devasted now, thinking something had happened to me."

"We’ll leave as soon as possible," I said quietly. "I’ll make provisions..."

"How about today?" she cut me short. "Please, Hansel, let me leave today."

"Fine!" I nodded, smiling at her. "Our make the arrangements when we get home okay. For now, you need to rest," I said softly. "When you do, all the memories will come back properly and the confusion will fade."

"I don’t understand any of this."

"You will. I promise you will." I held out my hand. "But right now, we need to leave. People are waiting outside."

She stared at my hand for a long moment. Then, slowly, she placed her smaller hand in mine.

The contact sent warmth through the bond. She felt it too—I saw her eyes widen slightly.

I helped her to her feet and quickly gathered our remaining clothes. She pulled on her muddied jogger pants while I tried to make my torn pants presentable. Neither of us spoke after that.

When we came out from the cave, I wasn’t prepared for what waited outside.

At least twenty people stood in the clearing. Pack members, warriors, three healers with their medicine bags, and Elon, standing at the front of the group with his arms crossed.

Every single one of them dropped into a bow the moment they saw me.

"Alpha," they said in unison.
