Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 34: District 15
He Juan might have teased Mu Yuze about the car, but he was serious in sending the omega to his destination. Fortunately, He Juan had the insight to place a few spare sets of clothes in his trunk and hence, he directly switched out of the soiled clothes and assumed the appearance of a neat gentleman.
After receiving the task, their erections had calmed down considerably. Both of them were adults who prioritized logic, they could perceive the seriousness of the matter. There was a life at stake, intimacy could come after that.
Yuyang District 15.
He Juan’s memory might not be good, yet for some reason, as soon as Captain Li said those words, he was suddenly reminded when Jia Molei came home in an extremely bad mood five months ago. He only spoke after chugging down half a bottle of cold beer. "Those bastards in District 15, see if I will catch them one day!"
Even though Jia Molei was always scowling 24/7 and seemed to be in a perpetual bad mood as though the whole world owed him a million dollars, he was actually very patient and understanding deep down. Otherwise, he would not have advanced so fast in his career to be the senior attending surgeon in the biggest hospital in Yuyang City. He had dealt with countless patients everyday and many of them were very unreasonable. Even then, Jia Molei had never lost his temper. Until that day.
"Listen to me, He Juan." He slurred, half-drunk and still sizzling with anger. "Don’t ever step foot in District 15! They’re not humans, I told you! All of them are sick bastards! How dare they do something like that to a fifteen years old teenager and a Beta at that?! There’s no fucking evidence, they said... Ha, that’s utter bullshit!"
Who those bastards were and what kind of thing they had done to the teenager was lost to He Juan because Jia Molei did not look like he wanted to discuss it further. And thus, He Juan could only curb his curiosity in the meantime and accompany the drunk Jia Molei while he sipped on his herbal tea. After that, his bad memory prompted him to forget this little incident.
As it turned out, the brief conversation with Jia Molei must have made quite a great impact for He Juan to recall it timely.
According to what he had just heard from snippets of Mu Yuze and Captain Li’s conversation, it seemed like Miss Zhao was kicked out of her house when she was a teenager and then rescued by a police officer on duty. After that, Miss Zhao went missing for two years and nobody knew where she had gone. As of now, the aforementioned police officer had retired and lived in Yuyang District 15.
"Have you ever been to District 15 before?" He Juan could not help asking. Despite not taking his eyes off the road, he could feel Mu Yuze’s observing gaze on him.
"No," the omega replied. "Have you?"
"I haven’t either."
"You know something." That sounded like a statement rather than a question.
He Juan could not help but chuckle in mirth. He slowly stepped on the brake when the traffic light turned red and only when the car stopped did he turn to find Mu Yuze staring at him intrusively. That gaze of his was so sharp and piercing, it reminded He Juan of the moment when he was first interrogated by Mu Yuze. Unfortunately this time, He Juan was no longer affected by it. How could he, when he had known how soft and alluring Mu Yuze’s eyes looked when he was lost in pleasure?
"I do know a little," he decided to be honest. And then, he shrugged and added. "But I don’t know if it’s related to Miss Zhao’s case or not."
"Tell me."
And He Juan did. There was actually not much he could say because it was only a slip of tongue when Jia Molei was drunk and He Juan knew that Jia Molei wouldn’t have said it otherwise. In the end, He Juan gave an offer to ask Jia Molei because he was the one who knew more about this matter. "I can call him right now and ask about it if you want?"
"No." Mu Yuze answered in an instant, surprising He Juan. "I got this." Then he took out his phone and scrolled through his contacts. He Juan had never seen Mu Yuze pull out his phone before and he could not help but give it a few more glances.
Come to think of it, he had kissed the omega, had sniffed his pheromones, had even been implicated in quite an... ambiguous situation, yet he still had not asked for the aforementioned omega’s phone number! How careless of you, He Juan! How could you court him properly if you neglected something so simple like this?! He Juan could not help but chew himself out. Unfortunately, the light turned green at that moment so He Juan could only withdraw his gaze and focus on the road again. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Mu Yuze talked with someone for five minutes before hanging up. After that, he fell silent.
"Is there something wrong?" He Juan asked worriedly.
"Did the incident happen five months ago?"
He Juan was startled. He straightened up. For some reason, he had a bad feeling about this. "That’s right."
Mu Yuze’s voice was frighteningly flat as he said, "Five months ago, a report came into the local sub bureau that a fifteen years old girl has been sexually assaulted on her way home from school. However, there’s no trace of semen or fingerprints they could use to lock in on the culprit. The victim’s parents also want to withdraw the report." A full second passed before he added quietly, "The girl is still a minor so the final decision lay in her guardian’s hands. There’s nothing more the police can do about it."
He Juan’s grip on the wheel tightened and he let out a heavy sigh. So it was a sexual assault case, no wonder Jia Molei was so angry. He Juan did not study psychology but he had seen many documentaries when he was confined in the hospital and had also heard a lot of stories from Jia Molei and Su Xieren throughout the years.
Sexual assault was a fragile case. On one hand, the culprit has to be brought in front of the law. But on the other hand, the burden would entirely fall on the victim’s shoulders. Not only did they have to face their greatest fear, they also had to prepare psychologically for the reaction of people around them; their family, their friends, their neighbors... The inquisitive looks and the seemingly harmless talks would follow them as they grew up. If it had not destroyed them mentally, then their physique would slowly crumble as well.
Fifteen years old was very young. A vigorous budding flower was forcibly plucked off its soil, leaving it bedraggled on the desolate roadside.
Was it better to fight until justice came to light or... was it better to forget everything had ever happened?
"From what I have heard from you," Mu Yuze added with his tone carefully neutral. "It seems like this is a repeated case if your dearest friend could immediately lock in on the suspect even when the police couldn’t."
He Juan opened his mouth to answer but then, when Mu Yuze’s sentence fully seeped into his mind, he clicked his jaws shut and put on a strange look. "My... ’dearest’ friend?"
Why did it seem like something was wrong with that word?
