Carlotta's Daily Report-Chapter 104: Elven Elegy
"Is the Listener you mentioned an early, middle, or peak one?" Carlotta asked.
Hearing Carlotta’s question, everyone looked at her in astonishment, not quite understanding her meaning.
Could it be that only early Listeners can be fought, while middle and peak ones cannot?
But that’s a Listener!
"Be careful," Amelia couldn’t help but whisper.
"Don’t worry, I won’t act recklessly," Carlotta replied to Amelia and then looked at Spencer.
Spencer really didn’t expect Carlotta to be so courageous, and his eyes lit up.
He smiled and said, "Of course, it’s an early Listener. Are you willing to personally duel with an early Listener? A duel with a million contribution points."
Sonia frowned and said, "Don’t go too far, you... if you don’t want to, no one can force you."
The latter part was directed at Carlotta.
Carlotta smiled slightly and said, "I am willing to accept such a duel, as long as the opponent is truly an early listener."
Upon hearing this, the crowd erupted in surprise. The looks directed at Carlotta were filled with incredulity, as no one expected her to be so bold as to agree to such a duel.
A seventh-tier apprentice daring to fight an early Listener? That’s a Listener, a being of another level!
Even the streets outside the association were filled with exclamations, clearly many people were shocked by Carlotta’s bold choice.
Spencer, on the other hand, was overjoyed and quickly said to Sonia, "Ms. Dalsheim, please testify for us, we are willing to duel for a million contribution points."
If it weren’t for the fact that the Shadow Adventure Group could only afford a million contribution points at the moment, he would have wanted to use more contribution points for the duel. He knew very well how substantial the contribution points of Carlotta’s Moonlight Adventure Group were.
Sonia looked at Carlotta with some surprise, "Are you really going to go through with this duel?"
Carlotta nodded.
Seeing this, Sonia no longer tried to dissuade her and agreed to witness the duel.
Carlotta held the Rose Cross, calm and composed, indifferent to the many doubtful gazes.
She really wanted to fight an early Listener, but under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t choose to duel in such a setting with a million contribution points at stake.
The reason she agreed was that the previous ten consecutive battles had somehow touched her, bringing about a certain enlightenment in her heart. She felt that she was not far from becoming an eighth-tier apprentice, but there was still a thin line preventing her from truly stepping into that rank.
Carlotta understood that she needed to continue fighting, and needed a thorough and satisfying battle to help her break through this barrier and truly step into the eighth level.
"Who is my opponent?" Carlotta asked again.
The crowd looked at Carlotta with great astonishment, feeling that she truly was exceptionally bold.
Many even noticed that Carlotta seemed eager, which made some people admire her, thinking that her ability as a seventh-tier apprentice to consecutively defeat ninth-tier apprentices might be due to her immense self-confidence.
Strong belief is enough to forge a true powerhouse!
"It’s me," Spencer stepped forward himself.
The Shadow Adventure Group had three Deputy leaders, and he was the lowest in rank, but even the lowest rank was still a Listener, extremely difficult to deal with.
As Spencer approached, information about him immediately surfaced in Carlotta’s mind.
Recent intelligence provided detailed information about many well-known adventure groups, including their members and strength composition, among which the Shadow Adventure Group was prominently listed. Naturally, Spencer’s brief personal information was also included.
Spencer, trained in Shadow Knight Path, wielded a pair of high-quality alchemical daggers called Dark Soul Daggers, skilled in assassination, not adept in frontal combat, but his fighting style was still elusive and unpredictable.
This kind of additional personal information was relatively brief, but it gave Carlotta satisfactory details.
She pointed her sword at Spencer, her red hair flying, and said, "Let’s begin."
Spencer charged forward immediately.
All the previous events had been extremely frustrating for him, and now that he finally had a chance to redeem himself, he was somewhat impatient.
He moved like a black gust of wind, quickly arriving in front of Carlotta, a dagger in each hand, both of high-quality alchemical make, thrusting heavily towards Carlotta.
Even as a Listener, not everyone could afford alchemical artifacts of wondrous quality, so using high-quality alchemical items was not unusual, and Spencer was using two.
"Bang! Bang!"
Carlotta quickly swung her sword, clashing heavily with the two daggers.
Under the intense impact, she felt she might lose her grip on the Rose Cross and was forced to step back.
She had intended to use the Elven Dance to entangle the two daggers, but the clash caused the Elven Dance to fail, being forcibly shaken apart.
"Indeed, a Listener," Carlotta murmured, her eyes shining.
Hearing Carlotta’s voice, Spencer felt somewhat displeased.
He had attacked with full force, intending to knock Carlotta’s weapon out of her hand and defeat her outright, but he only managed to push her back. Carlotta’s evaluation made him quite uncomfortable.
Immediately, he charged forward again, closing in on Carlotta.
Carlotta also moved her feet, executing the Elven Butterfly Dance, choosing not to clash head-on with Spencer but to truly employ the combat style of the Elven Knight Path.
This knight path was not meant for head-on clashes; it emphasizes grace and elegance, moving like a butterfly among flowers.
Carlotta’s figure swayed, the Sixth Movement Elven Blossom and the Second Movement Elven Phantom Sound both executed simultaneously, sword shadows blooming like flowers before her eyes, the sound of slicing air coming from all directions.
Spencer turned his gaze, finding that he couldn’t discern where Carlotta’s true attack was coming from, as if attacks were coming from all around.
’What a joke? How could a seventh-tier apprentice’s understanding of the Elven Knight path reach such an absurd level? Making even me, a Listener, unable to distinguish the real from the fake?’
Spencer had no choice but to retreat temporarily to avoid Carlotta’s onslaught.
As he withdrew, Carlotta pursued, her attack changing once again, a light similar to the dawn appearing, unmistakably the Third Movement Elven Light.
Just as Spencer thought Carlotta would attack him with the Elven Light, this light slanted upwards, reaching a high point, transforming into a more brilliant light that descended.
Fifth Movement Elven Starfall!
The Elven Light seemed only to speed up the approach of the weapon to execute the subsequent attack.
But just as Spencer prepared to receive the Elven Starfall, his eyes were suddenly filled with only this bright light, and everything else in the world turned dark.
This caused Spencer to change color and retreat again.
The seventh movement, Elven Moon Devourer!
Such an attack had also been integrated by Carlotta, allowing multiple movements to bloom simultaneously.
Sonia almost stood up from her seat. Was this a skill that a seventh-tier apprentice could display?
Spencer was fast, retreating again and again, ultimately causing all of Carlotta’s attacks to miss.
Even so, the hall of the association was dead silent, with many adventurers dumbfounded at the sight.
A seventh-tier apprentice continuously attacking, actually forcing a Listener to withdraw repeatedly, unable to get close?
Is this really a seventh-tier apprentice?
"Are you really a Listener?"
Carlotta looked at Spencer, who was more than ten meters away, tilting her head as she asked.
Spencer’s expression was extremely poor.
As the surrounding adventurers looked at him with strange eyes, he felt his face burning. A Listener retreating in the face of a seventh-tier apprentice was indeed somewhat embarrassing.
And Carlotta’s words make his face alternate between green and white.
’I need to get serious. I can’t underestimate her just because she’s a seventh-tier apprentice. Trying to defeat her head-on was never my strong suit.’
Spencer took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
Then, with a gust of wind, his figure disappeared from the field.
He was gone?
This change made Carlotta wary as well, cautiously looking around, but she couldn’t tell where Spencer was hiding.
The Shadow Knight Path allows one to become a shadow, disappearing without a trace. The external effect was invisibility, but in reality, Spencer was still around, like a hidden viper, ready to strike.
Carlotta took a deep breath, gripping her Rose Cross tightly, trying to sense any movement around her.
Suddenly, she noticed that the wind on her left seemed to have grown more urgent, and she decisively swung her sword in that direction.
"Bang!"
Sparks flew as Spencer’s figure appeared, thrusting his dagger towards her, clashing with the Rose Cross.
Spencer’s eyes showed surprise, not expecting Carlotta to detect him like that. He quickly withdrew and disappeared again.
This time, he didn’t stay hidden for long, silently appearing behind Carlotta, thrusting his dagger with a sharp, gleaming attack.
Carlotta turned and swung her sword, clashing with Spencer once more, then pressed forward, segueing him.
But Spencer was too fast, disappearing again in a flash.
’Listeners are still a bit tricky to deal with.’
Carlotta thought to herself.
Apprentices and Listeners were on two different levels, with a significant gap between them.
This time, Spencer reappeared almost immediately, again behind Carlotta, his attack still fierce, the dagger’s edge bringing a chill as it approached.
"Bang!"
Carlotta quickly turned, colliding heavily with Spencer, their weapons clashing and sending sparks flying.
Spencer will attack once and disappear, then reappear from another position, attacking again before vanishing once more.
He chose a cautious approach, extremely serious, as if he wasn’t facing a seventh-tier apprentice.
This fighting style made many people look on with strange expressions, suddenly surprised. An Listener being so serious against a seventh-tier apprentice was like treating a life-and-death enemy, which was hard not to be surprised by.
Spencer’s attacks were like a storm, violent and overwhelming, forcing Carlotta into a passive defense, unable to mount an effective counterattack.
Because he was truly elusive, hard to lock onto, naturally putting her at a disadvantage.
However, every time Spencer attacked, Carlotta could still detect traces of his movements, which gave her some peace of mind.
She could confirm that, as a seventh-tier apprentice, she could indeed contend with a Listener, though defeating him wouldn’t be easy.
But what if she wasn’t just a seventh-tier apprentice?
A faint realization began to surface in Carlotta’s mind. The details of the Elven Knight skills kept appearing in her thoughts, from the first movement, Elven Butterfly Dance, to the seventh, Elven Moon Devourer. All sorts of wondrous attack techniques were evolving in her mind.
Her body began to move with the changes in her mind, starting from the Elven Butterfly Dance, continuously swinging the Rose Cross, unleashing various attacks into the air.
This made it impossible for Spencer to get close, as charging in would mean running into Carlotta’s sword, causing trouble.
But Spencer wasn’t in a hurry. Hidden in the shadows, he watched silently, a cold glint in his eyes.
He thought Carlotta might be flustered, unable to cope with him, and her current actions were just a panicked reaction to prevent him from attacking again.
’A seventh-tier apprentice with this level of strength is truly impressive, but an apprentice is still an apprentice. How dare she challenge a Listener? Losing 100, 000 contribution points, we can earn back a million, a great harvest indeed.’
Hidden in the shadows, Spencer couldn’t help but smile, feeling confident of victory. Carlotta, who had lost her composure, couldn’t possibly be his match.
Just as he thought this, his ears twitched slightly, faintly heard a sorrowful sound, as if someone was recounting a sad past, so moving that it made his nose tingle.
Where was this sound coming from?
Spencer wanted to ignore it, to focus on Carlotta, but the sound became clearer, the moving sobs made his eyes moist.
The next moment, he realized where it was coming from, his eyes fixed on Carlotta.
At this moment, Carlotta seemed to be dancing, waving her Rose Cross, her movements beautiful yet with a strange sense of fragmentation, making anyone who watched feel a pang of heartbreak.
"This is..." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Amelia seemed to have noticed something.
Many around showed strange expressions, hearing the sorrowful sound, but they didn’t feel any sadness, as this inexplicable power wasn’t affecting them.
Only Spencer, even in his invisible state, couldn’t avoid it, as this was an area attack. Unless he blended into the crowd, he would be within its range.
He felt a growing sadness in his heart, an unbearable feeling welling up, his nose tingling, tears uncontrollably streaming down his face.
The eighth movement, Elven Elegy!
