Chapter 110: Chapter 108: I Lost Her

"What do you mean I have to keep her company just because she’s here? I have nothing to do with her now!"

Her eyes were filled with suspicion. He tugged at his tie in frustration.

"You don’t believe me? If I wanted to be with her, I would have gotten back with her three years ago. Why would I wait until now?"

She gave him a look that said, ’Why should I believe you?’ He glared at her, his handsome brows knitting into a tight line. After pacing a circle with his hands in his pockets, he spun around and suddenly exploded with anger.

"Naomi Shaw, do you think you’re completely blameless for how things have turned out between us?"

She froze, and he continued to shout, losing control.

"You’d rather listen to Juliet Jennings’s one-sided story than believe me! You’re always trying to guess what I’m thinking, always assuming you know everything! You wouldn’t listen to my explanation three years ago, and you still won’t listen now!"

He accused her so harshly that Naomi Shaw’s own anger flared, but beneath it lay a deeper sense of grievance. Tears welled up in her eyes against her will, and she raised a hand to wipe them away.

"Julian Donovan, if you hadn’t repeatedly told me that you didn’t love me and could never love me, if you hadn’t hurt me time and time again, why would my love have been so timid and insecure? Why would I have been forced to secretly guess your thoughts, too afraid to ask you directly?"

After they both finished shouting, they fell into silence. Finally, she looked away.

"I’m sorry, I have to go pick up Joy. I’m leaving."

Julian Donovan glared at her retreating back, then angrily got into his car and sped off. They parted on bad terms. Naomi Shaw went to the kindergarten to pick up Joy and went home alone. Meanwhile, Julian Donovan called Juliet Jennings, and after finding out her location, he drove there, his face cold.

Juliet Jennings was staying at a hotel. He parked and went straight to her room. Juliet, her face alight with joy, came to open the door for him. He stood at the entrance, staring coldly at her.

"Juliet Jennings, let me make this clear one last time: I may have loved you once, but I don’t love you anymore. Even if I don’t end up with her, I could never be with you again. So, from now on, please don’t show up in front of her and say things you shouldn’t!"

His heartlessness deeply wounded Juliet Jennings, whose face had been filled with anticipation.

"Julian, how could you do this to me? Don’t you know how I’ve felt about you all these years? Back then, I was with you without any official status. When you said you wouldn’t get a divorce, I didn’t pressure you. I just want to be by your side again. I don’t care about anything else. Why won’t you give me a chance!"

"It’s impossible between us. I think I’ve made myself clear enough!"

Julian Donovan’s expression was indifferent, his tone icy.

"I want to be with her now, not out of guilt, nor because she’s Dylan’s mother, but because I love her!" It was as if all the strength had been drained from Juliet Jennings’s body. She leaned weakly against the door, gazing at him in despair. ’Finally. He finally said it. He finally admitted he loves that woman.’

In truth, he had started loving that woman three years ago; he just hadn’t been able to see his own heart clearly. Juliet, on the other hand, had used this, along with his slight guilt toward her, to create misunderstandings between him and Naomi. They had finally divorced, just as she wished, and that woman had even died in an accident, yet he still wouldn’t spare her a single glance.

There was nothing more cruel than a man who once loved you declaring his love for another woman.

"She was by my side for six years, and I always thought I didn’t love her. But after she was suddenly gone, I realized just how much I couldn’t live without her. Maybe this realization came too late, but now that she’s alive, I won’t miss my chance with her again!"

After speaking, Julian Donovan turned to leave. He took a few steps, then stopped and looked back at Juliet Jennings.

"Don’t force me to get physical with a woman. So, don’t let me see or hear of you going to her again!"

Naomi Shaw’s trust in him was already at zero; she couldn’t withstand this kind of provocation from Juliet Jennings.

Juliet Jennings watched his retreating back with a look of desperate, shrill despair, pleading with him to stay.

"Julian—"

He didn’t pause for a moment. His figure grew smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared into the elevator. Thinking back to his courtship in college, to how well he had treated her over the years, Juliet Jennings stumbled back into her room, losing control, and grabbed her phone.

Her fingers, their nails painted a crimson red, slid across the screen, finally stopping on Wendy Lowe’s name. After composing herself, she dialed the number and spoke in a coquettish tone.

"Mr. Lowe, long time no see!"

"Juliet?"

Wendy Lowe was surprised she would call him. The two hadn’t had any contact since they conspired to assassinate Naomi Shaw. Juliet Jennings didn’t contact Wendy Lowe because she was afraid he would bring up the compromising photos. Wendy Lowe didn’t contact her because he felt she no longer had any use, since Julian Donovan hadn’t gotten together with Juliet after his divorce from Naomi.

Juliet Jennings didn’t waste any time with pleasantries and got straight to the point.

"I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Julian Donovan’s ex-wife isn’t actually dead."

She wasn’t stupid enough to go after Naomi Shaw herself. She knew that Wendy Lowe and Julian Donovan were like fire and water, which was why she was telling him this. Wendy Lowe, who made his living from drugs, had been cornered by Julian Donovan for years. Later, she heard he had made a comeback with the help of a mysterious figure and had sworn to take Julian down. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Not dead?"

Wendy Lowe was clearly stunned by this news. She let out a cold laugh.

"Not dead, and living quite well, in fact. Julian Donovan is desperately trying to win her back, treating her like a precious treasure!"

Wendy Lowe was silent for a moment on the other end of the line, then let out a sinister laugh.

"Juliet, you’re becoming more and more thoughtful. It’s just that I’m accompanying my boss on a business trip right now. When I get back, I’ll think about how to deal with that bastard Julian Donovan!"

"Mr. Lowe, I’m giving you such a useful piece of information. You’d better not let it go to waste!"

Juliet Jennings added more fuel to the fire. If Wendy Lowe took action and was discovered by Julian Donovan, given Julian’s temper and how much he valued Naomi Shaw now, he would surely kill Wendy Lowe for touching her.

Then she could just sit back and reap the rewards. She could use Julian Donovan’s hand to get rid of Wendy Lowe. And why not? He was holding those compromising photos of her. As long as he was around, she could never rest easy.

Wendy Lowe sneered.

"Julian Donovan has made my life hell these past few years. If I don’t give him a taste of his own medicine, how can I keep my reputation in the underworld!"

Wendy Lowe hung up as soon as he finished speaking. Juliet Jennings clutched her phone, a triumphant smile playing on her lips. But a moment later, she threw herself onto the large bed in agony, crying silently. ’Why! Why has my life turned out like this? I hate Wendy Lowe, I hate Julian Donovan, I hate Naomi Shaw, I hate everyone who has hurt me, everyone who has forced me down this path of no return!’

After they parted on bad terms following their argument outside the hospital that day, Julian Donovan hadn’t appeared again. Naomi Shaw’s life returned to its previous state of peace and tranquility. ’This is the life I want,’ she thought. ’Please forgive me for being a coward, but after being hurt once, I don’t dare to touch love again. And as for the love he speaks of, I feel completely incapable of handling it.’

’So, this is for the best. It’s better this way, for us to live on this earth peacefully, without disturbing each other.’

Early Saturday morning, she took Joy to the orphanage. The thought that Willow Summers would be bringing Dylan to the orphanage today put her in a good mood. She had originally chosen to volunteer at the orphanage partly because she genuinely wanted to help these poor children, and partly to atone for her sins by doing good deeds—to atone for the sin of abandoning Dylan.

Sean Donovan’s driver dropped her and Joy off at the orphanage and then left. After getting Joy settled, Naomi began to get busy. She was mainly responsible for the children’s education and daily life, such as tutoring them with their homework or providing them with counseling. Willow Summers was in charge of recreation, which included teaching the children to sing, dance, or play games.

Willow Summers hadn’t arrived yet today. After checking the children’s homework, Naomi stepped outside, planning to give Willow a call. But when she looked up, she saw Julian Donovan walking in, holding Dylan’s hand. She was about to step forward happily to greet Dylan when she heard Julian call out to Jean Coleman, who was walking out from inside.

"Mom—"

Her feet froze in place. Her expression was one of pure shock as she watched Jean Coleman walk over with a smile to greet him.
