CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 169 - 144: Ruthlessness and Love (Part 2)
Julian finally let go of her and said, "Come in!"
A young nurse came in carrying several food containers, which she set on the table. Before leaving, the nurse gave Naomi Shaw a very curious glance. ’Isn’t that Anna Quinn, the one who came to find Julian Donovan to treat her daughter?’ she wondered. She’d heard from her older brother that this woman was the love of Julian’s life, so she was incredibly curious.
Naomi couldn’t help but take a second look at her. ’Why does she look a little like Felix Draper? I wonder if they’re related.’
Julian noticed her taking a second look at the nurse and was secretly overjoyed. After the nurse left and they started to eat breakfast, Julian showed no interest in his food, instead staring at Naomi nonstop. Naomi, who had been starving and eating heartily, eventually lost her appetite under his intense gaze. She had no choice but to ask, "Why are you staring at me instead of eating?"
Seeing her calm expression, a flicker of disappointment crossed Julian’s eyes. Then, he said in a low voice, "That nurse just now is my personal assistant."
He deliberately stressed the word "personal," but she just gave a nonchalant "Oh..." and went back to eating.
’What was there to tell her about an assistant? Don’t all directors and CEOs have assistants or secretaries?’
Julian leaned in, staring at her intently. "She’s young and pretty, isn’t she?"
’Shouldn’t she be jealous? Even if she wasn’t, she could at least throw a little tantrum or give me a dirty look. That would at least show she cares about me.’
"Mhm..."
She nodded and kept eating. Julian, deflated, finally laid his cards on the table. "Naomi, don’t you think it’s dangerous that I’m surrounded by young nurses, doctors, and all sorts of beautiful women every day? Even though it’s been reported that I have a son, I’m still quite a catch!"
Naomi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’So he was going on about that nurse just to make me jealous? Was all that really necessary?’ If she loved someone, she would choose to trust him with all her heart. Even if he were surrounded by a sea of beautiful women, she would still trust him and not get jealous for no reason.
Trust is the foundation of any relationship, whether it’s love, friendship, or even family.
Thinking this, she said as much to Julian. "If I love someone, I choose to trust them completely. Even if they’re surrounded by beautiful women, I’ll still trust them. I won’t get jealous over nothing."
Then she lowered her head and went back to her meal. Julian was stunned for a moment before the hidden meaning in her words dawned on him. ’She said if she loves someone, she won’t get jealous over nothing... So her being so calm about the nurse means she wasn’t jealous... which must mean she loves me, right?’
Having figured this out, his mood instantly brightened, and his appetite for breakfast returned.
But his good mood didn’t last long. A call from Felix Draper shattered it. Over the phone, Felix said, "Donovan, the three people who abducted Naomi and the others last night... they might be connected to Wendy Lowe. And... and..."
Felix stammered on the other end of the line. Juliet Jennings was also involved—and she was Julian’s first love. It just goes to show you can know a person’s face but not their heart. Who would have thought Superstar Jennings could be so vicious?
"Who else?"
Julian roared, making Naomi, who was still eating, jump in her seat.
"And... Juliet Jennings!"
As Felix spoke her name, Julian’s hand trembled. A flash of shock crossed his face, immediately followed by a surge of deep-seated hatred. This intensified when Felix added, "Our guys were tailing the two of them and overheard their conversation. It seems the assassination attempt on Naomi and Dylan a few years ago... was also connected to Juliet Jennings!"
To say Julian’s expression was grim would be an understatement. Unsure what was wrong, Naomi stopped eating and looked at him with concern. After hanging up with Felix, Julian immediately stood. "I have to go out for a bit. Make sure you eat."
With that, he strode quickly out the door.
’I have to find Juliet Jennings and demand an explanation. If she was really behind what happened a few years ago and last night, I will not spare her. Even though I once loved her, I won’t show her any mercy. The woman I loved was the simple, beautiful Juliet Jennings, not this vicious, cold-blooded monster.’
「Juliet Jennings’s Apartment」
When Juliet Jennings saw that her visitor was Julian, her expression was one of pleasant surprise. "Julian, how did you know I lived here?"
’He hasn’t contacted me in ages, so how could he know where I live? Did he look it up privately? Is he still paying that much attention to me?’
As Juliet deluded herself with these thoughts, she was frozen in the next second by the sight of a dark gun muzzle and the grim look on Julian’s face. Her eyes fell to the weapon pressed against her chest. Her face went deathly pale, and she began to tremble uncontrollably. "Julian, you... what are you doing?"
Julian used the gun to shove Juliet back into the room. A chilling smile played on his lips, and his eyes blazed with murderous intent. "Come now, Juliet. Tell me everything you’ve done over the years. One by one."
Her face ashen, Juliet made one last, futile attempt at denial. "I don’t know what you mean—AHH!"
She hadn’t finished her sentence before a searing pain shot through her arm. She let out a scream and looked down; Julian had actually shot her. Bright red blood gushed from the wound. With another shriek of disbelief and terror, she swayed and collapsed to the floor, her blood staining the white carpet.
She lay prone on the ground, trembling uncontrollably. ’He actually shot me! He really means to kill me!’
Julian didn’t even frown. That bullet was merely payback for the one Arnold had taken for Naomi and Dylan. He looked down at Juliet and sneered, "I’m using a custom gun with a very good silencer. If you dare to lie, the next bullet is going... into your heart."
As he spoke, he aimed the gun at her chest. Pale with pain and her face streaked with tears, Juliet sobbed, "I’ll talk... I’ll tell you everything..."
Only then did Julian lower his weapon in satisfaction. He turned, walked over to the living room sofa, and sat down, watching the wretched Juliet with cold indifference. In that moment, he felt not a shred of pity for her, nor could he find any trace of the love he once held. All he felt now was endless disgust and hatred.
