Chapter 70: Chapter 70: A Bad Feeling (Part 1)

Perhaps it was because Juliet Jennings had always acted so sensible and considerate around him, but her sudden relentlessness now brought a flicker of impatience to Julian Donovan’s brow.

"I’ve already had someone prepare your plane ticket. The flight is this afternoon. Juliet, you’ve never been this clingy!"

Julian Donovan’s words made Juliet Jennings realize she had let her mask slip, but she couldn’t be bothered with that now. She screamed hysterically at his merciless, retreating back.

"I’m not leaving! Julian Donovan, I won’t go! I’m going to stay right here and watch you two get divorced, and only then will I leave..."

Julian Donovan only quickened his pace, growing more impatient. Juliet Jennings’s recent behavior, and the things she’d said about Naomi Shaw, made her seem like a stranger to him.

Lara Nash had been keeping a close eye on Juliet Jennings’s movements. When Juliet didn’t leave that afternoon, Lara arrived that evening with a grand entourage. She had been looking for a way to vent her frustration over her family’s disapproval of her relationship with Ronan Joyce, and Juliet Jennings had just walked right into the line of fire.

Eight bodyguards—powerfully built and fierce-looking in black suits and sunglasses—lined up in a row behind her. Lara Nash plopped down casually in a chair in the hotel lobby’s lounge. The lobby manager, wiping sweat from his brow, hurried over with a smile. Everyone knew of the only daughter of the Gambling King of Qindale. He had no idea what business this young mistress had gracing their hotel with her presence today. The manager shot a timid glance at the eight men in black, a bad feeling welling up inside him.

"Miss Lara Nash, what brings you here?"

Lara Nash ignored him completely and waved a hand at the bodyguards behind her.

"Go to room 8022 and bring Superstar Juliet Jennings to me!"

"Yes, Miss!"

Two bodyguards in black acknowledged the order and started toward the elevators. The lobby manager quickly tried to stop them.

"I’m afraid that’s not appropriate, is it?"

One bodyguard on each side, they lifted the manager and tossed him aside. He cried out in pain as he fell, which made the surrounding staff snicker. Everyone knew that the King of Gamblers’ daughter was actually an easygoing girl. She was kind-hearted, stood up for what was right, and never used her power to bully others. She must have had a good reason for being here today.

Juliet Jennings was in her room, fuming. She wanted to call Julian Donovan again, but she remembered what he’d said as he left—that she wasn’t the clingy type. During the day, she had already nearly ruined her image in his eyes. ’I have to hold back from now on,’ she thought. But she couldn’t stand being given the cold shoulder by him like this.

Her phone buzzed. A photo had come through. It was from the private investigator she’d hired, a picture taken at the hospital of Naomi Shaw and her son. The woman in the photo looked very young, with a serene and lovely face. She was holding a little boy whose features were the spitting image of Julian Donovan’s. The sight made Juliet Jennings grind her teeth in hatred.

Juliet Jennings remembered that this was the same girl who had been with Julian at the Wincastle hotel when they met years ago. ’So they knew each other back then.’ Julian Donovan had never told her anything about his wife, only that he didn’t love her. So, in Juliet’s mind, the person Julian had married must have been a very unlikable woman—either unattractive or much older. She never expected it would be such a young and beautiful girl.

Jealousy twisted her beautiful face. With the compromising photo Wendy Lowe held over her in mind, her finger swiped across the screen, forwarding the picture of Naomi. A moment later, a text from Wendy Lowe came back: *Well done, baby. As promised, I’ve permanently deleted your photo. I’ve slept with so many women, but your skills are still the best. It’s a shame to just delete it like this. If things don’t work out with Julian Donovan, feel free to come back to me anytime, seeing as your skills are so good.*

Juliet Jennings’s face turned green with rage. Her finger swiped again, hitting delete and destroying all the evidence. She swore silently to herself, ’Wendy Lowe, one day I’ll make you pay for everything you’ve done!’

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. She walked over and cautiously peered through the peephole.

"Who is it?"

It was a room service attendant.

"Hello, Miss Jennings. Mr. Donovan has sent a gift for you. Could you please sign for it?"

Hearing that Julian Donovan had sent her a gift, Juliet Jennings beamed and opened the door. ’I knew he couldn’t be so heartless to me,’ she thought.

The moment she opened the door, two burly men stood before her like a wall of steel. Alarmed, she tried to flee back into the room, but they dragged her out. She yelled in a panic.

"What are you doing? Let me go, or I’ll call the police!"

But no one listened to her. The two burly men simply dragged her to the hotel lobby. A young woman was sitting there, with several men in black standing in a neat row behind her. Juliet saw that the woman didn’t look very old and felt a small sense of relief. ’At least it’s not some menacing gangster type.’

With that thought, she stood before the young woman and composed herself.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

Lara Nash waved at one of the bodyguards beside her.

"Come on, sweetie, tell her who I am!"

The bodyguard blushed at being called "sweetie," then immediately resumed his deadpan expression and reported.

"Miss Lara Nash, the beloved only daughter of Qindale’s King of Gamblers, Hector Nash!"

Lara Nash smiled and shook her head.

"Sweetie, you forgot to mention the most important part!"

The big bodyguard blushed again.

"Miss Lara Nash, best friend and confidante of Naomi Shaw, the wife of Julian Donovan, current head of The Shaw Dominion!"

Lara Nash nodded in satisfaction and looked up at Juliet Jennings. Juliet let out a mocking laugh.

"So she’s the one who sent you. What’s the matter? Doesn’t have the guts to come herself? Had to send her best friend instead?"

"Wrong, wrong, wrong! Completely and utterly wrong!"

Lara Nash chuckled, wagging a slender finger.

"Our dear Naomi doesn’t even give a damn about Julian Donovan anymore, so why would she waste a second thought on a mistress like you?"

Juliet Jennings’s face turned ugly at being called a mistress by Lara Nash.

"Who are you calling a mistress? The one Julian Donovan has always loved, from beginning to end, is me!"

That declaration got Lara Nash all fired up.

"Oh, he loves you? If he loves you, why hasn’t he ever touched you? If he loves you, why did he rush all the way back here and spend the whole night making love to our Naomi like his life depended on it? If he loves you, why hasn’t he given you any official status after all these years?"

Juliet Jennings was so stunned she couldn’t say a word. Lara Nash stood up, the smile vanishing from her face as her tone suddenly turned menacingly cold.

"Get the hell out of Thailos by tomorrow. Or else..."

Lara Nash turned to survey the eight muscular men behind her.

"I’ll have you shoot an adult film with my bodyguard ’big brothers’ here. I’m afraid you won’t be a movie star then. You’ll be a porn star!"

"How dare you threaten me!"

Juliet Jennings’s face went pale. She pulled out her phone, intending to call Julian Donovan to come and save her, but Lara Nash just snorted coldly.

"Don’t bother calling Julian Donovan. He’s busy schmoozing over dinner with a few of my brothers right now. He doesn’t have time for you. Besides, even Julian Donovan has to show my father some respect around here. And my father never objects to anything I want to do!"

As Lara Nash said this, a shadow of sadness crossed her mind. ’Except when it comes to me and Ronan Joyce.’

"You... you..."

Juliet Jennings was so furious she was speechless. But seeing the vicious look on Lara Nash’s face and the burly men behind her, she recalled Lara’s threat and didn’t dare to push her luck.

"After tomorrow, I don’t want to see your face around here ever again!"

Thinking about her situation with Ronan Joyce made Lara Nash feel a pang of despair, and her words became even more ruthless. With a dark expression, she turned and left, her massive entourage of bodyguards following behind. Juliet Jennings’s chest heaved with rage, her sharp nails digging fiercely into her palms. She had originally felt a sliver of guilt for sending the photo of Naomi Shaw and her son to Wendy Lowe. Now, not a trace of that guilt remained. She wished Wendy Lowe would destroy them, so that Julian Donovan would belong only to her.
