CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 54: Love Beyond Friendship
"Yeah, I get it."
Summer Lancaster lingered on the line without saying a word.
"Is there anything else?" Dominic Thorne asked.
"Oh... it’s nothing. It’s just... Melody Donovan came to see me a few days ago. You two..." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"I’m very busy. If it’s not important, we can talk another time." Dominic Thorne cut her off, hanging up as soon as he was done speaking.
Summer Lancaster still held the phone to her ear, the dial tone a clear sign that the call had long been disconnected. Lying in bed, Summer was stunned. ’Is this how Dominic Thorne treats Melody Donovan?’
Dominic Thorne didn’t want to be bothered with relationship drama right now, so he simply chose to avoid the subject altogether.
Felix Locke walked into the room and took off his mask.
"How is he?!" Sean Murphy shot up and rushed to Felix Locke’s side, demanding anxiously.
"The surgery was a success, but it’ll be a while before he wakes up. Once he’s conscious, don’t upset him. His condition is highly unstable." Felix Locke’s brow was furrowed. Ronan Jenkins’s gunshot wound was close to his heart. One wrong move and he could have died. If an ordinary doctor had operated on him, his chances would have been slim.
"How did he get shot?" Felix Locke asked. "I don’t understand why he was shot in the back."
Dominic Thorne started to explain, but Sean Murphy interrupted, "He was saving me."
"You two are a real handful!" Felix Locke sighed, turning and walking out of the room.
"I’m going to see Ronan."
"Okay. Let us know if anything changes."
Sean Murphy went to Ronan Jenkins’s room. He looked at Ronan, who was lying on the bed, his face deathly pale. He’d always known how Ronan felt about him but had never returned those feelings. Now that Ronan was like this because of him, Sean was overcome with guilt.
Sean Murphy sat gently on the edge of the bed and placed his hand over Ronan’s, which was pale and cold. "You have to get better quick so you can keep protecting me." ’He used to find him so annoying. Ronan meddled in everything. He’d even track down any girlfriend Sean got at school and make her break up with him. The funny thing was, the girl ended up falling for Ronan instead. But Ronan wasn’t one to be gentle with a woman’s feelings; he rejected her harshly. For a long time after that, Sean ignored Ronan, even deliberately avoiding him.’
’Thinking back, things like that had happened more times than he could count. But every time, after his anger subsided, Sean would be the one to seek Ronan out, and they’d go on playing together as if nothing had happened. That was until Sean realized Ronan’s feelings for him weren’t just simple friendship, but a love that went far beyond it. But they were both guys. That’s why Sean rarely appeared with Ronan anymore. He was deliberately avoiding him, wanting them to just be normal friends.’
At the end of the hallway, Felix Locke was smoking a cigarette. Dominic Thorne walked over and leaned against the wall beside him. "Give me one."
Felix Locke took a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from his jacket pocket and handed them to Dominic Thorne.
"It’s been one disaster after another lately," Dominic Thorne said as he lit the cigarette.
"Are you talking about Kenneth Yates? Don’t worry. That guy’s tough as nails. A helicopter explosion couldn’t kill him, so what’s a pissant like Noel Lynch going to do to him?"
Dominic Thorne blew out a cloud of smoke and tossed the cigarette butt to the ground. "We could have gotten out together that day, but the Boss didn’t leave. I’m worried he went with Noel Lynch for a reason." He was afraid Noel Lynch had found his weakness and was luring him into a trap.
"Then that’s all the more reason not to worry about him. The one we should be worried about is that Lynch punk. When the Boss gets back, I imagine he’ll be the one left howling."
