CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 89: I’ve Always Had Unrequited Feelings
Caleb felt his shirt was soaked. He didn’t know how long she’d been crying, or how she could weep so unrestrainedly. ’Isn’t she happy with Kenneth?’
They were both lost in their own worlds when a familiar voice suddenly cut through the air from nearby. "A romantic rendezvous under the moonlight. How very charming of you two."
Summer looked up at the sound of the voice and felt herself fall into Kenneth’s gaze. It was as if he could see right through her.
His gaze was cold—colder than she had ever seen it.
Summer froze for a moment, then scrambled out of Caleb’s embrace. Barefoot, she jumped down from the rock and started toward him, only to stop several feet away.
"What are you doing here?" Summer said without looking at him. It wasn’t guilt that made her avoid his eyes, but an unwillingness to face him.
"Shouldn’t I have come? Or did I interrupt something?" Kenneth stepped forward and gripped Summer’s chin, his presence menacing.
Seeing this, Caleb strode over and pulled Summer away. "What gives you the right to treat her like that? She wouldn’t be in this state if it weren’t for you!"
"Caleb, stop!" Summer shouted, cutting him off.
Kenneth ignored Summer, turning his full attention to Caleb. He took a step forward, tilting his head back to look at him with contempt. "What right? The right of a husband! And what are you?"
"A man who can’t make her happy has no right to be her husband. Sooner or later, I’m going to take her from you. No, not take—I’ll make her *want* to leave with me." After speaking, Caleb ignored Kenneth and turned to Summer. "Summer, let’s go!" He took her hand, but she pulled it away...
"Caleb, I’m sorry. You should go. I need to talk this out with him. I have to face this sooner or later. We’ll resolve the issues between us, one way or another."
Seeing the determination in her eyes, Caleb didn’t press her. ’This whole farce has to be resolved. Whether it ends as a comedy or a tragedy, it’s time for the curtain to fall.’
"Summer... be careful. Call me if anything happens."
"Mm."
As Caleb passed Kenneth, he deliberately paused for a moment and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Next time!" Then he headed down the mountain. Kenneth didn’t deign to ponder his words; his entire focus was on Summer.
Summer looked at him with a faint smile. "Is there something you want to say to me?"
"Why were you with him?" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Because with him, I can cry without holding anything back," Summer said with a bitter smile.
"You can do that with me, too..."
"And where were you yesterday?" Summer cut him off with a smile, but tears were already streaming uncontrollably down her face.
"Yesterday... I’m sorry. It was my fault." Kenneth lowered his head in guilt. The truth was, he’d regretted leaving but had wanted to give them both a chance to cool down, so he hadn’t come back. ’Though it seems I was the only one who did any cooling down.’
"Hah. I know. I can tell by your expression. Your heart already belongs to someone else, doesn’t it? Is that why you can’t give it to me? Is that why you made up such a ridiculous excuse? Really, you don’t have to. You know I’ve always been the one deluding myself. I don’t mind." Summer turned her back to Kenneth and wiped her tears. ’I must be a complete wreck right now,’ she thought, mocking herself. ’Barefoot, makeup all over my face, hair a mess... a perfect image of the abandoned wife of a wealthy man.’
