CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 91: Because I Love You
"Summer, what are you doing?" Kenneth asked in alarm, trying to back away, but he had no strength.
"I’m bandaging your wound," Summer Lancaster said, wrapping her purple dress around Kenneth’s head.
Kenneth blocked her hand. "What an ugly bandage. Don’t bother, I’m fine." He disdainfully pulled the makeshift "bandage" off and placed it back in Summer’s hands.
"Kenneth, can you please stop fooling around right now? Do you have any idea how worried you’re making me?" Anxious, Summer’s tears began to stream down her cheeks. ’How could he possibly be fine? His head is still bleeding.’
Kenneth was stunned. He quickly raised a hand to wipe her tears away. "Okay, okay! You can wrap it!"
Summer suddenly grabbed his hand, pressing it to her face as she began to sob. "I’m sorry, I’m so sorry..."
"Silly girl. I’ll always protect you, no matter what."
"Really?" Summer lowered his hand, her gaze fixed intently on his eyes.
"Of course." A bitter smile touched Kenneth’s pale face.
Summer knelt beside him and quickly bandaged the wound. The bleeding stopped, but Kenneth’s face grew paler by the second. His speech slowed, and his eyelids grew heavy, threatening to close.
"Kenneth, don’t fall asleep! Where’s your phone?" Summer started to panic. Deep in the mountains, her own phone had died ages ago. He was her only hope. Kenneth pointed to his pocket. Summer scrambled to pull out his phone, but her heart sank when she saw there was no signal.
Summer fell to her knees in despair. "What are we going to do..." she sobbed.
"Sum... Summer... My watch... on the back... there’s... a transmitter... Take it off... activate it... and put it... on your wrist..."
Summer scrambled to her feet, took off his watch, and activated the transmitter. "Why are you making me wear it?!"
"Because... this way... you’re guaranteed to be rescued. And also... I never lied to you... I love you!" Kenneth’s lips had turned completely white, drained of all life.
"I know, I know everything! Just don’t talk right now—save your strength!" Summer cupped his face. It was ice-cold. She was terrified, and she hated herself for getting him involved in this mess.
With a surge of effort, Kenneth lifted his hand and grabbed Summer’s. "You... don’t know... the truth... about why I rejected... your rose back then."
"It doesn’t matter anymore! As long as you’re alive, nothing else matters. Please, stop talking..." she begged, her voice breaking into sobs.
When Dominic Thorne saw that Kenneth’s transmitter had been activated, he immediately raced toward the mountain. That was a device Kenneth hadn’t even used when Noel Lynch captured him. ’They must be in serious danger...’ he thought. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Kenneth’s breathing grew labored and his pulse weaker. He was going limp, but he fought to stay conscious, refusing to pass out.
When Dominic Thorne arrived, the first thing he saw was a pair of high heels, but no one was in sight. He searched the area and finally spotted them at the bottom of a ravine. Without a second thought, he started down to rescue them on his own.
Lying on the ground, Kenneth saw Dominic’s approaching figure and managed a smile. "Dominic’s here... I can sleep now, can’t I?" With that, his eyes squeezed shut...
"Kenneth, who said you could sleep?! Get up!" Summer screamed.
Dominic followed the sound of her voice and quickly reached their side. "Boss, what happened to him?!"
Hearing his voice, Summer grabbed his hand as if it were a lifeline. "Quick! Get him to a hospital! Now!"
Dominic hoisted Kenneth onto his back, but Kenneth’s hand remained tightly clasped around Summer’s. Even unconscious, he wouldn’t let go.
