"Now, let’s get this raid started"

Is what I said, but before I could even gather myself,

Ruuuumbleeee!!!

The entire dungeon shook violently, the blue portal behind me flashing red, With tendrils of mana flaring wildly.

The air grew heavy.

The forest around me shuddered.

Leaves withered in seconds as violent mana flooded the dungeon.

I wasn’t dumb, despite appearances, I was actually well read.

"Dungeon mutation!"..

And as if to confirm my suspicions..

[Ding]..

[Warning!! Mutation Detected!]..

[Threat Level: Unstable]..

[Recommended Rank: D or Above]..

My expression turned grim..

Dungeon mutations, an event that occurred when a dungeon had absorbed too much ambient mana, a particular creature within said dungeon mutated beyond its set evolutionary path, or something triggered it from outside..

It didn’t matter, all that mattered was that it could only be bad news..

The monsters within mutated dungeons didn’t follow any set spawning patterns..

Monsters within dungeons, ranked from F~SSS, like most things in terra, but unlike humans and others with their levels, monsters had grades,

Common..

Uncommon..

Elite..

Boss..

It didn’t need to be said how powerful they were, but my problem was this.

In a normal dungeon, monsters spawn at a rate of 70% common, 20% uncommon, 9% elite, 1% boss, with the boss obviously being the final challenge..

A mutated dungeon flipped that entire script on its head, common grade monsters got tossed out of the equation, uncommon grade monsters become the norm, as for elites and bosses? Their spawn rate increased to as absurd as 35% and 15% respectively, so you can expect to encounter more than one boss grade monster..

Add to that the fact that they’re mutated, which basically meant much stronger than their regular counterparts?

"Yea, fuck me sideways"..

Why? Because of course my protagonist halo would activate..

Before that thought could even settle..

Growl!!!

A gnarly growl snapped me out of my thoughts.

From the clearing ahead, it appeared, a 2 meter tall monstrosity, green skin, bulging muscles and red eyes, perfect telltale signs of mutation..

[MUTATED]<uncommon hobgoblin(E).. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

It’s name hovered menacingly above its head..

It stood there, all gnarly teeth and menace, letting out low growls as it raised its club, charging at me..

Woosh!!

It swung its club, hitting nothing..

I was already gone before it even moved..

<Atmospheric Control(S)> making me nothing but a blur of motion..

I appeared a few meters away from it..

"Hooo..time to test out what this baby can do" I muttered softly, gathering myself..

I wasn’t about to run from a measly hobgoblin..

Never mind the fact that I could probably bully this thing to death with my stats and their effectiveness alone, I had a freaking S rank talent..

"This is definitely going to be fun". I grinned..

Raising my index finger and pointing it at the charging goblin, my thumb pointed upward as I made a shooting gesture..

"Hasta la vista baby" I muttered, ’pulling the trigger’..

Now, in my head, I had envisioned a wind sphere, swirling and condensing, forming something akin to an air bullet, but the moment I fired,

Boooom!!!!

A massive explosion sent me flying back almost ten meters, lodging myself within a massive tree,

"Holy shit!!!"

That wasn’t an air bullet, that was a freaking cannon..

I stared, shocked at the cloud of dust my simple attack caused, <Chaos Healing> Already working to mend whatever I broke during my flight..

"Motherfucker..."

I realized I’d been cursing a lot lately, but honestly it wasn’t my fault, not when you were seeing what I was..

A trench stretched for almost the full ten meters ahead of me..

Everything within its path, nothing, absolutely destroyed..

As for the goblin? Yea, what goblin?

[Ding]

[You have slain: [MUTATED]<uncommon hobgoblin(E), you’ve received 400exp..

[You have slain: mutated creature with a <minor> mutation, you’ve received 200exp...

[Cross tier kill detected, you’ve slain a monster 1-tier higher, exp gain +100%]

[Ding]

[You received 10 free attribute points]

"Sweet" I couldn’t help grinning, leveling up on my first monster? I’m that good..

I couldn’t help calling out my status..

Status..

———————————-

"Nice, maybe this leveling thing isn’t so hard after all"..

I was lying, leveling up, for the average awakened was a nightmare, just this goblin alone was enough to be a nightmare for an average E-rank warrior with a mediocre talent and skills..

"Now, what the hell happened to my shot", ignoring the other’s struggles, I focused on what really mattered, my shot, it wasn’t what I wanted..

Now one might say I was being too much, after all it was my first time using <Atmospheric Control(S)> in combat, but you’d be wrong..

Chaotic Comprehension didn’t just give me the impression of the Atmosphere, no, it gave me the technical know how of the forces that governed atmospheric operations..

So, it couldn’t have been a skill issue, which only meant,

"Chaos energy huh? Figures"

After all, the energy wasn’t only 100x more quantifiable, it was 100x more impactful, so a "wind bullet" with mana calculations at heart ended up becoming a full blown wind canon..

"Well, only one way to find out"

And right on cue..

Growl~~

Growl~~

Growl~~

Three growls sounded out as three more hobgoblins made their way out of the surrounding forests..

"Alright, let’s try this out one more time" saying so, I immediately distanced myself from the charging monsters, raised both my index fingers, mind already envisioning my attack.

Having identified the issue, control came instinctively, definitely the work of Chaotic Comprehension and Adaptation in the background,

"Seems those two abilities are more than they actually let on" thought quietly, watching as the monsters stepped right into my target range..

"Pew pew bitches"..

I let the shots fly.

Wooosh~~

Wooosh~~

Wooosh~~

The sound of the air splitting sounded briefly before,

Puchi!

Puchi!

Puchi!

The sounds of flesh being pierced rang out satisfyingly..

All three hobgoblins’ charging bodies continued their motions for a few moments before collapsing with three dull thuds...

"Man, billy the kid would be proud, heh" I chuckled, casually blowing the nonexistent steam from my fingers, just in time too as

[Ding!]

[You have slain: [MUTATED]<uncommon hobgoblins(E)x3, you’ve received 1200EXP...

[You have slain: mutated creatures with <minor> mutations x3, you’ve received 600EXP...

[Cross tier kills detected, Exp gained +100%(x3)...]

[Ding!]

[You have leveled up x2]

[You have received 20 free attribute points]

"Hooo, nice, at this rate, I’ll be done with the F rank before leaving here"..

I couldn’t help being giddy..

I had a feeling this dungeon that was meant to cull whatever was unlucky enough to find themselves trapped in it was about to become my feeding ground..

"Now, time for the main event" I rubbed my hands excitedly..

Earlier, my "wind bullet" had obliterated any sign of the first goblin, so there was nothing to devour, but now,

"I have three perfect specimens, time to put my ability to true use" i said, moving towards the first corpse..

Don’t get me wrong, being capable of devouring literal air and probably a lot of other broken things is cool and all..

But my simple mind wasn’t all about that, in my head, Devouring often boiled down to one simple thing..

Devour..

Muttering so, I placed my hand on the first goblin, a black miasma like substance covering the whole corpse, and then.

<<DEVOURING....>>

<<SUCCESSFUL....>>

<<Ding>>

<<Energy Converted, 10CE>>

<<You’ve received, 15 strength, 8 agility, 10 endurance, 10 vitality, 0.5(5) Intelligence..>>

<<You’ve received the talent <Enhanced Strength(D)>

<<You’ve received the skill <Rage(D)>>

....

<Enhanced Strength(D)>:

Basic effect:

increases physical strength

improves lifting power

boosts melee damage

......

<Rage(D)>: User enters a rage state..

Effects:

• strength increases

• pain tolerance increases

• defense decreases

• user loses rational thinking

......

Yes.. cold hard stats and everything in between..

To me that was the essence of devouring, taking what was essentially yours, and making it MINE..

"Hehehe, now that’s more like it.."
