Chapter 372: Chapter 372 Resignation

Ava’s POV

I hadn’t been feeling myself lately. Despite the girls’ constant calls trying to get me to join their gathering at Alpha Draven’s pack house, I just couldn’t go. I made up an excuse about having a terrible headache. The last thing I wanted was to bring down everyone’s mood, especially Caroline’s. Being pregnant, she needed peace and positivity around her.

So I spent the evening at home with pizza and my mother’s spell books. Since mastering the tracking spell, my enthusiasm for magic had grown. With Mom away, her magical room was full of treasures to explore. I was still upset with her and Grandmother for going on vacation without telling me, so I hadn’t messaged them either.

I knew isolating myself wasn’t healthy. Dr. Marlowe had encouraged me to open up more, but that was easier said than done.

The only person I felt comfortable around these days was Alpha Kenneth. His companionship and reassurance made our time together pleasant. There was no pressure, no painful history between us.

Lost in my thoughts, my phone rang, and I answered with a smile, already knowing who it was.

"You just can’t stay away from me, can you?" I teased as I answered.

"Ava, my darling! I really can’t. I like you too much, and I miss you," Antonio whined playfully. "Besides, you still owe me that trip to Road Hog, remember?"

"That vintage car diner? You still haven’t been?" I tried to recall the plans we’d made to go together.

"I was supposed to go with this beautiful woman named Ava, but she’s been avoiding me," he said flirtatiously, making me laugh out loud.

"Well, she must be crazy to miss a date with the most handsome man in town," I joked back, causing Antonio to burst into laughter.

"How about this Wednesday?" he suggested.

"Sounds good," I agreed. I missed him too.

"Invite Kenneth along, he seems cool," Antonio suggested, though I could tell he had ulterior motives.

"I’ll have to ask him. He seems pretty busy with work." I replied.

"I’ll pick you up at seven on Wednesday then."

I felt better after saying goodbye to Antonio; he really knew how to make me laugh. Though I wasn’t sure Kenneth would agree to join us. A down-to-earth diner seemed at odds with an Alpha of his status.

I called him, and he answered immediately. "Dear Ava, what can I do for you?"

I smiled and explained Antonio’s invitation. Just then, I got a text from an unknown number. Opening it, I immediately regretted my decision. The text had a photo of that bitch Sophia hanging from Joseph’s neck in what looked like a restaurant. I could see Nate sitting beside him.

I stared at the photo in disbelief. Joseph must have returned from his trip since Nate’s arm was still in a cast from that beating. Joseph had been back and talked to that bitch but hadn’t bothered contacting me. The realization brought tears to my eyes.

Kenneth noticed my choked voice and asked worriedly, "Ava, what’s wrong?"

I wiped my tears. "Nothing. So, will you join Antonio and me for dinner?"

Kenneth said gently, "Of course, as long as you don’t mind hanging out with an old man."

That made me smile a little. "You’d still be the hottest old man in the restaurant."

After hanging up, I stared at Joseph’s photo again. I felt exhausted. Maybe he was right when he left. This back-and-forth was just too painful.

Lost in my sorrow, I answered another call without checking who it was.

"Beautiful Ava," I heard an oily voice from the other end.

"Who is this?" I asked uncertainly, though the voice sounded familiar.

"Darling, have you forgotten me already? It’s Steward Garcia. I want to invite you to dinner, and I won’t take no for an answer."

I wanted to punch that bastard; everything was his fault.

"Listen, just pretend I don’t exist." I hung up and tossed my phone aside. My evening was ruined.

After another sleepless night, I applied heavy makeup to cover my dark circles and headed to work. At reception, someone told me Alpha Draven was waiting in the supervisor’s office. This couldn’t be good. When I reached my floor, everyone was gathered at reception, including investigator Jace.

"What’s happening?" I asked anxiously.

"I should be asking you that, Ava. When were you planning to tell us about your ex threatening you?" Alpha Draven asked seriously.

My legs trembled. Great, just what I needed after my difficult night.

"Guys, I talked to the girls about it. I didn’t think it was necessary to tell you all," I tried to explain.

"Yeah, well, it seems that little club decided to withhold information, Ava. Including the fact that the bastard threatened not just you but Nina as well," Jace said loudly, his eyes filled with hatred. Was he angry with me?

Looking around, I felt like everyone was staring at me with serious expressions, tense and angry. This was definitely a hostile environment.

"Oh, I see." Jace was worried about Nina, and the guys were concerned about the other girls.I understood their frustration, but I felt cornered. "Jace, I’m sorry. I warned Nina about this when you two started dating. I thought she would tell you herself. I’m sorry, but please know I wouldn’t let anything happen to her or any of the other girls." I sighed. If I was the problem, I would remove myself immediately. Maybe I never belonged in this group anyway.

"Really, Ava? And how exactly do you plan to do that?" Jace was furious, which made me feel terrible.

"Enough, Jace!" Nina shouted. "No, enough from all of you! Ava, let’s go get coffee."

I was exhausted, and this morning’s interrogation was the final straw. Maybe my mother was right. I was just a wolfless omega with witch blood that wolves despised. Perhaps I should have left from the beginning.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"You know what, you’re fine," I said, feeling the pressure and hurt. "Nina, thank you, but we’re not getting coffee. Alpha Draven, I’m grateful for the opportunity, but I’m going to submit my resignation. I’ll leave immediately. Keeping my distance would be best for everyone. Don’t worry, though. I’ll make sure Isaac knows I won’t be in contact with any of you anymore."

I stood up and left quickly before I could start crying.

"Oh no, Ava, you get back here!" I heard Jace call out, but I didn’t stop, heading straight for the elevator.

"What the hell was that?" Alpha Draven asked as the elevator doors closed.

I went to HR and submitted my immediate resignation. The process was quick, and they’d give me my final paycheck in two days. I left the building and started crying. Now I was alone; Isaac couldn’t hurt anyone anymore. I took a cab home and asked the doorman to tell any visitors I wasn’t home, then locked myself in.

I didn’t know what to do next. All I knew was I was going to lie in bed and cry all day. I turned off my phone, showered, and collapsed onto my bed.
