Chapter 440 - 440: Dropping Bombshells after Bombshells...
"Your father is a Demon King."
Those words left Rei Ao's lips, striking Lilith Asami like a thunderbolt.
Clang!
Her mind went totally blank.
She just stared at Rei Ao, mouth agape.
"..."
After a long silence, she spoke in a low, raspy voice:
"...Daddy?"
"..."
Rei Ao's expression turned a bit odd. It seemed she'd misunderstood something.
"So you're my father? No wonder I've been feeling all these weird sensations toward you..."
With that thought taking over, Lilith had begun furiously jumping to conclusions in her head. He's my dad?! Her expression shifted to shy frustration.
"Why...? Why is my dad such a lecherous sleazeball?!"
She glared at Rei Ao, accusing him. If he was a stand-in for all that was lustful and indecent, she hated that idea.
Rei Ao cleared his throat.
"Could there be a chance...that I'm not actually your father?"
Though hearing a beautiful girl call him "Daddy" felt strangely satisfying on one level, he needed to clear this up—fast.
"Huh?"
Her eyelashes fluttered, like she'd heard something unbelievable.
"Dad...are you joking, maybe?"
Her eyes held a desperate hope that this was all some twisted prank. Because otherwise she would want to die of embarrassment.
But reality was harsh. Rei Ao just shrugged and spoke plainly:
"Sorry, but I'm definitely not your father. Your father is a Demon King from another world. One part you did get right is that he's the embodiment of Lust, so calling him a 'lecherous sleazeball' isn't entirely off."
"..."
Silence fell again. Lilith turned away and lurched back onto her bed, cocooning herself under the covers. Then:
"Waaaaaah!!!"
A muffled scream came from beneath the blanket. She thrashed around in there, freaking out. She'd just called a total stranger "Daddy." She felt like she'd died of embarrassment. It was the kind of shame that made her want to vanish on the spot.
Rei Ao gave her a few minutes to calm down. Finally, he asked:
"So...do you still want to know about your origins?"
"..."
From under the blanket came a hesitant voice:
"I do. Tell me."
She still wasn't ready to face him, staying firmly bundled under the covers. Rei Ao didn't mind, and patiently explained why her father had "abandoned" her.
Lilith's true name was Lilith A. Azazel. Her father was an otherworldly Demon King known as "Triple Chaos," the Demon King of Lust whose theme was "Nothingness."
He possessed the power to reduce all things to nothing—a concept of death and obliteration. As a Demon King, "Triple Chaos" had a cunning plan to dodge the cycle of his own world's fate: he fathered a child and transferred his "Demon King factor" to her.
Then he sent her away to a different world—this world. His daughter was effectively a living key to connect that other world to this one.
Once he located her again, he could retrieve the Demon King power she carried, thereby regaining his ability to destroy everything.
As for what happened to Lilith in the process, it didn't matter to him in the slightest. From beginning to end, Lilith was just a disposable pawn to help him escape his own world and restore his strength.
"..."
Slowly, Lilith peeked her head out of the blanket. She had never heard any of this. Her eyes were vacant with shock. She'd been nothing more than a tool to her birth father. She felt the deep burn of grief in her chest, to the point it was hard to breathe.
Rei Ao tried to offer some perspective:
"Don't let it tear you apart. He's him, you're you. No point in beating yourself up over a father who never cared."
He wasn't exactly comforting her, just laying out the facts. A father with no emotional attachment didn't deserve her tears.
"If he comes here, what will he do?" she asked, voice trembling.
"He'll probably reclaim the Demon King factor inside you, recover his world-shattering might, and try to destroy the world—or something along those lines."
"..."
Lilith fell silent. After a moment, she looked up at Rei Ao, who stood at the foot of her bed.
"Rei Ao, you're this world's Demon King. You can't just stand by and let that happen, right?"
She prayed he, as a Demon King here, wouldn't permit an invader from another realm. She refused to be the cause of the world's destruction at her unknown father's hands. That would make her hate herself forever.
"I'm afraid you're mistaken again," Rei Ao said calmly. "I'm not the Demon King of this world."
"???"
Lilith felt utterly confused, once more.
"But you clearly—"
She didn't even know how to phrase it anymore. She could see he was a Demon King, standing right there. She'd also glimpsed his three Demon Queen companions.
"I'm from yet another world. I just have no intention of destroying anything here. Makes sense, right?"
"..."
Indeed, that did make sense. Lilith swallowed hard, realizing not every Demon King was a villain itching to raze civilization. Instead, it was her unknown father who was the genuine evil—willing to exploit even his own daughter as a tool.
Her heart grew heavy. Why did I have to have a father like that? She couldn't help wishing her dad had been someone more like Rei Ao. As much of a perverted scoundrel as she considered him to be, at least he didn't treat life like garbage.
But then a new worry gripped her.
"Isn't there some way to stop him?"
"There is," Rei Ao replied.
"..."
She tried to tamp down her frustration, but she still blurted:
"Why do you keep dropping these bombshells in pieces? Say it all at once!"
She'd had enough of the constant twists and turns and just wanted a straight answer.
