Checking in for 100,000 Years-Chapter 774: The Unearthed Stele, The Characters for Dragon Tomb
"It’s a stele!"
Big Black Cat, sharp-eyed as ever, recognized it at once. He scurried over and said with a smile, "There are characters on it too! Let’s see what they say?"
WHOOSH.
Everyone crowded around.
The stele was incredibly ancient and greatly damaged. The inscriptions on it were extremely faint.
They spent some time trying to decipher it.
"This looks like the character for ’tomb’..." Su Wanyi whispered.
"Tomb? So, this place is a cemetery?" Big Black Dog’s eyes lit up, and, as if he’d had a shot of adrenaline, he grew excited.
Grave robbing was his true calling, after all! It was his favorite livelihood. He’d originally thought this underground palace wasn’t a tomb, but it seemed he’d circled back to his old trade.
"Whether this is a cemetery or not, did you all notice? This stele is incomplete. It looks like there was another piece above it..." Su Wanyi pointed with her delicate hand, shaking her head with a smile.
"Indeed. We should look more closely. There might be other clues..." Big Black Cat said.
The group turned and started walking deeper into the underground palace.
In the dim light, the four of them trod among massive white bones. The cold wind moaned around them, and a sense of absurdity rose within them, as if they were walking in Hell itself.
"This time, it seems we’re going to strike it rich! Such a large tomb, the person buried here must be remarkable!" Since realizing it was a tomb, Big Black Dog had been gesticulating wildly; he was even more excited than Big Black Cat now.
Big Black Cat cursed, "Dog! When will you elevate your standards a bit?"
A mere ancient tomb! Even if a powerful expert of the Eternal Realm was buried here, what good things could it possibly contain?
After walking for a while, the group had found nothing.
The Sky-boring Rat sniffed around restlessly, clearly looking for something.
"Over there! I can sense the aura of a stele..." Suddenly, the Sky-boring Rat leaped up and quickly darted towards a pile of bones.
"Good grief, your nose is even sharper than mine!" Big Black Dog exclaimed.
"Of course. The Drilling Sky Mouse Clan has impressive olfactory abilities..." Big Black Cat said, laughing.
Everyone hurried over. Beneath the bones, the Sky-boring Rat was fervently digging and, within moments, uncovered another stele.
"Does this stele have some special scent?" Su Wanyi asked with a smile.
Sky-boring Rat scratched his head and smiled shyly. "Miss, this stele has a faint but distinct scent of blood. That’s how I was able to follow the clue to find the other piece..."
Su Wanyi smiled softly.
The Sky-boring Rat flipped over the stele, and everyone’s eyes were drawn to a large, clear character etched on it.
"Dragon."
On the stele was a relatively clear character: Dragon.
Big Black Cat scratched his chin, completely baffled. "What’s going on? Why is the character ’Dragon’?"
This stele should connect to the previous one. If the two pieces were stacked, they would form two characters: Dragon Tomb.
"Dragon Tomb... Could these words be hinting that a Divine Dragon is buried here?" Big Black Dog guessed.
"These bones should all belong to the Dragon Clan. After these dragons died, they weren’t buried..." Su Wanyi said softly.
"Miss, are you saying many dragons died here, and this underground palace itself is a cemetery for dragons? Is that right?" Big Black Cat asked.
"That’s probably the gist of it..." Su Wanyi nodded calmly.
A lively discussion erupted among them.
At that moment, Ye Yun’s gaze grew profound.
’Dragon Tomb’... in a way, it could indeed be understood as a burial ground for the Dragon Clan. But why would so many dragons have died in this mysterious underground palace? Observing the bones, Ye Yun noticed they shared a common trait—they had mostly been dismembered before death, hence the chaotic jumble of bones, utterly lacking any order. Logically, if a large number of Divine Dragons had truly perished here, the white bones their bodies eventually became should at least have some semblance of order. Ye Yun felt there were many suspicious aspects to this underground palace, but he restrained himself and didn’t scan the area. He wanted to give these three juniors a chance to gain experience first.
...
"This underground palace is vast. We should continue exploring. We still haven’t found Master, and I’m getting a little anxious..." Su Wanyi sighed.
Their earlier discussion hadn’t yielded any conclusions. They were just blindly guessing that this place was likely a burial ground for the Dragon Clan.
The group set off again.
Traversing through piles of white bones, the four of them pressed on. After walking for about an hour, a feeble voice suddenly came from beneath a distant skeleton.
"Who?"
"Master, is that you?" Su Wanyi’s face brightened, and she rushed over without hesitation.
The Big Black Cat’s expression was complicated, but after only a second’s hesitation, he also rushed over.
The voice was familiar. It was his previous master, Wan Feng, the Sect Master of the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect.
Su Wanyi rushed over and saw her master, Wan Feng, leaning against a skeleton. His face was deathly pale, his complexion ghastly, as if he had lost too much blood and had no strength left at all.
"Wanyi, why is it you?" Wan Feng asked in astonishment, recognizing the beautiful young woman before him.
"Master, I came back to save you," Su Wanyi squatted down and said excitedly.
Big Black Cat also squatted down, his voice tinged with emotion. "Master, I’ve returned too..."
"Little Cat, weren’t you guarding the Nine-leaf Blood Lotus in the Ancient Moon Dynasty? Why have you suddenly returned?" Wan Feng asked, extremely surprised upon seeing the Nine-tailed Spirit Cat.
Big Black Cat said with grief and indignation, "The Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect suffered a great upheaval. I was worried and came back to check. I never expected that you, Master, had entered this underground palace and met with misfortune..."
"You shouldn’t have come..." Wan Feng sighed, a look of disappointment in his eyes.
"Master, don’t say such disheartening things," Su Wanyi coaxed.
"There’s an extremely bizarre and powerful creature in this place. It has drained all my Mana and Essence Blood..." Wan Feng sighed. Then, as if experiencing a last surge of energy, he suddenly raised his hand and pushed Su Wanyi slightly.
"Before that monster arrives, you must leave this place immediately! If you’re too late, none of you will make it out alive!" Wan Feng said anxiously.
The Big Black Cat’s ears perked up. "A real monster?" Hearing this, he immediately grew excited again.
What kind of monster could it be? Why does it give me such a familiar feeling? Could it be... one of my kin?
...
"Master, you won’t die! Here, eat this pill first!" Su Wanyi took out a Dragon Tiger Pill and fed it to the extremely weak Wan Feng.
Then, she infused a thread of Mana, helping the pill dissolve and take effect in his lower abdomen.
The potent medicinal power of the Dragon Tiger Pill surged like a torrential river, rushing through his limbs and meridians.
"What kind of pill is this?" Wan Feng asked in astonishment, feeling his Mana rapidly increasing.
"Master, this is a Dragon Tiger Pill," Su Wanyi spoke softly.
"This Dragon Tiger Pill is no ordinary item..." As he said this, Wan Feng suddenly felt strength return to his body and abruptly stood up.
After standing up, his body swayed a little.
"I’ve lost too much Essence Blood; there’s almost none left. Although my Mana has been replenished, my body is still weak..." Wan Feng laughed awkwardly.
"Master, look, aren’t you much better now? Once we get out, you can have a good, long recuperation. It won’t take more than half a year or a year, and you’ll be back at your peak! Hehe!" Big Black Cat chuckled, rubbing his hands together.
"Back to my peak? Hahaha, how could that be possible? I will never relinquish the position of Sect Master of the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect again!"
From the distant darkness, an aged voice suddenly echoed.
Then, Lu Shaoyou, his face grim, slowly walked out.
