In a dimly lit cave, a jet-black-haired boy was unconscious on the cold ground.

His body shifted as if he was feeling pain even in his sleep.

He was Alden.

His body was too exhausted.

His breathing was steady, but his muscles were in pain everytime he tried to even move slightly.

Slowly, his eyes opened his eyes.

The ceiling of the cavern was above him.

For a moment, he just lay there, letting his body adjust. Then, with a deep breath, he sat up.

Pain coursed through his arms, reminding him of his final attack. The devastating arc of energy he had unleashed.

Yep that was definitely an overkill.

He had taken a high-rank healing potion, and most of his injuries had healed, but the ones on his hands were still there.

He tried to move his fingers, checking for any damage.

It was bad, but nothing a high-grade potion wouldn't fix. It was just taking some time. Even now he could feel his muscles being healed.

His gaze shifted.

The Bloodfang Tyrant lay motionless a few meters away, its crimson fur dull.

Alden stood up.

He didn't know how much time had passed, but from how his injuries hadn't fully healed, he could guess it hadn't been more than two hours.

He ignored the discomfort and walked toward the fallen monster.

He sliced open its stomach, checking for the Chaos core.

But there was nothing.

He was slightly disappointed.

Boss-class monsters weren't guaranteed to drop Chaos Cores, but it would've been nice to get one.

With a thought, he activated [Storage Ring], and the massive corpse vanished in an instant.

With nothing left to do, Alden turned his gaze toward the swirling portal at the far end of the cavern.

It appeared after he killed the boss.

It was the dungeon's exit.

Time to leave.

The moment Alden stepped out of the dungeon portal, the cool night air greeted him.

The glowing red portal behind him vanished as if it were never there.

It has gone into its dormant mode.

It will only appear after two or three months, probably.

He had entered the dungeon somewhere around evening, and it had taken him nearly seven hours to complete it.

The sky above was dark but peaceful.

But what caught his attention wasn't the peaceful atmosphere.

It was the group of Dungeon Association officers standing near the entrance.

Two initiate-rank officers were stationed by a monitoring outpost, their eyes locked onto the portal.

They were the same officers who had been there when he first entered.

One of them, a man in his late twenties with short black hair, noticed Alden first.

His bored expression shifted into one of genuine surprise.

For a moment, there was silence.

"You're… back already?" The officer blinked.

"Yeah?" Alden replied blankly.

Did he expect me to die or something?

"You cleared it?" The second officer frowned slightly.

What kind of dumb question is that?

Can't they see the portal has vanished?

Alden sighed.

He was too tired for this.

"No, I just took a nap in there," he said.

"No offence, kid, but most groups of students take at least a full day to clear that place." The officer was still in disbelief. "You've been in there for what… seven hours? And moreover alone."

"It wasn't that difficult." Alden didn't bother saying anything else.

The officers exchanged a glance between themselves.

"Well, guess you proved us wrong. Got any injuries?" The first officer sighed.

"Nothing serious."

"Alright, then. Hand over the tracker."

Alden took off the black bracelet they had given him earlier and gave it back to the officer.

"You're good to go." The officer tapped something on his ManaSync.

Alden gave a nod and turned away.

"Damn. Another monster in the making, huh?" Just as he started walking, he heard the officer mutter under his breath.

Alden smirked but didn't look back.

After taking a Mana Train again, Alden returned back to Valloria. It was late in the night, but the city was still as bustling as always.

The city never truly slept.

Alden, however, wanted nothing more than a hot shower and a bed.

He hadn't rested properly.

He had lost consciousness after the fight, but that was hardly real rest. He still felt tired.

He had many things to do, but he was going to deal with them all tomorrow.

For now, he just needed to freshen up.

He entered a decent-looking hotel and booked a room without much hesitation.

He headed straight for the shower.

The warm water washed away all the dried blood that was sticking to his body.

He felt his whole body relaxing.

After cleaning up, he changed into fresh clothes from his storage ring and lay down on the hotel bed.

His exhaustion finally caught up to him. His body felt heavy and his mind slowed down.

Tomorrow, he will step into the underground world.

But for now…

Sleep was all that mattered.

__

Alden woke up to the rays of light peeking through the curtain of the window.

His crimson eyes snapped open.

He looked around for a bit in confusion before realising he was in the hotel.

He stretched his body a bit.

He looked at the time. He had slept for nearly ten hours.

But he was feeling refreshed, so it was all worth it. He dragged his body to take a cold shower. It was his routine after all.

After taking a shower, he got dressed and went to have breakfast. It was still early in the morning. So there were not many people around.

He peacefully had his breakfast before he checked out of the hotel.

Now was the time.

He was going to visit the Black Market.

Hell nah.

What's the use of visiting the black market in the morning? He was going to visit it in the night.

He had classes tomorrow, meaning he needed to be back at Academy Island before then.

But honestly? If he wasn't, the worst that would happen was a fine.

He would just have to pay some Astra.

But that was manageable. So he wasn't that worried about that.

He was going to take his sweet time and explore Black Market today.

But for now.

He was going to explore the city of dreams—Valloria.

He started walking towards the main city.

The City of Valloria was divided into three parts.

Inner District, Central District, and Lower District.

The Inner District housed the imperial palace and many noble households.

The Central District was known as the Commercial and Entertainment hub, where most of the ordinary people resided.

It also housed all kinds of shops. The Teleportation Hub was situated in the Central District.

The lower district, as you might've guessed, housed the slums, where illegal dealings were an everyday occurrence.

Alden was currently in the Central District, or more accurately, at its edge, where it bordered the Lower District.

The Mana train station was nearby, which was why he stayed in a hotel here last night.

Now, he was making his way toward the heart of the Central District.

But just as he passed an alley—He heard a sharp and desperate scream.

"PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME!!"

What's that now?

Alden traced the source of the voice. He saw a woman was cornered by three men in the shadows of a dark alley.

Their lust-filled eyes said it all.

Alden looked at the woman.

Then at the men.

The agian at the woman.

Yep…

Definitely a trap.
