Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 432: Slander
Leah winced in pain, immediately causing a stir, "You brat, are you crazy?"
"If the mother is unreliable, the child will be too. To treat elders like this, tsk tsk..."
"Clinging to a little boy like that, must be influenced by adults. This child is so cute, it’s a pity she has such a mother."
"When she grows up, she’ll be another troublemaker, who knows how many people she’ll cause trouble for."
...
The group of socialites who had gathered earlier were now gossiping about Ruby Sullivan’s situation. Seeing Honey’s rude behavior, they looked down even more on this mother-daughter pair. Much like Leah, they thought it was odd for Ruby to show up at her ex-husband’s mother’s wedding.
Why would she shamelessly come other than to see if she could leverage her ex-husband’s connections for her gain? They said the Sterling Family was broad-minded to let a woman like her stay here without kicking her out.
Ruby Sullivan was startled by Honey’s behavior as well and quickly went over to pull her daughter back, "Honey, you can’t be this rude."
"She bullied mommy, she’s a bad woman," Honey said angrily.
Leah, being reprimanded by a child, was somewhat exasperated, "You’ll understand when you grow up, no one is worse than your mom!"
Honey’s expression turned dark, and she almost kicked Leah again, but Ruby Sullivan held her back tightly.
At this moment, Seth Sterling also came running over, "Honey, be good."
Only then did Honey settle down somewhat, "Brother, that bad woman bullied mommy."
Seth turned to glare at Leah, "If she’s a bad woman, ignore her, it’s beneath us." He took Honey’s hand, "Come on, I’ll get you something delicious."
Honey didn’t quite understand what her brother said, but she trusted that he was right. She made a face at Leah and obediently left with her brother.
Ruby Sullivan exhaled deeply, glaring menacingly at Leah and committing the incident to memory.
Not far away, Ethan Sterling was observing this scene too. Although he couldn’t hear what was being said, seeing his daughter’s outburst, the woman’s expression, and the other women whispering, he guessed what Ruby had just gone through.
Aidan Sinclair found it odd, seeing Ethan so calm, "Aren’t you going to check on Honey?"
"No need, my son is better at appeasing. I need to check on my wife." He said and walked toward Ruby Sullivan.
Aidan Sinclair was puzzled, "When did you two get back together?"
"You wouldn’t understand matters between a couple." Ethan Sterling scoffed with an air of a seasoned person.
Aidan Sinclair rolled his eyes.
Wendy Sheffield was curious, "Didn’t they just get divorced? Are they remarried?"
"Maybe, there’s a saying about fighting under the sheets and making up likewise. They’re probably like that." He momentarily envied such a marriage.
Ever since the seed of love had taken root, Aidan Sinclair had become a bit obsessed, involuntarily thinking of various marital scenarios and itching to dive into the next Chapter of life, bidding farewell to the single life.
Wendy Sheffield observed his expression, probing once more, "Are you... envious?" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Of course I am, I want to get married soon too." He laughed foolishly, thinking about Stella Jennings again.
To Wendy Sheffield, it seemed like he was unwittingly confessing, bringing a secret joy to her heart.
On another side, Vivian also noticed the commotion and hurried over to see what was happening. Taking the opportunity of everyone being away, Shawn Sheffield chatted with his uncle, "You should urge Aidan to get married and have a child soon. Your grandchildren, no matter how wonderful, are someone else’s blood, not of the Sinclair Family."
His uncle understood it was for his good so he wasn’t angry. In his mind, though, blood relations didn’t matter; after a life lived wildly in his youth, he felt that being together, living well, trusting, and supporting each other were most important in old age. Affinity does not guarantee that the next generation will bring joy.
Shawn Sheffield saw his uncle was silent, so he continued, "What do you think of my younger daughter?" he said with a smile, pointing to Wendy Sheffield standing next to Aidan Sinclair.
Only then did his uncle realize his old friend’s implication and immediately laughed, "Your daughter is amazing, I just worry she wouldn’t fancy my wayward son."
Shawn Sheffield felt half reassured hearing this, "She and Aidan have known each other since childhood and get along well. To be honest, my daughter’s return from abroad has a lot to do with Aidan, showing that daughters, when they grow up, can’t be retained."
His uncle was pleased to hear this and appreciated his friend’s goodwill, "Does this mean we’ll soon have a double celebration of kinship?" He thought since Aidan was not behaving properly, it was time to intervene and with Vivian’s skills in communication with their son, he could leave the matter to his wife.
Ruby Sullivan sat on a chair in the corner sulking while nearby, Honey and Seth were spinning around hand in hand with Vivian, their spirits seemingly calmed.
She knew she shouldn’t be upset over such trivial things, perhaps it was a sign of her lacking composure.
Suddenly, the light in front of her dimmed, and she looked up to see Ethan Sterling’s smiling face.
"Will this beautiful lady grant me the honor of a dance?" Ethan offered her a hand.
Ruby Sullivan smiled, "I suppose I’ll graciously accept." She said, placing her hand in his.
Ethan Sterling gently led her into his arms, whispering in her ear, "Sorry to have put you through this, my apologies."
"No need to apologize, I’m not that fragile." Ruby Sullivan retorted stiffly, though his apology made her feel much better inside.
Ethan led Ruby into the dance floor, causing jaws to drop all around. Sharon Bennett’s sister heard about the spat between her sister and that woman and whispered the gossip into her mother-in-law’s ear, exposing Ruby Sullivan’s notoriety.
Shawn Sheffield’s wife, who was quite naïve, was frightened by this news and felt the need to remind her old friend.
So she hurried over to Shawn Sheffield, telling his uncle, "I heard that woman has a bad reputation. Now that Ethan Sterling is your stepson, it’s best to be careful, especially since Aidan isn’t married yet and shouldn’t get entangled."
His uncle typically didn’t concern himself with such matters and thought it wasn’t his place to interfere in the kids’ affairs, moreover, Ruby’s cooking was too good. From that standpoint, he didn’t wish for them to divorce.
Even knowing the good intentions, he sternly said, "My children don’t need to worry about getting married, and I find Ruby to be a fine girl. If she and Ethan can reconcile, I’m all for it!"
Shawn Sheffield and his wife were displeased with his attitude, promptly remaining silent.
But thinking about Aidan’s friendship with Ethan, the prospect of their daughter marrying into the Sinclair Family and becoming sisters-in-law with someone like her was unsettling.
