Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 434: I Like Stella Jennings
Wendy invited her mom in and continued to remove her makeup in the bathroom.
Mrs. Sheffield followed her to the bathroom door, "How are things going with Aidan Sinclair?"
"Not bad." Wendy thought about what he said today, "If nothing major comes up, you could probably start planning my wedding this year." She knew her mother had been worried about this for a long time, believing that the sooner she got married, the more at ease her mother would be.
Unexpectedly, her mother’s reaction was different from what she had anticipated, "So soon...?"
Wendy was puzzled, "Weren’t you and Dad anxious about it?"
"We are, but you still need to get to know each other better—marriage is no small matter." Mrs. Sheffield thought of Vivian’s cutting remarks, and couldn’t help but worry, "I fear you might not get along well with your future mother-in-law."
Wendy didn’t mind, smiling helplessly, "Mom, I think we should only worry about things like that after Aidan and I are officially committed to each other. Assuming things won’t go well before even meeting her seems a bit premature, right? Besides, she’s just a stepmother. If things don’t go well, we can just see less of each other."
Mrs. Sheffield sighed, feeling her daughter was thinking too simply, but she didn’t say it out loud, "As long as you know where you stand. Your father just wanted me to ask about the situation. He wants to collaborate with Stellaron, and if you two confirm your relationship soon, it would also benefit the Sheffield Family’s business."
There was already one rebellious daughter in the family, so Mrs. Sheffield spoke cautiously, fearing her younger daughter, who had studied abroad, might take offense. But rather than letting Wendy hear about it herself later, it was better to tell her now so that she could have a sense of it.
Wendy didn’t mind, "That’s perfect. After all, once we’re together, it’s only natural for Aidan to help my big brother with the business—my own brother should be more reliable than the stepbrother brought by a stepmother."
Mrs. Sheffield felt relieved hearing this, "Then you rest up, I’ll go sleep as well."
*
Ethan Sterling’s room.
He draped his long legs over Ruby Sullivan’s waist like a koala, wrapping her entirely in his arms, disregarding Ruby’s protests, only satisfied when holding her like this.
"I haven’t seen you for a week, I missed you." He whined, resting against Ruby’s back.
Ruby felt like she was sleeping under a weight, exhaling with difficulty, "Your missing me is quite heavy."
Ethan chuckled, "Of course, anything less and you wouldn’t feel it strongly."
Ruby, at a loss for words, could only persuade herself to sense the love in it. Hmm, still heavy.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Ethan changed positions, choosing between expressing his longing and caring for his wife, he chose the latter.
Ruby was grateful his intelligence was still intact, turning to give him a light kiss on the face.
"Honestly, doesn’t hearing others talk about me bother you?" Ruby thought about today’s incident and decided to ask him directly.
This would probably occur inevitably again in the future, she didn’t know how long Ethan could endure, and perhaps Ethan didn’t know either, but he wasn’t worried, enjoying the love they had now. She thought, this was the reason they could come back together.
"Are you silly?" Ethan pinched her cheek, "Why would I feel good hearing others talk about my wife? Hopefully, one day I can make those gossipers shut themselves up." He smiled faintly, lacking his usual overbearing confidence, yet it felt reassuring.
"Hmm, ambitious, not bad." Ruby encouraged him like he was a schoolchild, speaking half-heartedly, then yawning and closing her eyes.
She was still jet-lagged, and it was indeed uncomfortable at this hour.
Ethan gazed at her lovingly, kissing her forehead, assuring himself, don’t worry.
He certainly knew why Leah Bennett appeared at the wedding, but for a woman so ill-mannered and brainless to find a good match, like her sister marrying a fine man, she could only hope to meet true love.
He decided to be a good Samaritan, helping some clueless lads recognize this woman’s true nature.
Ethan was just about to hold his wife asleep when a knocking sound interrupted.
Ruby furrowed her brow, turning over, "Anyone but the two little ones, I can’t forgive!" she grumbled, getting ready to open the door, but Ethan stopped her.
"I’ll go." He said, already out of bed, his thoughts echoing his wife’s. Thus, when he opened the door to find it was Aidan Sinclair, he immediately shut it again.
Aidan outside was stunned for a moment and could only knock again, "I have something to discuss with Wenny."
He was still holding Stella Jennings’ contract, intending to seize an opportunity to visit the set and get some information out of her, but he felt he wouldn’t do well. After much thought, only Ruby Sullivan’s identity would do.
Stella and Ruby were friends, and bringing Ruby along to the set visit seemed justifiable, perfect.
"If you don’t open the door, I’ll keep knocking." Aidan stood outside, persistently threatening.
Ethan had black lines across his face, opened the door again, and spoke coldly, "What’s in it for me?"
"You can have any of our company’s artists, Wenny can choose at cabbage price for endorsement."
"Honey, did you hear that?" Ethan asked, turning his head.
"Let him in." Ruby sat up with a blanket wrapped around her, an unruly lock of hair sticking up on her head.
Aidan happily pushed past Ethan, grinning like a sly old fox.
He thought, if Ethan and Ruby could reconcile, then liking Stella wasn’t something that couldn’t be mentioned. If he delayed further, and the little girl got poached by another company, he’d be even more passive.
Seeing his expression, Ruby felt uneasy and her hair stood up, "Let me make it clear first, I won’t do anything villainous." She wasn’t very familiar with Aidan, and her skills could only help so much. Besides, with his sneaky smile, Ruby presumed what he was asking her to do wasn’t anything good.
Aidan laughed sinisterly, sitting back in a chair, "Look at what you’re saying, I’m a good citizen through and through."
Ruby smiled, inviting him to continue his act.
Ethan, seeing his hesitant appearance, guessed his intention, "You got five minutes." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Aidan glared at him, then turned his head back to Ruby, though he couldn’t get the words out, his face started to heat up, just a bit useless.
"If you don’t say it, I’ll say it." Ethan watched him and couldn’t help but despise.
Ruby didn’t expect Ethan to know, her curiosity piqued, "What is it?"
"Do you know about Stella Jennings participating in the talent show?"
Ruby nodded.
"The show’s about to air, I plan to visit the set next week and want you to come with me." Aidan avoided the main point.
Ruby blinked, thinking this wasn’t such a big deal, certainly not something that should make Aidan so awkward. As for them knowing each other, she didn’t find it strange. The little girl had been pulled into several of his private parties, which made it quite normal.
She frowned, "Is that all?"
"Yeah." Aidan nodded; for now, it was just that.
Ethan sighed, interjecting, "He’s an old bull wanting young grass, has his eyes on Stella."
Ruby was stunned, seeming to understand what Ethan said, "Um... say that again."
Aidan exhaled, "I like Stella Jennings."
