Claimed By A Dragon Prince-Chapter 45: Taking Action
Chapter 45: Taking Action
Getting down to the gates Lily could see that it was more dire than his second knew about. More had showed up with similar injuries and make-shift medical tents had been erected to house the wounded. Lily and Dimitri walked up looking around at the chaos going into the closest tent. Several people were working on more that had been wounded by the darkling some with the toxic slug on them others with gaping wounds.
"Shit! You have got to be kidding me? When the hell was the attack? It couldn’t have been more than an hour ago." Lily was flabbergasted by the scene before she quickly started moving to each healer handing them fresh dragon moss she had grown. The healers were hesitant before Prince Dimitri came and reassured them it would work properly.
Heading to another tent Lily made sure to give just enough to each patient depending on wound size and depth. After the 5th tent, she was out of dragon moss and fortunately, there weren’t any more casualties coming in. So far she had seen 20 people who had been injured and at least 8 of them needed the dragon moss.
Walking into one of the tents she saw Trinee giving the healers a potion of some sort. "What is that?" Lily saw this liquid in her lab after her attack a couple of days ago. "It’s something I made to counteract the slug. I got the sample from you and quickly synthesized an antagine that would push the slug out of the pores. I had planned to use it on you, but you did what you did and so I kept it on the shelf. A good thing I did. Can you believe this and on the night of the Winter Solstice Ball."
Lily knew it wasn’t a coincidence that there was an attack. Too many incidents have happened recently to lead her to believe it was all chance. Looking around Dimitri organized some of his personal guards to help with the wounded and provide support when lifting and moving patients. He was finishing a conversation with his second when a loud horribly screeching roar could be heard close by.
Lily immediately looked to the sky to see three darkling dragons heading their way. Dimitri was a few feet away from her and Trinee. Lily grabbed a couple of the bottles put them in her pocket and grabbed a dagger from her satchel and borrowed a sward from a guard who laid it next to the tent exit.
Running over to Dimitri who was shifting into his dragon she got close to his head shouting, "Let me come with you! I have an idea." Nodding Lily crawled on his back pulling out the sword and coating it with one of the bottles of antigen. "Get me close. Really close!" Dimitri took off into the air with Lily holding onto one of his horns with one hand. Gain height Dimitri faces the darkling head on going to the left for the first strike.
Flying right next to the darkling he spun quickly as Lily cut along its belly the antigen crippling the darkling dragon. It went crashing to the ground hissing and roaring in pain. Circling back around Lily coated the sword and her dagger a second time readying for the next attack. Dimitri waited for her to tap him before taking off after the other Darklings.
Tapping his shoulder he speeds up flying as she holds onto one of his spikes with her leg dagger and sword ready to take the other out. At the last minute, Dimitri dips low going under them as Lily moves to strike their bellies the insides dropping out as she cuts them from head to tail. The two thrashed as they fell to the ground the body looking mangled as the antigen quickly moved through their system.
Lily landed on Dimitri’s back landing that last blow to the Darkling dragons. Dimitri looks to the ground finding a good place to land. Lily hung on seeing the castle soldiers arriving to contain the scene on the ground. Landing near the first darkling Dimitri shifts as Lily slides down with Trinee running towards her.
"That was brilliant! Using the antigen as a weapon. Genius!" Trinee praised Lily as Dimitri pulled on his pants tying the belt. "Yes, that was a smart move. Now we can see what magic has been done on them." Dimitri spoke walking up to them. Grabbing his mate kissing her swiftly taking her breath away. Standing her back up right Lily had to take a moment to gain her bearings after that kiss.
"Thank.....you." Trinee had to hide the laugh threatening to come out as Erik walked over to them to give his report. "My Prince, we have the darkling secure and are ready for Trinee to take her samples when she is ready." he looked to Trinee who quickly headed to one of the tents coming back out with supplies to take her samples.
At that moment the Dragon King comes out with half the court in tow behind him. "My Goddess what happened here? And was that you flying through the air with a sword?" The King asked Lily and Dimitri having seen the battle from the terrace of the castle gardens. The First Prince and his entourage were right behind him, disgusted looks on their faces.
"My word, a butcher could have done a cleaner job of killing them. So much for femininity." The First Prince chided looking at the cut open dragon laying dead on the ground. "Battle isn’t pretty. You’d know that if you ever spent any time in one." Lily piped off with holding her prince close. The sour look on the First Prince’s face said that she had struck a nerve in him.
Dimitri spoke up at that moment not giving his brother the time to insult his mate’s efforts. "It was necessary or else we would have more casualties and we are already trying to treat them with what Little reserves Lily had put away. If you and your warriors had been hear earlier you could have helped capture one alive instead of having three dead."
The First Prince was about to tell his brother off when the Dragon King grunted gaining their attention. "It doesn’t matter now. You took down the Darkling Dragons, do you think there will be more?" Dimitri had checked the skies after the last two Darkling fell not seeing any more following them. "No father I don’t, but I want Erik to go with a group of elites and check the skies just in case." Erik nodded to his prince heading to the group he came in with.
The rest of the nobles that came out to see what happened had gone back inside. Only a few checked the tents to see the injured. "Make sure to write a full report of what happened, my son. We need to get these rouge dragons with magic coursing through their veins stopped. Lily, thank you for your valiant work. I will be sure to reward you once you can join the party."
The king turns to leave heading back with the First Prince who didn’t look to happy at his father’s words.
