Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 22: Making Peace
Derrick and Royal Knight sat opposite each other, with their legs crossed.
"I thought we were supposed to be learning Varyn?" Derrick asked, unable to see the reasoning behind his actions.
"We are, now be quiet and keep meditating." The royal knight’s voice was serious and stern.
He had told Derrick before they began not to say a word and to just focus completely on his surroundings.
Derrick sighed, he took a deep breath and did as Royal Knight instructed.
His mind was focusing on every little detail, the sun hitting his face, the sound of the grass swaying, and the pleasant smell all around him.
It was quite ironic that such a peaceful training ground had become a harbor for so much destruction.
The thought of destruction made his mind flash back to his brother, and the duel that lay ahead.
He knew that his brother had sent those assassins after him.
His blood boiled at the thought. Ivan had tried to end his life multiple times and always came out unsuccessful.
Derrick had never been bothered by Ivan’s relentless assassins until now. With Royal Knight’s focus split, anything could happen.
Derrick knew he lacked the power to properly protect himself from danger, and he wasn’t willing to die anytime soon.
"Your mind is clouded, Derrick." Royal Knight’s words pulled Derrick from his meditative state.
Derrick heaved a sigh, he didn’t want to speak to Royal Knight about the assassination anymore.
"Very well." Royal Knight didn’t say anything, instead, he stood to his feet.
"To use Varyn, you need to understand what it is." Royal Knight’s words made Derrick’s curiosity soar beyond measure.
"Varyn is energy, and like all forms of energy, there are rules guarding it." Royal Knight started.
"Firstly, Varyn is, in two words, life energy. The energy that flows from the grass beneath our feet, to the heartbeat of man, and the swaying of trees," Royal Knight continued.
"Varyn is basically taking life energy and using it to improve your body, or as a weapon." Royal Knight finished his explanation.
"Improve your body?" Derrick asked, that part stuck out to him.
"Varyn can be used to boost speed, strength, durability, agility, stamina and every other bodily trait." Royal Knight’s voice was sharp and serious.
Derrick placed a hand on his chin, if he could further boost his physical stats with Varyn, then he had a better chance of winning his duel with Ivan.
"And as a weapon?" Derrick asked. He had a few speculations in mind, but he wanted to be sure.
Royal Knight stretched his hand, and before Derrick could react, his body was suddenly thrown into the air violently.
Derrick flipped midair, and used his Air step to stabilize himself.
"Impressive." Royal Knight admitted, he didn’t expect Derrick to pull that off.
Derrick nodded, a pulse of energy like that would elevate his power level.
"It would take a very long time for you to reach my level of mastery." Royal Knight didn’t want Derrick thinking he’d become a power house in a few days.
"And, it may take months to even sense Varyn," Royal Knight admitted.
"Okay, how do we start?" Derrick remained confident in his abilities.
He possessed a grandmaster talent, things were usually faster for him than they were for many others.
Royal Knight sat on the floor once more, his legs crossed and his hands outstretched.
"Join me," Royal Knight ordered and Derrick did as he was told.
Derrick’s hands latched onto Royal knight’s, and he mirrored his position.
"I will send small traces of Varyn into your body. I need you to sense them, and then try to draw them in," Royal Knight explained, and Derrick nodded. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Derrick took a deep breath, his mind fully focused on his hands.
"Some people experience a traumatic memory first," Royal Knight added.
Derrick couldn’t pick up on anything, even the slightest pulse of any form of energy.
Until, something happened, deep in the regions of Derrick’s mind, a memory clawed its way to the surface.
At first, Derrick couldn’t make out which memory it was. Then, it became as clear as day.
The memory of Klea and Lancel betraying him shot to the surface, every moment intensified.
It wasn’t just a memory, it felt like he was reliving that memory, but with more clarity than before.
Royal Knight could sense Derrick’s tension, and knew what was going on.
"Hold on Derrick, if you panic, we’ll have to restart the process," Royal Knight warned, trying his best to hold on to Derrick.
Derrick gripped Royal Knight’s arms tightly, his fingers cracking under the density of Royal Knight’s armor.
In Derrick’s mind, he was fighting a mental battle unlike any other.
Right before his very eyes, Klea and Lancel were... Learning more about each other, a stage he had always been careful not to reach until marriage.
The anger and betrayal cut deep into Derrick’s mind and heart. He wanted to run, to stop them, but he knew as soon as he did, he would disrupt the process.
Derrick gritted his teeth, and cracks began to form. Panic entered Royal Knight’s eyes. Whatever was affecting Derrick would be a stumbling block.
"Derrick, if you don’t get through this, it will take you months before you can learn Varyn." Royal Knight warned.
Tears streamed down Derrick’s eyes, his anger finally turned into sadness, and sadness turned into acceptance.
Klea was gone. That was a cold and hard pill that he needed to swallow.
Whatever love she had for him had died. That was, if there was even any love in the first place.
Lancel, on the other hand, was never his brother or his friend.
He was just a jealous leech, who was obsessed with being the best.
There had been many clues in the past; the way Lancel and Klea looked at each other, the way they always changed the topic when Derrick walked in the room.
Derrick had just been too blind to accept it, and he finally made peace with it.
His mind calmed, and his anger faded. He sighed in relief, finally feeling lighter.
The anger and betrayal he had been carrying since that day had finally washed off, allowing him to see things clearly.
Derrick was pulled from his thoughts by a slight tingling sensation in his hands.
"I... I can sense it," Derrick said, excitement written all over his face.
"Good, now try to push back." Royal Knight was pleased, Derrick was progressing fast, too fast.
’It took many months, and even the king, the most talented of us, all 3 weeks to even sense Varyn, and he did it in minutes?’ Royal Knight was scared.
’If I can train this boy fully, then maybe, just maybe, he can beat the dark emperor.’
