Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 29: Cursed Varyn
War encroached Dravania with alarming speed, while the dark emperor’s strength swelled with each passing moment, eclipsing the power of the one fated to stand against him.
Derrick sat opposite Royal Knight, his hand latched onto his.
Heavy breaths flowed out of Derrick, his eyes closed, and his legs sat in a cross-legged manner, his mind focused on only one thing, the Varyn flowing through him.
"Pull on it, Derrick," Royal Knight ordered. They had been going at this for hours.
"I’m trying!" Derrick grunted, the words barely escaping his mouth.
One thing Royal Knight had failed to mention was how delicate and precise Varyn had to be.
One wrong move, and it would feel as if his blood had been replaced with molten lava.
"Stay calm Derrick." Royal Knight’s voice agitated Derrick even more.
Derrick could sense the tingling of Varyn around his fingers. His goal was to try and circulate it around his body, and so far, he was stuck at his elbows.
"Derrick, if you want to beat Ivan in the coming weeks, then you have to master this." Royal Knight finally broke Derrick’s concentration, forcing him to let go of the Varyn.
"Why did you have to bring that up?" Now that the fight was approaching, Derrick couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Yes, he had been training for quite some time now, but that couldn’t realistically make a difference.
Ivan had a master fire talent and would have at least done some basic training in the past two years. He doubted whether he had enough to close the gap.
"If you fear your opponent, then you’ve already lost." Royal Knight couldn’t stand to see Derrick scared.
"If you continue like this, then it would be better to forfeit the match. At least that way, we’ll know all your training has been for naught." Royal Knight was angry.
Angry at the fact that Derrick was scared, he had been training Derrick for about a month now, and here Derrick was.
In his eyes, Derrick was spitting on all of Royal Knight’s hard work, trying to tell Royal Knight that he had wasted his time training him.
It was an insult to Royal Knight, not just as a teacher, but as a knight who failed his king.
The king had instructed Royal Knight to train Derrick, and if Derrick was unable to perform well, then that would speak volumes about Royal Knight.
Derrick sighed. He understood Royal Knight’s anger, but at the same time, he needed Royal Knight to understand his fear.
"Look, I have given you the basics of every possible thing you need to beat Ivan, it’s up to you to push past your limits to achieve your goal." Royal Knight’s words hung above Derrick’s neck.
"He has a master talent..." Derrick voiced weakly, trying to get Royal Knight to see his side.
"And you have the dragon spirit." Royal Knight shot back.
"Where is the confident young boy who was willing to fight a knight just because he said something about him, where is the great Derrick of Dravania, the boy who beat three knights without breaking a sweat?" Royal Knight stood to his feet.
"When I look at you, I don’t see that boy. All I see is a pale, heartbroken reflection of Derrick, a waste of royal blood! " Royal Knight shouted.
Derrick lost it, his vision turned blood-red, he shot up to his feet instantly, his mind replaced with nothing but a primal killing instinct.
A faint red aura shot out of Derrick, and even Royal Knight could feel a shiver trail down his spine.
Derrick’s fingernails had dug so deep into his palm that blood flowed out of them.
His teeth were clenched, and his body was burning with rage.
Royal Knight instinctively took a step back, he tried to draw his sword, but Derrick was already before him with his fist inches away from Royal Knight’s head.
Royal Knight managed to dodge, but Derrick leaped into the air, executing a kick Royal Knight had never seen before.
Derrick’s leg crashed into Royal Knight’s face, and Royal Knight stumbled backwards.
"That’s impossible!" Royal Knight remarked, fear and shock mixing in his heart.
Derrick leaped towards Royal Knight, but with a single thought, Derrick’s body went limp.
Derrick had lost consciousness, an effect of Royal Knight’s enchantment.
Royal Knight backed away from Derrick’s body, staring at it like it was radioactive.
He couldn’t believe what he just witnessed, and all his years of experience were telling him to slay Derrick right here and now.
"What kind of child is this?" Royal Knight asked himself, still scared and shaken.
He approached Derrick’s body cautiously, using enough enchantments to knock out even an elephant.
Even then, he wasn’t sure if it was enough to subdue Derrick.
"I don’t think I can train this boy..." It was now that reality fully dawned on Royal Knight.
"This child, not only does he possess the dragon spirit and a grandmaster talent," Royal Knight turned Derrick’s body over.
He activated another enchantment which gave him a dark purple glow in his eyes.
He knew to confirm his suspicions, he couldn’t use his regular eyes. No, this required something far more mystical, deeper.
"Ka ve ba ra iga to." Royal Knight chanted while moving his hands.
Purple smoke flowed from his hands onto Derrick’s body, revealing purple runes, which glowed chaotically but with an underlying rhythm.
"Something’s not right here." Royal Knight decided to dig deeper.
No matter how much he stared at Derrick’s life force, he couldn’t fully understand.
At first, he had tried the basic Varyn exam, but it appeared average.
That was his first suspicion. The last person on this Earth that would have an average life force would be Derrick.
And that was confirmed by the attacks Derrick hit him with earlier. They were all filled with powerful and chaotic Varyn.
Royal Knight gasped, his hand went over his mouth, his previously stoic behavior had been completely thrown away.
Royal Knight had finally confirmed his suspicion, and it was even worse than he initially assumed.
"Cursed Varyn..." the Royal Knight whispered under his breath, his voice trembling with a fear he dared not fully express.
"This boy isn’t just a danger—he’s the harbinger of everything we’ve dreaded for centuries."
