Closer to Revealing My True Self-Chapter 309 - 233 Like a Poisonous Snake_1
Chapter 309: Chapter 233 Like a Poisonous Snake_1
At Steve’s place, there were two giant snakes, one couch potato, and one tyrannosaur, but at least none was the crazy type. With two big shots on site, Wu Huan relaxed quite a bit.
Knowing that Steve only had Feng Yi as his guest, Wu Huan was in no rush to leave since going back would be boring, and here he had someone to talk to.
Looking around, Wu Huan asked Steve: fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Hey, where’s your assistant?"
Since Steve had recruited two new assistants upon arriving in Yang City—he had quite a bit of work here and needed extra hands to help.
And with two more giant snakes around, he definitely needed the assistance.
It wasn’t that he was worried about some accidents, like "only a cellphone left on the scene" kind of horror scenarios.
Taking care of two snakes that big, Steve couldn’t manage alone.
He had many assistants; others had different tasks and weren’t in Yang City, so he recruited two more assistants specifically for work affairs in Yang City.
Steve mostly took care of things like cleaning the pool in the flower house himself, as he didn’t trust others with it. Of course, he personally took care of the snakes.
The remaining tasks could be handled by one assistant, who also had to occasionally prepare food for the two giant snakes, like pigs or rabbits.
The other assistant dealt with online matters and many trivial aspects of life.
"They went out to buy some things and should be back soon," Steve said.
When Feng Yi entered the house, he had already smelled the scents of three other people. Two of them should be the new assistants Steve mentioned. The remaining one, who was hired to cook, left a stronger scent in the kitchen area.
"Oh, they’re back," Steve heard noises from the garage.
In no time, the two assistants had entered through the front door, placed the items they bought, and came to the backyard.
Both assistants were about the same age as Feng Yi, quite young. One was a bit thin, the other more robust.
The slimmer one seemed restrained, politely greeted Feng Yi and Wu Huan, then stood quietly to one side without speaking much.
The more robust assistant was warmer and his banter flowed more naturally.
Wu Huan’s gaze swept back and forth over the two assistants.
He had been to this place before but hadn’t encountered Steve’s two assistants. When arranging drinks with Steve, they seldom met directly; if Steve was busy, Du, whose last name was used as a form of address for the assistant, would get in touch.
"Which one of you is Du?" Wu Huan asked.
He and Steve were both around forty, uncles to twenty-somethings, so calling the assistant with the last name Du "Little Du" was fine.
The thinner young man raised his hand, his face slightly red, "Wu... Brother Wu, hello... I am Du!"
His tone was somewhat awkward and faltering.
Wu Huan silently watched him for a moment, causing Du to start sweating on his forehead, then said, "Are you the ’Little Du’ who contacts me online?"
"... It’s me."
"You seem different from how you are online."
"Ah ha, I just have a bit of... social anxiety."
The smile on Assistant Du’s face was forced.
Steve intervened, "All right, stop harassing him, Little Du still has work to do."
After Assistant Du had left, Steve continued, "He does have some communication problems in this regard, but most of his tasks are online, and he handles them very well."
Wu Huan said, "I’m not questioning his work abilities, it just seems... there’s too huge a gap! Chatting with him online, I thought he was a lively youngster who could sass, act cute, and even shamelessly pretend when necessary. He’s quite a talker!"
Steve: "You should know, some people are fierce as tigers online but have social anxiety in real life."
If you let Assistant Du interact with others or a crowd, he’s just not capable of smooth communication. Not at all!
But give him a keyboard, and he can chat for three days and nights!
"That’s not exactly social anxiety, but rather, a lifestyle choice he’s made," Steve said. "As long as he completes the work assigned to him, it doesn’t matter which lifestyle he chooses."
Wu Huan nodded, "Alright, got it. From now on, when I contact him, I’ll use text messages instead of calling."
"You can also send voice messages. He’ll reply with text."
"Tsk, one time I sent him voice messages and he still replied with text. I thought he was just being professionally courteous, and so I mostly replied with text too. I didn’t realize it was because of this."
Wu Huan wasn’t so fussy with people he knew; he chose whatever was convenient.
Seeing Steve still frowning at him, Wu Huan asked, "What’s up?"
Steve: "Are you that free?"
"Today’s my day off, and I wanted to ask you out for a drink, but you’re unavailable. Are you discussing something that can’t be shared with others?" If that was the case, Wu Huan got up, intending to leave.
"Actually, it does have something to do with you," Steve said.
Wu Huan’s rising backside landed back in the chair.
"What is it? Tell me!"
Steve pulled out his cellphone, scrolled to a video, and handed it to Feng Yi: "Have you seen this reality show?"
Wu Huan stretched his neck to look.
"Oh, ’TA & It,’ the one with people and animals, or people and plants. It’s not as hot as some others but still decent. I’m one of the sponsors, their sugar daddy heh heh heh!"
Feng Yi looked at the introduction of the show on the cellphone, a provincial satellite TV program. The episode before last featured an idol star and succulents; the last one had an old artist and a parrot, and the upcoming one a rising internet celebrity with a countryside’s bully, a big white goose.
