Coldsnap: The Billionaire Alpha's Fated Pregnant Princess (GL)-Chapter 235 - Unexpected Security Issues… I Have Security?
"...and I’ll have the boutique open for the rest of the afternoon if you need anything adjusted or want to pick out something for... maybe celebrating with someone else?"
Anise was talking to me with a smirk as we stepped out of the elevator. I was about to respond that she should mind her own personal business before butting into mine when my phone began buzzing.
> Quite insistent. whoever it is. <
My wolf finally pushes a few impressions at me, wanting me to check just in case it is Kyrie. While also turning its face away and snout up when I pop in my mindscape to see it, tail flicking in continued irritation.
"Popular woman, aren’t we?"
The blonde beside me in reality teased when I pulled out the device from my new purse. Such a frequency of messages was unusual - five back to back. Most who had this number weren’t the rapid-fire texting type.
But it makes sense when I see it.
BK: [Congratulations are in order! :confetti-popper:]
BK: [However, we have a situation that may require your attention.]
BK: [Two individuals were detained by the security that your... well, that my boss put near the studio location.]
BK: [This happened approximately 20 minutes ago.]
BK: [One of them claims to know you personally and is requesting to speak with you specifically.]
There is so much to unpack there that I can’t help but frown. I feel like I may have agreed to this sort of protection, but also I don’t remember approving anything directly.
People that know me in the city are also very few - and none should know where I was going today. Let alone anyone that would be suspicious enough to actually need kept... detained.
"Everything alright?"
"I... think so?"
Like she knows I’m looking at the phone, her assistant sends even more messages. Adding more confusion.
BK: [Report says it is a male and female, teens. Both appear nervous but not hostile. I’ve also already checked them out on my end.]
BK: [Technically, I have the authority to release them from here, but given they came to see you and certain "family connections", I’d prefer if you go do it.]
BK: [They’re being held at a security van near a coffee shop two blocks away from your current location. Here is the location pin.]
"It seems I have an unexpected errand to run."
"Oh? So you’re already meeting her for celebration."
"That’s not what I said, Anise."
My phone buzzed again, it was almost getting annoying! She could have called and said all this while allowing me more of a chance to interject. I feel like I’m being held hostage by my reading an texting speed combined with this blondes... assumptions.
BK: [I realize this is an inconvenience, but I’d rather not make this decision without your input. It’s better left with someone whose judgment I wouldn’t question. Otherwise, I’d just let them drag them back home.]
"Seriously, I should probably go handle this. Again, not what you think. But I don’t know how to explain it. Rain check on the celebration planning?"
"Of course."
She answered quickly when I met her with an apologetic expression, though she still looked curious enough that-
"Will you be alright on your own? This sounds a bit mysterious."
> Yes, I overplayed it. She wants to come with now. Silly nurturing human, go use your mothering energy on your niece. <
"I’ll be fine. I think. Most likely?"
I falteringly assured her before shaking my head. Overthinking it isn’t going to help matters, I can always lead problems on another merry chase through the alleyways.
"Go open your boutique. I’m starting to feel bad that I’ve cost you sales and so many others your help. I’ll call you later and let you know how everything went... when I have more time to explain. Alright?"
"Sure thing. And Citra...?"
She catches me as I half turned toward the direction on the system map, a marker having been placed when I looked at the coordinates on my phone. When I tilt my head, she closes her pale blues and gives me one of those little bows I might expect from Reina or her grandfather.
"Whatever you may have said to my niece, thank you for trying to fix whatever I’d broken. If it repairs, I’ll try not to let it shatter again."
As Anise headed toward her ride with a far more dramatic exit than I was expecting... I started walking. Before I turned the last corner, I looked at the final message that had been sent from Claire. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
BK: [You know, a message back and not just walking away would be nice. Take your time to work whatever happened there out.]
C: [Why bother message? You are clearly watching and know where I went.]
BK: [Touché. Speaking of people being preoccupied and assuming I can just handle not being talked to, mind telling me what is up with my boss today? She seems distracted with some other matters.]
...Right. Like processing the fact that I have a supernatural system that predicts the coming apocalypse while giving me fantastical abilities. Or my true origin. Or... even just what we did in the forest and in the pool before that.
> No wonder she doesn’t want to bother Kyrie with this. That woman... probably shouldn’t have even gone into work! I do hope she isn’t making mistakes because of me. <
At this, of course, Vrika responds. Sending lots of memories of snuggling, piled together, and grooming wolves to make it clear what it thinks she should have been spending her day with. But I had a commitment to attend to... and I am *not* snuggling with her.
Just because I gave her some relaxation for both of our sexual tension’s sake doesn’t mean I need to try and quickly do all the other things that make us feel like an inseparable ’item’. In fact, if I can continue to avoid all that... then all the better.
"Broken commitments can’t hurt if they never existed in the first place. I just wish she wouldn’t look at me like she’s patiently waiting for more... like I’m the mistake she is making."
