Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 172 - 157: Severing All Ties (Part 2)
Nina Pierce said a bit apologetically, "But I’ve already made plans with someone tonight."
Quinn gave her a sly look, "Is it a boyfriend? If it is, bring him over to meet us! We can help you check him out!"
Nina felt a bit helpless. This Quinn! Why didn’t she tell her earlier!
After sending her off, she thought for a long time and sent a text to Noah Cross: Just got the notice, there’s a department dinner tonight, would you like to come along?
Since she had already decided to date him, introducing him to her colleagues wasn’t a big deal. It would let everyone at the hospital know she had a boyfriend.
It would also let that jerk know...
Noah was quite surprised that Nina would seek his opinion, taking him to meet her colleagues. This was undoubtedly making their relationship public...
This way, Uncle would know too, and her family would be reassured.
Thinking of this, he gladly agreed and replied: Sure, I’ll wait for you at the hospital entrance after work.
His reply put Nina’s heart at ease. It seemed he wanted to progress further in their relationship too, so be it!
Laura Quincy wasn’t surprised when she received a call from Jonah Xavier. Friends should be honest with each other, and if he asked, she didn’t mind telling him...
After all, nothing could happen between them, and if her past could scare him off, that was fine too.
Jonah arrived at Laura’s hospital room with a basket of flowers and fruit. At a glance, he knew it was definitely Jason Hawthorne’s doing; only he could arrange for Laura to stay in such a luxurious suite.
Jonah didn’t show much surprise, nor did he curiously look around the room. His demeanor was clear and calm, "Are you feeling better?"
Laura felt his genuine warmth. This man always moved her...
She then pulled a bitter smile, "The doctor says I need at least a month of rest. The new job I just found will probably fire me."
Jonah was amused by her optimistic mood, "Injuries and hospitalizations are unforeseen circumstances beyond control. If you explain to the company, you should be able to get a leave."
Laura pouted, "You were right. I don’t know if the company truly sympathizes with my situation or is doing it for your sake, but they really gave me a month’s leave."
Jonah chuckled lightly, "I’ve always respected your choices and wouldn’t greet them behind your back."
Laura felt warm inside, a self-mocking smile tugging at her lips, "Then it’s sympathy for my plight. Speaking of which, this really isn’t my year; this is my second hospitalization."
Jonah comforted, "Next year will be better."
Laura pursed her lips, "I hope so!"
As they were chatting, the door suddenly opened. Mary walked in with Twinkle, and both of them froze upon seeing a strange man inside.
Especially Twinkle, he looked at Jonah warily, as if afraid he’d take Laura away...
Jonah also sized up the little boy across from him. Clearly, this little boy was a spitting image of Jason Hawthorne.
However, he felt the boy’s features bore quite a resemblance to Laura’s...
And the boy seemed to be around five or six years old...
Mary quickly broke the awkwardness, "Laura, Twinkle heard you were hurt and specially brought you a loving meal."
Twinkle immediately presented his little lunchbox like a treasure, "Sister, I learned to make this with Mrs. Miller!"
Laura was deeply moved, "Mm, I will definitely finish it."
Twinkle joyfully hopped over to her. When Jonah blocked his view, he looked up at him and said in a childlike voice, "Uncle, are you Sister’s suitor?"
The little one’s blunt question made Laura feel a bit awkward. Twinkle really was a precocious child!
Jonah touched his nose and calmly replied, "Yes!"
His answer instantly caused a wave of shock, with Laura being the most surprised. Could they really not remain friends?
Mary stared at Jonah for a few seconds, then suddenly exclaimed, "I remember now! You’re the famous Counselor Xavier who often appears on TV! It’s said you’ve never lost a case and you’re the ideal husband of countless young women."
Jonah adjusted his glasses, "Thank you for the compliment."
Laura was once again slightly surprised. Wasn’t Counselor Xavier usually very low-key?
How could he admit it this time and even seriously say "thank you"? This totally wasn’t his style!
Twinkle looked at Jonah with even more vigilance. So Daddy’s rival was this formidable! Looks like he would have to help Daddy out!
