Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 175 - 159: Deliberately Keeping Her in Suspense
For several consecutive days, Jason Hawthorne didn’t come to bother Laura Quincy, but Justin Hawthorne was there every day. He occasionally went back to the old house for dinner in the evening, but he was basically at the hospital with her during the day.
This gesture made her feel very touched, the ultimate little warm man!
The medicine she used and the care she received every day were the best. After being hospitalized for just over a week, she could noticeably feel that the bruises on her body had improved a lot.
Moreover, there were specialized rehabilitation and nutrition specialists serving her, providing her with treatment and nutrition tailored to her body’s needs every day...
When Nina Pierce came to see her, she couldn’t help but exclaim, "Laura, the medical resources here are really impressive! I haven’t seen you for just a few days and I can already see you’re looking much better, and the wounds on your hands are almost healed."
Laura Quincy touched her own face, "Really?"
Nina Pierce nodded repeatedly, "Of course! Honestly, if you were to stay in our hospital for over a week, the effects definitely wouldn’t be this significant."
Laura Quincy smiled, "Recovering sooner is also good, I’m almost dying of boredom staying in the hospital every day!"
Nina Pierce looked around the room, "Could it be that a certain someone hasn’t come to bother you?"
Laura Quincy shook her head, "Nope."
Nina Pierce widened her eyes in disbelief, "No way! I thought for sure he’d take this opportunity to show up in front of you every day."
Speaking of this, Laura Quincy also felt surprised. When she first moved in, Jason Hawthorne had meant that he would often appear!
But...
Counting the days, he hadn’t shown up for five consecutive days.
Nina Pierce closely observed her friend’s expression, "Are you a tiny bit disappointed?"
Laura Quincy rolled her eyes, "How could I be? I’m hoping he’ll never appear again, okay!"
Nina Pierce grinned mischievously, "Really?"
Laura Quincy glared at her friend, "Of course!"
Nina Pierce shifted the topic, "Laura, it’s less than ten days to New Year’s, and now you’re forced to stay in Aethelburg, are you planning to spend the New Year’s Eve dinner here then?"
Laura Quincy played with her fingers, "Actually, the food here is really nice! And look at this suite, it doesn’t even feel like being in the hospital, I feel more like I’m recuperating."
Nina Pierce knew her friend said this to comfort herself, "That’s true, but being alone is still too lonely, how about coming to my house instead?"
Laura Quincy looked at her leg, "In ten days my leg won’t be fully healed, and going to your house like this would just cause you trouble, it’s fine! You can come visit me if you miss me!"
Nina Pierce understood her friend’s temper, "Alright then, I’ll come keep you company after the New Year’s Eve dinner."
Laura Quincy quickly waved her hand, "No! New Year’s Eve is a day for family reunion, how would it look if you came to keep me company?"
Nina Pierce pouted, "Can I really feel at ease with you in the hospital alone?"
Laura Quincy held her friend’s hand, "When the boat gets to the bridge, it will straighten itself."
Nina Pierce sighed and said, as if she had thought of something, "Did you know? Your half-sister came to the hospital looking for me."
Laura Quinched her brow faintly, "Why did she come looking for you?"
Nina Pierce got up and peeled an apple for her friend to eat, "To gather information about you, of course! I reckon it’s because her mom can’t handle the job of cleaning up the trash anymore."
Laura Quincy took the apple her friend handed over, "That punishment surely suits her. If it weren’t for this matter, she’d probably look down on garbage collecting for her whole life. Letting her experience it herself isn’t so bad."
Nina Pierce laughed as well, "Isn’t it just! I find it pretty satisfying to hear! Phoebe Turner won’t get any info out of me! I bet she’s been lurking around your neighborhood these days."
Laura Quincy said nonchalantly, "Let her go ahead and find nothing."
After a pause, Nina Pierce asked, "What about your father’s side...?"
Laura Quincy shook her head, "I don’t know. They probably can’t reach me for now anyway, which suits me fine, it keeps my ears quiet."
Nina Pierce fell silent. Dealing with such family truly was... distressing!
The Turner Family indeed had been in turmoil these past few days.
Ruth Leighton initially thought those people were just trying to intimidate her, so she didn’t take cleaning up the trash seriously at all, just loafing around on the streets...
But those men in black meant what they said, and she wasn’t allowed to go home until she finished the tasks she hadn’t completed during the day. Even if she ran home, they’d "catch" her and bring her back to continue.
After two days of this, Ruth Leighton got scared and became much more obedient.
However, cleaning the trash was genuinely disgusting to her. Most of the time, flipping open the trash bins released an awful stench.
Even with a mask on, she nearly fainted from the odor...
She started worrying if she’d get poisoned from smelling those toxic fumes every day...
During the day, her phone was confiscated, and she could only go home at night to cry to her husband about how miserable she was, almost creating a whole drama at home with her crying and lamenting.
"Honey, can you really bear to watch me clean trash on the streets? The stench practically suffocates me every day, sob sob..."
Ruth Leighton cried her heart out.
Victor Turner felt a bit sorry seeing his wife like this, "If you had known it would come to this, why did you do it in the first place! How could you squander five million without a word? Don’t you know you should leave yourself a way out?"
Ruth Leighton sat on the ground clinging to her husband’s leg, continuing to weep, "Honey, I know I was wrong, can you help me? If it doesn’t work, help me pay off part of it first, and ask those people to let me go?"
Victor Turner sighed, "Where does the company have that much spare cash to pay off your debts now?"
Ruth Leighton was surprised and then said, "Then call little Laura, she would at least give you face as her father, as long as she forgives me, I’d do anything for her!"
Phoebe Turner quietly chimed in from the side, "Dad, I’ve been to see Laura’s best friend, and I’ve staked out her home for days, but I can’t see her at all. Do you think she’s deliberately avoiding us...?"
Victor Turner suddenly rebuked, "How dare you speak! If it wasn’t for you leaking information to outsiders, would Laura have gotten hurt at the airport like that? How can she stay at home with such injuries?"
