Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 133: She’s My Wife Now
That night, as soon as Summer Lowell got home, she received a call from Noah.
She stared at the caller ID in distress, pondering how she should explain her current relationship with Maxim Sinclair to Noah.
Fortunately, Noah wasn’t calling to interrogate her.
"Director Lowell, I heard from the design department that Maxim Sinclair picked you up after work this evening. Did he trouble you? Or did they see it wrong?"
Summer Lowell stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the night scene outside with a helpless expression: "President Norris, those designers didn’t see it wrong. It was indeed Maxim Sinclair who picked me up after work today."
Her straightforward admission left Noah momentarily speechless.
After a while, once regaining his composure, Noah tentatively asked, "Director Lowell, I know very well about the disagreements between you two. If you are in a difficult situation, just let me know, I can help you."
"Thank you, President Norris, he didn’t trouble me."
Summer sighed softly, as countless thoughts crossed her mind.
[If I tell you, how can you help me?]
[Can you replace me and sign that contract, to be Mrs. Sinclair for a year?]
[You can’t! Besides, if I explain this contract to you, then the people at headquarters will know, and there are so many people there who don’t like me. It’s hard to imagine the kind of public scrutiny that would await me then.]
When she didn’t answer for a long time, Noah grew a bit worried and gently asked, "Director Lowell, we may have a superior-subordinate relationship at work, but privately, I consider you a friend. Asking friends for help is perfectly normal, so if you need me, just say the word without any hesitation."
"Thank you for your kindness, President Norris, I understand." Summer looked somewhat lost at the view outside, "This is a private matter between Maxim Sinclair and me, it’s an emotional issue, and outsiders can’t help. I can only handle it myself."
Unable to pry open her mouth no matter how he tried, Noah grew a little irritated. After a while, he hit upon a compromise: "Maybe you haven’t figured out how to say it yet. So how about this, when you’ve thought it through, come to my office tomorrow and tell me what’s going on, and I’ll see if I can help you."
"But tomorrow is Saturday, President Norris, we don’t have work. I’m really fine, please don’t worry about me."
"Are you sure you’re really fine?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"I’m fine, thank you, President Norris, I will handle my private matters, rest assured."
Since Summer said so, Noah couldn’t press further. They exchanged a few words about work and then hung up.
Having managed to deal with Noah’s persistent questioning, Summer then received a call from Maxim Sinclair.
"The line was busy for ten minutes, is work that hectic?"
"It was a call from the boss. I can’t exactly hang up, can I?" Summer lay lazily on the sofa, her cheek covered by the phone, "Thanks to you, word of you picking me up from work today has already reached President Norris. I guess it won’t be long before headquarters starts investigating me."
"I’ve said before, Stellart has no future. You might as well switch jobs sooner. At The Sinclair Group, you’ll be far better off than staying in this company that developed by planting spies to steal secrets."
Seeing him bring up old stories again, Summer pursed her lips indifferently: "So, why are you calling?"
"Of course, it’s to have you fulfill your duties as Mrs. Sinclair. Some friends have invited me to play tennis. I’ll pick you up around ten tomorrow morning."
Without much hope, Summer asked him tentatively: "Can I decline your invitation?"
"You know well," Maxim paused deliberately, "the answer is, of course, no."
Knowing this would be his response, Summer cursed a few words in her heart, then endured listening to a few sarcastic remarks from Maxim, ultimately unable to tolerate it any longer, she hung up the phone directly.
In a blink, it was the next day. Summer, having intentionally stayed up late, slept all the way to the tennis court in Maxim’s car.
Maxim looked at the still sleepy-eyed Summer, coldly sneered, and leaned close to her ear: "There’s something I forgot to tell you. Justin Huxley is coming to play tennis today too. Aren’t you going to get up?"
Upon hearing Justin Huxley was coming, Summer instinctively opened her eyes.
Seeing her significant reaction, Maxim’s anger surged, and he couldn’t help but speak mockingly: "Showing so much concern for Justin Huxley in my presence doesn’t sit well with me. In case you forgot, let me remind you, Justin Huxley isn’t that important in the Huxley Family. It’s quite easy for me to take care of him."
Not wanting to bring trouble to Justin Huxley needlessly, Summer looked expressionlessly at Maxim: "You’re mistaken. I just woke up because the driver said we’ve arrived at the court."
Maxim looked at her with a subtle smile: "No problem, you can explain it any way you like. But you’ll indeed see Justin Huxley later."
"So what?" Irritated for being woken up, Summer glared directly at Maxim, "Do you want to be jealous? I can fulfill that for you."
Upon hearing this, Maxim’s face turned grim: "You wouldn’t dare!"
"If you keep being so sarcastic, I can’t guarantee what might happen. Want to try?"
"You?"
Facing Summer’s sharp tongue, Maxim felt helpless, ultimately giving a cold snort, he opened the door and led Summer toward where everyone was gathering.
Once there, Summer immediately spotted Justin Huxley, the most striking figure in the crowd.
Noticing Summer’s gaze, Maxim scoffed and suddenly grabbed her into his arms: "Mrs. Sinclair, I’m standing right beside you, could you not be so blatant with your eyes?"
Summer lifted her head, looked at Maxim calmly: "You mean I should only look at you? If you don’t mind being embarrassed, I can stare at you the entire time here without doing anything else."
"If you dare, I won’t mind being embarrassed."
"You’re crazy!"
Summer was too exasperated to bother with him.
During their conversation, the two had reached the hall, where Justin Huxley, watching them enter hand in hand, clenched his fist slowly behind his back.
Maxim Sinclair, who would have thought you’d hide your true intentions under the surface!
You’re truly greedy, having so much already, yet still coveting others’ things?
I will definitely not let you have your way.
At this moment, Maxim wrapped his arm around Summer and greeted their friends before leading her directly to Justin Huxley: "You two are well acquainted, no need for introductions, right?"
Another tense situation.
All Summer wanted was to disappear on the spot, forcing a smile she said: "What a coincidence, Senior, are you playing tennis too today?"
Justin Huxley’s smile was visibly more natural than hers, he even extended his hand: "Summer, didn’t expect you to be Maxim’s girlfriend now, truly surprising!"
Maxim intercepted before Summer, shaking Justin’s extended hand: "No, you’re mistaken, she’s not my girlfriend, she’s my wife. We registered our marriage last week. There’s no helping it, destiny is strange that way. When the time is right, it naturally happens."
Justin Huxley looked at Maxim with a forced smile: "Well, congratulations then."
