Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 197: Justin Huxley Makes His Move
"Complaining won’t help," Summer Lowell was quite open-minded about it. "By the way, what did the doctor say? Am I just staying here for a few days in the hospital?"
"Hmm... Your situation could go either way, but Dr. Jacobs suggested you stay a few days. What do you think?"
Vivian Sullivan picked up the fruit knife nearby and dug out the biggest apple, sat on the chair, and started peeling toward the trash can.
"I think I might as well stay in the hospital for a few days," Summer looked around. "The environment here is quite nice. By the way, Vivian, do I have enough savings to stay in this ward for a while?"
"You do, but for us, it’s too extravagant," Vivian shook her head, thought for a moment, and added, "But you work so hard and earn so much money, isn’t it all for moments like this when you can spend freely? If you really want to stay, it’s not a problem for you."
Speaking of which, Vivian belatedly reacted. She raised her head and stared at Summer.
"What are you doing? What’s with that look?" Summer felt a bit uneasy being stared at, turned her gaze away, and looked at the blue sky outside the window.
"You don’t want to stay with the Huxley Family, do you?"
"Why do you ask?"
Summer didn’t admit or deny it, smiled faintly and asked Vivian back, "I was just casually asking if I should continue to stay in the hospital, why are you associating it so far?"
Vivian dared not say it’s because of Maxim Sinclair’s advice at the door just now.
She turned a corner in her mind and probed Summer with a teasing tone: "The other day when I went out for dinner, overheard someone mentioning the Huxley Family, talking about the old man’s romantic past, and the current complicated relationships in the Huxley Family. I’m worried you won’t adjust well to those aristocratic airs."
Summer stared out the window, barely detectable laughter escaped her.
Only now did she fully believe Vivian’s words, that they became friends because of shared interests.
Summer indeed felt unsettled staying with the Huxley Family these days.
Seeing her in silence, Vivian put down what she was holding, grabbed a wet wipe, and wiped her hands while moving closer: "Did I hit the nail on the head? Is it hard to stay with the Huxley Family?"
"How to say," Summer frowningly scratched her eyebrows, "It’s indeed an unfamiliar environment with many rules, and since I don’t know them well, it really feels uncomfortable."
"So it is!" Vivian drawled, unable to suppress her suspicion. Could it be, as Maxim Sinclair said, the Huxley Family is a den of tigers and wolves?
"What have you heard?" Summer reached out, helping her smooth out the frown between her eyebrows, "I see you’re worried, is the outside world gossiping about me? My senior is so exceptional, I heard many women want to marry him. Is my appearance making them unhappy?"
"Not at all, there’s no mention of you and your senior," Vivian picked up the fruit knife and the apple again. "It’s just hearing them talk about the secrets of the Huxley Family, anything you discovered living there? The gossip in a big wealthy family must be thrilling, right?"
"Even if there is, I wouldn’t know," Summer chuckled, "I don’t know anything right now, and I can’t go poking around, what would that look like!"
"True," Vivian opened a preservation box, quickly cut the peeled apple into small pieces, and offered it to Summer. "Eat up, your face looks so thin, obviously your senior hasn’t taken good care of you. I might have to give him an earful about it!"
...
Assistant Collins hung up the phone, approached Maxim Sinclair, his face solemn.
Charles Jenson saw this and pulled Dr. Jacobs aside.
"What happened?"
"The call just now was from the person in charge of our Cantova branch, President Warren of the branch tried to call you but couldn’t reach, so he called me instead. He said Justin Huxley has already aligned with President Grant from Aevum Group a few days ago. These days, they’re having breakfast together every day, looking quite pleased."
"President Grant from Aevum Group," Maxim Sinclair recalled the person instantly, immediately guessing Justin Huxley’s real motive, "Is he trying to snatch away The Bluegate Project?"
"I guess he is. Lately, many people have been looking for President Grant for the project, and he’s the only one who has built a good relationship with him." Assistant Collins showed concern, "We can’t just let him keep going, should we do something?"
"Let’s head back to the company, call Charles Jenson to join, and hold a small meeting at the company to discuss it." Maxim Sinclair said, then walked away from the corridor first.
Assistant Collins ran to the window, speaking to Charles Jenson who was chatting with Dr. Jacobs: "Urgent situation, President Sinclair wants you to ride back to the company with him, there’s a small emergency meeting later."
"Alright, I’ll head over now." Charles Jenson nodded, bid farewell to Dr. Jacobs, and, passing by the ward door, considered calling out Vivian Sullivan to remind her. But knowing her temperament, it’s likely she wouldn’t listen to anything said to her now, he decided to drop it.
After eating the fruit, Summer chatted with Vivian for a while, feeling really tired, continuously dozing off.
Vivian, seeing this, didn’t have the heart to keep disturbing her, persuaded her to sleep, then went to the nearby duty room, found Dr. Jacobs inside: "Dr. Jacobs, I’ve seen my friend’s condition, and it doesn’t seem serious. Could I take her to my place?"
Dr. Jacobs, who was previously advised, rejected her proposal: "Although Miss Lowell’s health is not a major concern, I worry she might experience another episode like today, fainting for unclear reasons, which is a dangerous occurrence. For the sake of her health, let her continue being observed in the hospital for a while."
"Today’s fainting wasn’t for no reason, it was due to stress, a reactive response from her brain. If she’s with me, cared for, avoiding professional encounters with Maxim Sinclair, naturally she won’t be stressed again, nor will have what happened today."
Dr. Jacobs shook his head, chuckled: "Dr. Sullivan, I know your medical skills are formidable, but expertise has its domain, your specialty is gynecology, slightly less effective elsewhere."
"I obviously know my skills," Vivian raised her hand signaling him to stop continuing, "It’s out of care for my friend’s mental state that I want to bring her to me for proper care."
"But in the hospital, there are doctors and nurses who can care for her well, furthermore, Miss Lowell herself is willing to recuperate here."
"Alright then, I was just asking your opinion, if it’s not possible then never mind." Vivian didn’t persist further.
Originally thinking, since Summer isn’t happy with the Huxley Family, she’d bring her over to care personally.
But now, it seems it’s not feasible.
