Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 213: Maxim Sinclair’s Motive for Setting the Trap
Maxim Sinclair picked up the small covered bowl from the tray, put it aside, and casually asked Tina Huxley, "What’s in this bowl?"
"It’s just a bowl of clear porridge. You know, this bar is affiliated with our family hotel. I had the hotel kitchen specially make a late-night snack according to your taste. What’s the matter? Is there a problem?" Tina glanced at the bar manager still standing in the room, signaling him with her eyes to leave quickly.
The bar manager obediently complied, silently exiting the room.
So, the room was left with only Tina Huxley and Maxim Sinclair.
Tina Huxley sat next to Maxim Sinclair. "I’ve asked the hotel manager to continue investigating. It’s hard to say if they’ll find anything immediately. You should eat something first."
"If you’re hungry, you eat. I’m not hungry." Maxim ungraciously moved a little further away, increasing the distance between himself and Tina.
Tina’s face showed embarrassment. After a while, she bit her lip and continued patiently trying to persuade him, "At least eat a little, I’d feel bad if you got sick from not eating."
"Why are you so eager for me to drink this porridge?" Maxim checked the time, giving Tina a subtle smile. "Do you know why I don’t want to drink it?"
Tina, feeling guilty, feigned innocence, shaking her head as if puzzled. "I can’t guess, but since you don’t want to drink it, forget it. I’ll take it back; leaving it here is just an eyesore."
"I don’t find it an eyesore at all. It’s you who tampered with it and are now anxious to destroy the evidence, right?" Maxim looked at her with a face full of mockery, calling loudly for Assistant Collins who had been listening by the door, "Come in and take away the food Miss Huxley painstakingly prepared, with additives, and have it tested."
Seeing her plan exposed, Tina stepped forward to destroy the evidence. Assistant Collins was prepared, having brought two bodyguards with him; they quickly seized control of Tina.
Realizing she had been caught in a trap, Tina stopped struggling and calmly looked at Maxim. "You knew what I was planning all along?"
"I’m not up for idle talk with you. Take her to the Sycamore Hotel at the end of the street, find a room, and lock her in. Then announce that the hotel is undergoing renovations and not accepting guests."
Tina’s heart filled with fear. She called out to Maxim, who was already walking towards the exit, with a trembling voice, "What are you planning to do?"
Maxim ignored her, disappearing quickly through the doorway.
Left with no option, Tina turned to Assistant Collins, asking anxiously, "What exactly is he planning? Don’t forget my status. If you dare do anything to me, the Huxley Family won’t let it pass!"
"Miss Huxley, don’t worry. It’s only temporary; you’ll be staying at the Sycamore Hotel. As for how long, well, that depends on how much your family cares about you!"
"What do you mean by that?" Tina couldn’t understand, but something felt off in her intuition. "If Maxim Sinclair really dares to kidnap me, his reputation in Stellarion will be ruined!"
Just as she finished speaking, Maxim returned and told Assistant Collins, "I’ve changed my mind. Call the police directly!"
"Understood, President Sinclair." Assistant Collins pulled out his phone to call, while instructing the two bodyguards holding Tina, "Be careful, no injuries, but don’t let her escape."
Now truly panicked, Tina pleaded, "Don’t call the police! I’ll go with you to the Sycamore Hotel. I’ll cooperate with your plan, just don’t call the police."
Hearing this, Maxim smiled, leisurely looking at Tina, "Do you know what my plan is?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"I don’t know," Tina shook her head compliantly. "I can’t outplay you anyway. I admit defeat. As long as you don’t call the police, everything else is negotiable."
"That’s honest enough, but unfortunately, you have no leverage with me. Behave yourself and hope your family is willing to save you!"
Maxim spoke as he stood by the window, with hands behind his back, silently watching the night view outside.
Sitting restrained in the chair, Tina felt more anxious as she watched him behave like this.
What exactly does he plan to do with her?
Tina thought for a long time but couldn’t understand the purpose behind Maxim’s setup today.
It wasn’t until the police arrived, and Assistant Collins handed over half of the food on the table to them, then notified them to contact the Huxley Family.
Only then did Tina belatedly realize the real purpose of Maxim’s actions tonight.
The Huxley Family.
Mr. Huxley slammed the table, holding the phone with an expression of rare fury.
Also in the living room, speaking softly with Old Master Huxley, Mrs. Huxley looked towards Mr. Huxley by the dining table.
Anxiety filled Mrs. Huxley’s heart. She walked over, voicelessly inquiring what had happened.
Mr. Huxley signaled her to keep quiet with a shake of his head, exchanged a few polite words with the person on the other end of the phone, then hung up hurriedly.
Mrs. Huxley anxiously asked, "What’s the matter? I heard you mention Tina earlier and say to someone to wait, as you planned to bring a lawyer over?"
Mr. Huxley glanced at Old Master Huxley watching from afar, sighed in exasperation, and walked over to explain, "Tina acted foolishly! She actually wanted to trap Maxim Sinclair with a cooked-up scheme."
Old Master Huxley figured out who had called earlier, thumping the floor with his cane, "That girl Tina is too foolish. How could she outplay him? Maxim Sinclair must have called the police, didn’t he?"
Mrs. Huxley was so startled by this that she covered her mouth in shock, then hurriedly grabbed Mr. Huxley’s sleeve, "Did he really call the police?"
Mr. Huxley cursed silently, nodding, "The call just now was from the police, asking me to come over. I need to bring a lawyer. Tina can’t end up in jail; her record would be tarnished."
"Wait," Old Master Huxley spoke, "Call Maxim and ask what he wants!"
Mrs. Huxley, worried about Tina, wanted to urge Mr. Huxley without delay to quickly go.
But Mr. Huxley stopped her with an outstretched hand, thoughtfully looking at Old Master Huxley, "Should I call him now?"
Old Master Huxley nodded slowly, "Yes, call him directly and ask. Tina was surely entrapped by him tonight for some agenda. He’s done this trick when he first took over the Sinclair Family. He’s quite ruthless, pulling a stunt like this surely means he wants something."
Saying this, both had thoughts of the large project the Huxley Family planned to undertake soon.
Mr. Huxley sighed with some heartache, "With his viciousness, he may demand something even bigger than The Bluegate Project. Alas, my fault. I should have warned Tina to stay away from him. She couldn’t possibly outmatch him! Even ten Tinas couldn’t play against him."
...
Maxim Sinclair picked up the phone, looking at the call from Mr. Huxley. He curled his lips, watched patiently for a moment, then answered, "Good evening, Uncle Huxley!"
