Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 471 - 248: No Regrets Being With You (Part 2)
Manager Smith stopped in his tracks, still speaking in a gentle tone, "Why do you feel you can’t handle it?"
Rebecca Quentin explained, "I’ve been learning design for less than half a year, and there’s still a lot I don’t understand. Besides, ’Oversky’ is a major project; how can it be entrusted to someone like me who’s just stepping into design..."
Manager Smith smiled, "You’ve been working hard on your design studies these past few months, and you have great talent. The recent designs you’ve shown me were excellent... I’ve been wanting to give you an opportunity to prove your abilities. Just so happens, we’ve taken on this ’Oversky’ project. Because I know how important it is, I’m giving it to you. Only by you handling this successfully can other colleagues regard you differently, and they won’t keep dragging out the story of your connection to the backstage boss."
"I understand your intentions, Manager, but..."
Manager Smith reassuringly patted Rebecca Quentin’s shoulder, "No more ’buts.’ I know you’re still inexperienced in design, but I’ll have two other designers accompany you to Y City this time. They will point out any shortcomings, so you don’t have to worry about ’Oversky’ being dissatisfied with the design. Just do your best..."
Manager Smith had spoken to this extent, leaving Rebecca Quentin with no way to refuse.
Manager Smith comforted, "Don’t lose confidence in yourself. I believe in your design talent."
Rebecca Quentin nodded slightly.
Manager Smith said kindly, "Alright, go think about the ’Oversky’ design. You’ll be leaving for Y City in the next couple of days."
"Okay."
Back at her desk, Rebecca Quentin leaned back in her chair, lost in thought.
Nicolette Holmes moved next to Rebecca Quentin and curiously asked, "Is it true Manager wants you to take over the ’Oversky’ project?"
"Yes."
Nicolette Holmes admired, "The manager is really good to you, entrusting you with such an important project. If you manage to handle it successfully, I bet the colleagues will be envious of you."
Rebecca Quentin held her forehead with vexation, "Do you think this is a good thing?"
Nicolette Holmes nodded vigorously, "Everyone in the company thinks you got into ’QCS’ through connections. If you prove your capability this time, even if they still aren’t convinced inside, at least they won’t outwardly ostracize you."
"Hopefully!"
"Why do you still seem troubled? Are you really worried you can’t handle this project?"
Rebecca Quentin shook her head and sat up straight, "Since the manager believes in me, I’ll do my best."
Nicolette Holmes extended her hand, "Come on, high five. I’m wishing you success on your trip to Y City."
Rebecca Quentin high-fived Nicolette Holmes and smiled, "You’re the only one unafraid of being dragged into any backlash with me."
Nicolette Holmes leaned in and whispered in Rebecca Quentin’s ear, "It’s not that I’m unafraid; I just have a different perspective from them. I figured if you really are connected to the backstage boss, and I stick with you, I might as well rise to the top!"
Rebecca Quentin was amused by Nicolette Holmes’s words, "Then just you wait!"
Rebecca Quentin had already booked her flight to Y City.
Since the flight would only take about an hour and a half, she decided to leave the next morning, so she could meet with the ’Oversky’ point of contact upon arrival, and hopefully have the afternoon free to visit her sister.
While packing her luggage at night, she remembered how Chester Robinson had been buying her breakfast these past two days, so she decided to inform him.
After knocking twice, she had thought Chester might be on duty at the hospital, but he opened the door promptly.
Chester Robinson seemed surprised to see Rebecca Quentin, "It’s actually you?"
Rebecca Quentin puzzled, "Is it so strange for it to be me? We are neighbors, after all!"
A gentle smile appeared on Chester Robinson’s face as he turned and walked back into the suite, saying, "Since we’ve been neighbors, this must be the first time you’ve knocked on my door."
"Uh..." Rebecca Quentin followed in, looking embarrassed, "Usually, I don’t have anything to ask!"
Chester walked to the wine cabinet and humorously commented, "So, what big occasion brings Miss Quentin to my humble abode tonight?"
Rebecca Quentin smiled and walked over to Chester’s side, "No big occasion. I’m just going on a trip for a few days, so I’m giving you a heads-up."
Chester opened a bottle of red wine and asked, "Where are you going for your trip?"
Rebecca Quentin replied, "Y City."
"That’s quite close."
"Yes, it’s just a three to five day trip."
"Didn’t want me to waste buying breakfast for you tomorrow, so you informed me in advance?"
"I’d feel bad if you went out of your way for nothing!"
Chester glanced sideways at Rebecca Quentin, "Glad to see you have a sense of guilt!"
Rebecca Quentin chuckled, "Doctor Robinson, to show my gratitude for your care and concern, I’ve decided to get a gift for you in Y City. I hope you won’t dislike it!"
"Great, a rare moment of generosity from you."
"You only know how to tease me."
Chester poured two glasses of red wine, handing one to Rebecca Quentin, "I wish you success on your trip."
Rebecca Quentin looked at the vibrant red liquid in the glass and gently shook her head, "You know my tolerance, I better not drink."
She’s the type to get drunk after just a few sips, especially after the incident in France; now she’s particularly wary of alcohol.
Chester’s lips curled, "I guess I’ll drink alone."
Amused by Chester’s words, Rebecca Quentin laughed, then her gaze fell on the wine cabinet, and she exclaimed in surprise, "Doctor Robinson, so you like red wine too!"
"Just a collector’s interest."
Curious, Rebecca Quentin walked to the front of the wine cabinet and clicked her tongue, "Wow, these wines are so expensive... Each bottle must be worth several months of my salary. Doctor Robinson, does being a doctor really bring such high under-the-table income?"
"No under-the-table income, but I do have family money."
Rebecca Quentin suddenly understood, "I almost forgot, you’re a wealthy man." Referring to his affluent background in French high society.
Chester didn’t deny it, smiling, "Since you can tell these wines are valuable, you must know something about wine?"
Rebecca Quentin instinctively replied, "I don’t; I just picked up a little from..."
"Hmm?"
From being with Howard Geoffrey before.
Rebecca Quentin changed the subject, "Nothing much."
Chester glanced at Rebecca Quentin with a knowing smile, "Thinking of that person?"
Rebecca Quentin’s complexion turned slightly pale, "Why bring this up?"
Chester raised his wine glass, took a light sip, and slowly said, "The news reported that ’Skytop’ relocated its first branch to Paris, France. It appears Howard Geoffrey won’t have many opportunities to come to T City anymore."
