Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 219: Genny was cooked
Braelyn’s POV
Child trafficker. Was today going to be any crazier? It was meant to be a relaxing day at the park, but how did it turn into Genny’s daughter, I just got to know about being kidnapped by traffickers? All I wanted was to play the role of the rich aunt for one day, but the world was against me.
I forced a gulp down my throat, the words didn’t make sense at first. They floated in the air like a foreign language. The word felt surreal.
Child... trafficker.
My ears rang. The room tilted. For a second, I honestly thought I was going to faint, but luckily Jamie caught me in time. "Be careful, ma’am," he said.
"What did you just say?" I asked as if I hadn’t heard it the first time. Something flickered across Jamie’s eyes, and he turned to his colleagues, who were in front of the screen, trying to find Alora again. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"I think she was kidnapped by a child trafficker. Another park reported a similar incident where 2 girls around Alora’s age were kidnapped," he said carefully. I felt my body go cold. I have heard the news on the radio while heading to work with Lucien. I hadn’t thought much about it but there was a recent spike in children being kidnapped in the past 2 months and none of the victims have been found
"No..no..n" I shook my head. My chest felt heavy like a weight was being placed there. "This can’t be happening..." Jamie helped me get into a seat
"The last footage is from a few minutes ago. The park is on lockdown. I am certain he is still on the grounds. We will find her soon..." Jamie tried to assure me.
Genny was processing things slower than me. It felt like reality just hit her. Genny’s knees buckled beside me. I rushed off my seat and caught her just in time, wrapping my arms around her as her body went slack.
"This isn’t happening," she kept saying, over and over, her voice breaking. She was spiralling.."This isn’t happening. She was right there. I shouldn’t have gone to the restroom..."
"I am sorry it is my fault," I said automatically, even though my own voice sounded hollow. If I had not let go of her at that moment.
Genny shook her head. "It’s not your fault. It’s mine. I should have warned her never to stray away..." while we were spiralling pushing blame between each other. The CCTV officer was already barking orders and coordinates through the intercom.
Jamie had gotten into his seat and got straight into action. The severity just increased.
"Lock all exits. Seal the service tunnels. Get eyes on every corridor from the bumper car zone to the back staff road."
Walkie-talkies crackled everywhere.
"Code red in effect."
"All units respond.".
"Description: male, impersonating park security, carrying two minors."
The screens changed rapidly, camera after camera flashing past, trying to find them, but it felt like they disappeared into thin air. Genny was pacing around in the back quietly praying.
I never knew she was religious until today. The CCTV guy, whose name we discovered was Andrew, suddenly sat up staring intently at the screen. His sudden action drew our attention.
"Have you found them?" Genny asked, gripping Andrew’s seat tightly.
"There they are!" Andrew gasped, pointing out one of the screen, a blurry image of a tall man in a fake security jacket, Alora slung against his chest, the little boy tucked under his other arm. They were far from the boomer car area and were close to an exit.
Alora’s head was turned, her pigtails bouncing as she cried. It seemed like she finally realised what was happening. It felt like the guy knew the park layout pretty well because he followed routes which weren’t crowded almost desolate
My heart shattered. "That’s her," Genny sobbed. "That’s my baby..." she screams.
The man turned a corner near the service tunnels. "Track that feed!" the officer snapped.
The screen flickered and then went black.
"No!" I screamed.
"He cut through a blind spot, He knows where the cameras are..." Jamie said grimly. "That tunnel leads to the staff loading bay."
Genny’s moved before my brain could catch up. "I’m going after her," she declared, unable to sit still. I grabbed my wrist. " Genny, relax, it’s dangerous..."
"I’m not staying here!" she cried. "That’s my child too, you don’t understand!" she said, prying my hand from her wrist. The words struck me and I froze. I would never understand...
The words made me smile. "You are right...I am sorry, Genny, but it’s dangerous, let the professionals handle it." Genny stopped fuzzing and she realised what she just did.
"Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way." Genny apologies. "But I am going. " she deadpanned
"It’s fine.." I plainly said. I wasn’t a mother so I wouldn’t understand what she feels
The officer blocked her gently but firmly. "Ma’am, please. We have trained teams searching. It’s not safe..."
"I don’t care about safety!" Genny shouted. "That is my daughter!"
Another guard ran in, breathless. "We found the abandoned fake jacket near the service road. He dumped it."
My blood went cold. "He’s changing appearances," Jamie muttered. "Smart bastard."
Genny stumbled into my arms and started crying while I held her. I didn’t know what to say.
The park entered lock down and a special team was sent to search while patrol guards were on high alert. The next few minutes were agonising, the entire park searched until a miracle happened...
I heard it loud on the intercom." A trafficker has been apprehended. He was caught by a civilian" Genny shot up immediately.
"They found her.." she gasped.
"Yes she is at a post being brought here..." Jamie replied. Genny didn’t wait a second more and ran outside to wait. Pacing and waiting for Alora
Then a cart arrived, she didn’t think and just ran. I wanted to follow her but I froze when I saw who was carrying Alora. Same shade of blonde hair, same eyes and very similar faces. Just that Alora looked like a younger cuter version
Genny was cooked
Genny was too overwhelmed to notice the person and ran straight. Alora immediately burst into tears and hopped off the man’s arms crying. "Mummy..."
The man froze watching the mother and daughter duo.
