Crusader King-Chapter 119: Beneath the Statue(4)
Chapter 119 - Beneath the Statue(4)
Indeed, it had taken Cades all but a single use of his newly acquired active to arrive at the island, though he had noticed that the cost of whatever was missing within him grew with the distance he moved, but still it always filled back in if one could say that, and as such Cades had never really been too worried aside from the first time it had happened and the first time in which he had completely overdone it with the sheer distance, a distance of 12 of the gigantic chain links, those that were bigger than almost any other chain links he had seen on any other chains, something that had caused him to almost collapse and have a horribly dizzy feeling.
Either way, when he had finally taken the last step, he knew that the spider would probably already have scurried away, hiding behind the eerily white trees which he decided to take a closer look on, and as such, he took a light and careful step, not only because he didn't want to scare the spider away if she was hiding for some reason, but also because he didn't know what was on the island, for all he knew there could be grass sharp as blades on there after all, he had experienced that before as well. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
And as such he entered the island that he almost instantly found to be eerily quiet within a single step, and as soon as he did, he heard nothing, not even his own heartbeat, and neither were his own thoughts able to surface within the endless silence that now permeated everything around Cades like a thick blanket that kept a fire down, but to Cades it was not much, it seemed rather unsettling if not anything else, but he could feel something, something that was hindering the sound, and soon after he had already found it.
His thinking momentarily driven away, as if silenced by the island as well, he now looked at the eerily white trees with red leaves, those that truly reminded him of the old stories he had heard about ghost forests as a young child of no more than six years old, however, when he took another step forward, trying to hear, or rather, sense the spider, he felt fear so much so that his heart almost stopped and his mouth opened but no scream came out.
To his own suffrage he had indeed been right in his previous assumption, the island was indeed covered in something sharp, it had just been the case that he had been lucky enough to land on a normal peace of what he hoped to be dirt, and now he had stepped on sharp pieces of glossy black stone with his bare feet, and as he did the glossy onyx pieces of stone that stuck out of each other like knives dug into his sole until he infused some magical energy to ward them, who were just about to do something as far as he could tell, off.
Just after his mouth had opened to release his silent scream that had resulted from his surprise at the unreasonably sharp floor and it's side-effects that were probably the cause for the blood-read leaves of the trees, something that had probably resulted from the fact that the stones had seemingly just tried to drink his blood, perhaps even to give it to the dehydrated and by now surely dying trees, it did however close once more, as he finally caught a glimpse of the gigantic spider, and in a place he would've never expected as well.
It quite surprised Cades as he finally perceived the tall, thin black spikes that were protruding from the sharp, onyx rocks that were littered everywhere around here, and within the same instance as he saw it, an instance that he himself had more so related to as an eternity, he had already realized what these tightly packed spikes that he had previously observed from much further away truly were and what it meant for him and his fight against the eximimus queen, his second one.
Seeing the spikes that projected an eerie sense of calm and silence just as everything else on this island had done since his arrival and most likely long before that as well, Cades took a few steps away from the spider that seemed to be about sixty feet away, ending with himself being about seventy feet away all together, this was partially a result of his own surprise and a clear uneasy feeling at the sheer fact that such an advanced monster would hide like that, and especially that a being at the peak of the lord level, a level that should at least result in some level of intelligence, at least enough to rival the demon of the skies if not anything else, was hiding like this, with the black spikes clearly exposed, and with the being clearly aware that Cades had seen it.
All of this only really made sense under one quite convincing conclusion, at least to him and in his own opinion which was the most important thing in the world right now, at least to him.
That conclusion being the simple idea that the monster was trying to lure him, not the other way around, to come towards it and perhaps be trapped in some way, enchanted in another, killed in fourteen others, and enslaved in fifteen ways, this being more of a exaggeration than anything else though.
To Cades it seemed quite unsettling, but he still collected himself and decided to fight in anyways, not because he was brave but because he was quite certain that the monster, whatever it might be in truth, would hunt him if he escaped from the island right now, and he was very much of sound mind to realize that he would not be able to outrun a fifteen foot tall spider that is able to crawl alongside islands and not have to worry about falling off chains, even being able to make it's own in a certain, unappetizing way.
Just as he thought that and collected his heart anew, once more brandishing his blade and holding it ready while breathing in a unsteady but ever-so-silent manner, he began to move towards the monstrous spider that was now hiding under the sand, still awaiting for his active to be able to be used again, instead opting to attack by foot, saving it for an escape-method in the worst of cases.
