Cursed System-Chapter 32: Dawn of twilight
At the peak of the hill stood a fairly large, ancient castle, blending so seamlessly with the night sky that it was barely visible even under the moonlight. The moon itself glowed enchantingly, though the strange thing was that there appeared to be clusters of moons—almost like stars.
Beside the castle stood a colossal wall, stretching nearly two thousand feet into the sky, shielding the structure from the outside world. Thick green moss covered both the wall
Thick green moss covered both the colossal wall and the castle, creeping into every visible crevice. From a distance, it looked as though the entire structure was on the verge of collapsing—or perhaps its owners had long abandoned any intention of restoring the so-called ruined castle and its towering wall.
The outskirts of the land were utterly desolate. There were no signs of humans or animals anywhere, and the air carried an unnatural chill, far colder than what should have been normal for an island like this. The cold gave the feeling of seeping into the bones of anyone who dared to gaze at, making the silence feel heavier.
Yet deep within the castle lay something that sharply contrasted with its decayed exterior.
Further inside, was met with a dim four-colored illumination that barely lit the interior, yet somehow made the shadows feel alive. The light was strange—neither bright nor dark—casting an eerie glow throughout the inner halls.
Inside the castle was not only a vast hall, but the floor was covered with luxurious gold-embroidered carpets, and extravagant European chandeliers hung from the ceiling above dozens of strange figures.
Their presence alone made the air feel dense.
Dozens of people sat upon illuminated platforms, dressed in a mix of extravagant and ordinary attire. Each platform was bathed in dim light, elevating those seated upon them.
At the center of the hall stood a perfectly circular table, stretching just over a meter in both width and length. At the very front were four rows of elevated chairs circling the table, with additional rows placed further behind.
Beside each glowing platform were exactly thirty-six seats, divided evenly—four seats per platform—each one raised higher than the rest, giving their occupants an unmistakable sense of authority.
The people seated there were a mix of men and women, ranging from the elderly to the young. Their appearances varied greatly, but they all shared something unmistakable in common, which were their eyes.
Each pair glowed with an enchanting brilliance—sanguine red, dark blue, light gold, or deep emerald green. The colors seemed deliberate, symbolic. Twelve individuals occupied each platform corresponding to an eye color, except for the fourth row, where only a single woman sat.
However, among them was a skeletal figure sitting among them, impossible to ignore even in the dim light. Its dried, ghostly pale skin clung to bone, and dusty clothes hung loosely from its frame.
Within its empty eye sockets burned two small sickly green orbs of light. The aura it emitted was overwhelmingly grand, far surpassing everyone else on its platform.
After several seconds of suffocating silence, a hoarse voice finally echoed through the hall.
"What do you think, Holy humans?"
"Hmmm? Pardon me, what do you mean what do we think?," replied a man wearing a golden crown, his voice calm and unhurried. His eyes glowed like a miniature sun, radiating authority.
"After all, your kind has been the one calling the shots under the sacred decree from above."
"Hey, skeleton and golden eyes," another voice growled, rough and impatient.
"Let’s cut the chase. Or are you bastards planning to do nothing about it?"
The speaker revealed a pair of dark blue eyes. His figure was barely visible, but anyone could make out a robust, muscular build, a scruffy beard, and spiky hair that had long since turned gray and almost stood on ends.
The skeletal figure ignored the remark completely. It snorted softly, its glowing sickly green eyes staring into empty space. Its dry, frigid expression suggested it wouldn’t care even if the world burned before its eyes.
For a moment, its gaze dimmed—until the sickly green light flared again, as though it had remembered something. Slowly, its attention shifted, fixing itself on anyone brave enough to meet its stare.
"Oh,"
It said casually, tilting its head toward the muscular man.
"Then tell me—when do we plan on harvesting the little mushrooms?"
"Hmmm, gentlemen, please," a gentle feminine voice interrupted. It was alluring, playful, and soothing all at once.
Neither the skeleton nor the muscular man seemed the least bit affected. To them, her voice was no more enticing than the buzz of a mosquito.
The woman seated alone on the fourth row smiled faintly, though a hint of annoyance flickered across her expression. She stood apart from the rest—draped in a light silvery veil that concealed most of her face, revealing only her deep emerald eyes.
They were dreamy, enchanting, and unsettling all at once.
"I believe it is time we discuss the measurement of time concerning the special children," she said calmly.
"Otherwise, we will waste countless hours here on pointless arguments."
The skeletal figure froze, hours.
The word alone felt like a curse to it. Its demeanor shifted instantly, annoyance giving way to grim seriousness. Its mind seemed to race, as though calculating an escape from this torment before speaking again.
"As we can all see, they are not yet of age," it said coldly.
"But we cannot afford to wait a thousand years—or even a century less—for the new reincarnations of the gods’ totem fathers."
It raised its staff slightly.
"Therefore, I propose five years. That is enough."
"I accept,"
The man with the golden crown replied after a brief pause.
"Wait,"
The muscular man interjected. "Won’t they be killed before then?"
"No,"
The skeletal figure answered sharply. "Unless someone wants me to unveil the True Blood Seeker, no being born of twilight shall perish."
It slammed its silver blood staff against the ground.
The entire hall trembled as an ominous presence washed over everyone.
