Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 439: How Did I Offend You?
Outside.
Elena Soo is on the phone with her mother.
"Mom, are you joking with me? I already told you, Evan just graduated. Let him work for two years before buying a house. You suddenly want me to take out a million for Evan’s down payment? Where would I get that money?"
Elena Soo looked slightly agitated.
This issue, her mother had brought up more than once.
Now she said she had already found a house, just needed Elena to provide the money.
Are they treating her like an ATM?
"Elena, your brother has a girlfriend. We have to prepare a wedding house for him, right? Mom has been unremarkable all her life, but luckily, she gave birth to such an accomplished daughter like you. You’ve married into the Miles family and are now a wealthy wife. This little money is nothing for you. Just ask Evan Miles for it; he’ll surely give it."
Mrs. Sutton said.
Elena Soo looked annoyed.
"Mom, I’ve married into the Miles family, but what’s their money got to do with me? I can’t just ask Evan Miles for money, okay?"
The older generation is so partial to sons.
In their eyes, as an elder sister, she should serve her brother all her life.
If she had money, she wouldn’t say anything.
But where would she get money?
Do they really think getting married to Evan Miles made her a wealthy wife?
She and Evan Miles married simply by chance, not because he loved her.
How could she possibly ask him for money to support her family?
"Elena, you are a sensible child. Just consider it as mom begging you. I don’t have many years left. I just hope to see your brother establish himself before I die."
Mrs. Sutton’s tone was full of melancholy.
Listening to this, Elena Soo tightened her grip on her phone, feeling uneasy.
Her mother was ill before, and it was through Amelia Miles’ connections that Wayne Landers stepped in, bringing a renowned doctor to treat her mother, eventually curing her.
Though cured, the root of the illness was still there.
It could relapse at any time.
Thinking about how her mother, though biased towards sons, took great care of her since childhood, she couldn’t bear to disappoint her.
But she truly had no money!
Must she really ask Evan Miles for money?
"Fine, let me think it over."
Elena Soo looked annoyed and hung up after hearing her mother’s relieved sigh.
Returning to her seat, Evan Miles was sitting alone, having almost finished eating.
Elena Soo glanced towards the private room, "Elly hasn’t come back yet?"
"Yeah."
Evan Miles seemed distracted, his gaze occasionally drifting toward the private room.
"Not sure who she ran into; I’ll just give her a call."
Unsettled, Evan Miles took out his phone to call Amelia Miles.
The call quickly connected, and Evan Miles hurriedly asked, "Elly, did you run into someone you know? Are you okay?"
"I’m fine, I’m with my husband. You and Elena take your time eating, don’t worry about me."
Amelia Miles, sitting beside Damon Hawke, replied with a smile.
"Oh, that’s how it is. Alright then, talk to you later."
Upon hearing Amelia Miles was with Damon Hawke, a look of melancholy flashed in Evan Miles’ eyes.
He hung up and said to Elena Soo, "Elly probably won’t come back to eat. Take your time. I’m leaving first."
Elena Soo was pondering the money issue. Seeing Evan Miles getting up, she moved her lips but ultimately said nothing.
He already had no feelings for her; if she asked him for money, how would he view her?
In the private room.
The meal was finally over.
Amelia Miles wore a smile throughout, as she and Damon Hawke saw Kyle King and the others off.
Before leaving, Sylvia Wayde deliberately spoke coyly to Damon Hawke, saying she will report to the Grant Family tomorrow.
That affected coyness full of intention.
It was truly uncomfortable to watch.
Once everyone left, the smile on Amelia Miles’ face vanished.
Damon Hawke held her, ready to take her back to the office.
Amelia Miles pulled away from him and chuckled, "Mr. Hawke is so busy; how would I dare ask you to take me?"
The tone of that was not right.
Damon Hawke raised an eyebrow, trying to embrace her, but Amelia Miles walked straight toward her car.
"Elly, what’s wrong? How did I offend you?"
Damon Hawke grabbed her arm and asked.
Amelia Miles replied with another chuckle.
"Don’t know? Think about it yourself. If you can’t figure it out, don’t bother me."
Does he not know what he did wrong?
Some people were trying to seduce him, calling him "Cousin" one moment and "Cousin" the next, yet he had no reaction!
Really enjoys basking in admiration.
Infuriating.
Amelia Miles got in the car, started it, and drove off quickly.
Leaving Damon Hawke dumbfounded.
If you want him to think, give some hints!
How did he offend her?
Was it because he didn’t invite her to dinner today?
Honey, he admits he was wrong, please don’t ignore him!
Elena Soo returned to the Miles Corporation, completed the entry procedures, and spent the afternoon familiarizing herself with the company’s products and policies.
By evening, she greeted Amelia Miles before leaving.
Ever since she married into the Miles family, she lived with Evan Miles’ parents.
The house was in a scenic villa district.
Elena Soo parked the car and looked at the flourishing greenery, yet her mood did not match the beautiful environment.
No matter how glamorous it looks from the outside, only she knows the inside isn’t the same.
Sometimes, she would rather live in a modest community, leading an ordinary life with someone she loves.
Sadly, this may never be achieved in her lifetime.
Elena Soo gave a self-mocking smile, got out of the car, and rang the villa doorbell.
A servant opened the door, seeing her return, showed no respect, only disdain.
After all, they all knew this bride didn’t receive the Miles family’s favor.
Her identity and status weren’t much different from theirs.
In the Miles family, Elena Soo bore the title of the young mistress but had to work just like the servants.
Elena Soo remained silent, seemingly used to it.
Entering the door, she heard the conversation between Evan Miles’ mother and Evan.
"Look at her, still wanting to work outside? Then won’t you take care of Tilly? Stepmothers are stepmothers, how can they treat Tilly like their own daughter? If I weren’t watching her, who knows if Tilly wouldn’t have been abused to death by her already. If only you had married Leila, I wouldn’t have to worry!"
"Mom, stop saying that, Elena is kind-hearted. How could she abuse Tilly?"
"You know people only by appearance, not by heart. If she had no tricks, how did she end up in your bed and make you marry a commoner?"
"Mom..."
Listening to their conversation, Elena Soo suppressed the irritation in her heart.
She coughed lightly, saying, "Mom, Evan, I’m back."
Evan Miles was taken aback, awkwardly standing up.
"Elena, you’re off work?"
"Yeah, I’ll go upstairs to tidy up first."
Elena Soo smiled lightly and headed upstairs.
Behind her came Evan’s mother’s sarcastic voice, "Look at her, so lifeless, what’s with the attitude? Going out to work? Someone who doesn’t know might think we are mistreating her in the Miles family!"
"Mom, say less, please."
"Am I not allowed to vent? Always with a sullen face. Does the Miles family owe her anything?"
"Alright, mom, take a sip of water and calm down."
"..."
