Daily Life in the 70s-Chapter 238 Wounded
Chapter 238: Chapter 238 Wounded
Yang PeiMin thought for a moment, then, suppressing the emotions in her heart, turned and went upstairs. She gathered a few sets of clothes for both Shen Yiguang and herself, along with some money. Actually, she didn’t know what else to take. She stuffed everything into a fabric backpack until it was bulging, then turned and left the house.
She didn’t know what kind of ill fate she had with that woman, Du Juanjuan; she seemed to run into her several times a day. And sure enough, as she stepped out the door, there she was. Du was holding a boxed meal, apparently just having gotten food from the canteen. Du’s cold gaze swept over, then over Xiao Xu behind her, her face painted with exaggerated surprise, "What happened? You really jinxed it? What are you up to now?"
Xiao Xu glanced at her, his face flashing with something he seemed to want to say but then thought better of.
Yang PeiMin, however, didn’t have the patience to deal with her, her mind was preoccupied with worries, but seeing her block the way, Yang’s tone was also impatient, "Get out of the way, have you no decency? Standing in the middle of the path like that."
Du Juanjuan’s face flickered with various expressions, stung by the coldness in Yang’s demeanor, she subconsciously stepped aside to clear the way.
Yang PeiMin snorted lightly and walked past her.
By the time Du Juanjuan came to her senses, her face had turned an angry shade of steel blue.
How dare she say I have no decency?
That was usually the phrase she liked to use on others, and now this rural woman had thrown it back at her several times, which infuriated her. She thought about calling her cousin tomorrow to figure out a way to deal with this rural woman, to make her walk around her from then on, or even to dare not live here anymore, just to get her out of her sight.
By the time Yang PeiMin and Xiao Xu arrived at the military hospital, it was already after eight in the evening, and it had gone completely dark. There weren’t many people in the hospital, especially family members.
Shen Yiguang, because of his honorable injury, received special treatment and was placed in a VIP ward.
As she opened the door, Shen Yiguang, who was lying on the hospital bed, immediately looked over, delighted, "Wife, you’re here."
Yang PeiMin walked in expressionlessly, checked on his injuries by the bed – his entire right leg was wrapped in white bandages, but his face was all smiles, without a trace of the consciousness of an invalid, even a hint of a flatterer’s smile. "Minmin must be tired from rushing over here, have a seat and rest, have you eaten? There are apples and biscuits on the table, have a snack, and I’ll have Xiao Xu buy something hot for you."
Yang PeiMin kept a cold face, "No need, I’ve had my fill of anger today."
Shen Yiguang’s face also showed a trace of remorse, "I didn’t want to worry you, you see, this angry and worried look of yours isn’t good at all."
Xiao Xu, following behind Yang PeiMin, initially wanted to greet his boss, but now it seemed like he shouldn’t make a sound?
However, he felt as though he had opened his eyes to something new – he hadn’t expected to see how his boss cajoled his wife. It seemed there was a reason the Boss had managed to marry such a handsome wife; he would have to learn a thing or two to get married soon himself.
But then the boss’s eyes swept over here – that wasn’t good, there was a hint of a killing intent.
Based on his past experience, this was a warning glare.
Sure enough, in the next second, the boss’s cold voice rang out clearly, "Xiao Xu, didn’t I tell you to go buy food? Why are you standing there like a block of wood?"
Xiao Xu responded, "Yes, I was just about to go, but I hadn’t asked sister-in-law what she wanted to eat yet?"
Yang PeiMin said, "See if there’s any porridge, get a portion of that. It doesn’t really matter what else at this hour, and thank you for your trouble."
Xiao Xu hurriedly left after acknowledging her.
Now, only the two of them were left in the room.
Shen Yiguang grabbed Yang PeiMin’s hand, "Wife, don’t be mad..."
Yang PeiMin turned her face slightly, and finally couldn’t help asking, "Does it still hurt?"
Shen Yiguang grinned, placed her hand on his face, and said blissfully, "It doesn’t hurt at all."
"How did you end up like this? Where are you hurt? What did the doctor say?"
"It’s nothing serious. I just took a fall on my waist and abdomen. Despite how it looks, it’s just a skin injury. A bullet grazed my leg without penetrating; it’s not severe. The doctor said I could be discharged in a few days."
He spoke with an air of casual ease.
Yang PeiMin was somewhat skeptical; he had already hidden the truth from her once, and she wondered if he might do so again. She reached out to lift the blanket and check his other injuries.
Shen Yiguang shifted uncomfortably and pleaded, "Wife, I’m really not lying to you."
Yang PeiMin: "..."
Before Xiao Xu came up, Yang PeiMin prepared to give him a wipe down, "All these days, has anyone bathed you?"
Shen Yiguang shook his head, "They’re all so rough; they can’t clean thoroughly. Only my wife knows what I need. Without you, I’d have turned into pickles by now."
Yang PeiMin gave him a sideways glance, "Weren’t you keeping secrets from me? If I hadn’t come, you’d have turned into a salted fish."
Shen Yiguang nodded hastily.
The ward had hot water and a new set of hygiene products, including towels and basins.
Yang PeiMin swiftly mixed the water and carefully wiped the uninjured areas on Shen Yiguang.
Lying semi-reclined, Shen Yiguang watched her hands move lower and asked with a somewhat hoarse voice, "Wife, is the door closed properly? A doctor will come round for a check-up soon."
Yang PeiMin also glanced at a certain part of him, her face blushed slightly as she got up and bolted the door securely.
"Lie back properly, don’t move around, and don’t let your mind wander," Yang PeiMin warned beforehand.
Shen Yiguang looked somewhat innocent, "Wife, I really can’t control that."
Yang PeiMin gave him another sideways glance.
She kept on wiping him down, ignoring whatever flights of fancy he might be entertaining.
Just as she was doing this, someone knocked at the door.
Yang PeiMin responded, "Just a minute..." freёnovelkiss-com
She put away the things in her hands before opening the door. A nurse walked in, "I came to check, this comrade has been hospitalized for several days without family to look after him, and the hospital is concerned."
As she spoke, the nurse sized up Yang PeiMin, "Who are you to the patient? What were you doing just now?"
That sounded slightly off—she had registered when she arrived, and the head doctor should have notified the nurse of her identity. Even though Yang PeiMin thought as much, she still answered, "I’m his wife; I was just giving him a wipe down."
The nurse looked somewhat surprised, "Mr. Shen had just been cleaned recently. It’s good to be clean and hygienic, but be careful not to touch his wounds. There’s no need to bathe him several times a day."
Yang PeiMin nodded in acknowledgment, "Thank you, comrade, for your concern. I’ll keep an eye on him here. If there’s any issue, I’ll call someone."
The nurse nodded, but she didn’t leave just yet. Instead, she approached Shen Yiguang and inquired about his condition, "Mr. Shen, how are you feeling now? Any dizziness?"
