Daily Life in the 70s-Chapter 26 - I Marry You
Chapter 26: Chapter 26 I Marry You
Yang PeiMin sat under a barren tree, basking in the warm sun. It felt so comfortable that she almost dozed off, planning to wait there until it was time to go home.
"Are you Yang PeiMin?"
Yang PeiMin looked at the little boy standing before her, around eight or nine years old but still with thick snot dripping from his nose, and nodded blankly.
"Someone named Yang Peiying is looking for you."
Her sister was looking for her?
"What did she say?" Yang PeiMin stood up.
"She seems to have fallen, says she needs to find you?" The boy efficiently wiped his nose with the sleeve of his shirt.
"Where is she?" She became a bit anxious. The little girl was supposed to fetch her water, and she wondered if she had been scalded by it.
"Come with me." The young boy led the way, looking up as he walked.
Yang PeiMin hurriedly followed behind him.

"How bad is her fall? Is someone with her?"
The boy walked on silently ahead, completely unaffected by her questions.
He led her into the front courtyard of the Zhao family's house again and through a crowd towards a small door on the left, which seemed to lead into the vegetable garden beside them. Yang PeiMin became suspicious, "Little brother, that's the vegetable garden, right? Is my sister in there?"
The boy remained silent, hopped over the simple bamboo threshold with his short legs, turned his head to signal to her, "She's inside," and then he ran a few steps forward, pausing to wait for her when he noticed she hadn't followed.
With hesitation, Yang PeiMin also stepped into the garden.
The vegetable garden was bare, presumably because vegetables could not grow in the winter, leaving the place empty. Aside from a small thatched hut ahead and the zigzagging bamboo fences in the soil, there was no sign of anyone else.
"Where is she?" She stared into the boy's eyes and saw his evasive expression, immediately realizing that the naughty child was playing a trick.
"What's your name, kid?" She stepped forward to confront him, eager to find out who sent him to tease her.
The boy appeared to be afraid of being hit and quickly ran towards the direction of the thatched hut. Yang PeiMin chased after him for a few steps but felt a twinge in her stomach. Giving up on the chase as she couldn't catch up, she stopped.
She caught her breath and tried a different approach, "Who sent you here, kid? Tell me, and your sister will give you candy."
The child stopped and looked at her, then thought for a moment and ran back. Yang PeiMin thought he would ask her for the candy, but she didn't carry any on her at the moment. As she pondered how she could convince him of her promise, she was caught off guard when he pushed her forcefully, causing her to fall down.
Pain!
The boy ran away swiftly.
It wasn't so much the pain in her spine from the fall that bothered her, but the sting when her left palm, braced against the ground, was scraped by little stones—a burning pain!
She couldn't bear to put any more weight on her palm and lay on the ground, sucking in cold breaths of air. She felt a tingling pain in her wrist and realized something was wrong—her hand was not only scraped but might also be dislocated.
Yang PeiMin cried out in pain. She had never suffered like this before. Whose child was this? If she ever found out, she would make sure his parents punished him severely! It seemed that only by thinking this way could she distract herself slightly from the pain.
"Help!" She tried to shout, feeling her voice too soft, then attempted to call out again when she heard footsteps from behind.
"What happened to you?" It was a familiar voice.
Yang PeiMin's tears flowed even more as she turned her head through blurry eyes and exclaimed with surprise, "Brother Shen..."
Shen Yiguang quickly knelt on one knee to help her sit up, "I saw Tie Dan running out from here in a panic, even bumped into me... I wasn't at ease, so I came over to check... How do you feel now?"
Shen Yiguang quickly noticed her hand, limp and powerless as it dangled, and his heroic brows furrowed tightly, "I guess it's dislocated." He carefully lifted her hand only to see the palm, raw with a large area of broken skin, blurred with fresh blood; what was worse, the flesh was intermixed with dirt and gravel.
Yang PeiMin took out a handkerchief with her unharmed hand, "Brother Shen, could you wipe it for me?" Without tissues, going out was inconvenient, so she always carried a small handkerchief, just in case, and now it was coming in handy.
Shen Yiguang took it from her, "Alright, bear with it for a moment, I'll wrap it up for you first, then we'll go out to disinfect it." He said, carefully and swiftly cleaning the dirt off her hand before wrapping it with the handkerchief.
Yang PeiMin broke out in a cold sweat from the pain.
"I'll pop your hand back in place, just bear with it a bit."
"Wait, wait a second," Yang PeiMin hurriedly said, busily putting another handkerchief out of her pocket and explaining to a puzzled Shen Yiguang, "I'll bite on this while you do it, I'm afraid it'll hurt..."
Shen Yiguang looked at her tear-stained eyes and nodded, his voice consciously softening, "Don't be nervous... Was it Tie Dan, that rough child, who did this to you?"
As Yang PeiMin tried to nod, snap! She didn't even get a chance to cry out, and he had already popped it back in place; this tactic of chatting to distract was indeed effective, like those doctors who coax children during vaccinations in her past life...
"It's back in place, but you have to be careful, your hand is also badly scraped, and you need to get a tetanus shot at the health clinic, I'll take you there now, can you stand up?" Shen Yiguang supported her by the shoulder, looking at her pale face and asked.
Yang PeiMin nodded, slowly standing up with the support from Shen Yiguang, and when she signaled that he could let go, her leg gave way, and she started to fall backward.
It was Shen Yiguang again, with quick reflexes, who caught her, "Is anything else feeling unwell?"
"My legs are weak..."
And her stomach hurt! The next second, Yang PeiMin suddenly stiffened, realizing she was getting her period...
Done for! When Shen Yiguang had helped her up just before, his hand accidentally brushed over the lower part of her back... There wouldn't be any problem, right?
"Is this blood from another injury on your body?"
Boom!
Yang PeiMin felt all her blood rushing to her head!
Just when she thought she might have a stroke, Shen Yiguang was already looking behind her...
Before Shen Yiguang could say something that might make her die of embarrassment, Yang PeiMin urgently said, "It's not an injury... Don't worry about it..."
Oh God, she truly wished for a lightning bolt to strike her into the ground right now... What kind of situation was this? Her period had never been regular in this body; there were no signs before it came, and these past days, she had been troubled about how to manage sanitary pads, praying fervently for this relative not to visit too soon. Who knew that not only had it arrived, but the flow was also exceptionally heavy...
Yang PeiMin felt like dying.
At this moment, Shen Yiguang also realized what was happening, and the air seemed to freeze in an instant, embarrassment spreading like wildfire... Even the roots of his ears turned a suspicious shade of red as he clenched his blood-stained left hand, and both of them stiffened.
"Don't worry, I'll marry you!"
