Daily Life in the 70s-Chapter 278 Moved
Chapter 278: Chapter 278 Moved
Shen Yiguang supported her with both hands, lifted her up slightly, and called out, "Zhu Bajie is carrying his wife!"
Yang PeiMin couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
"Do you know your sister is here?" she asked.
Shen Yiguang nodded, "I do know, I heard the news from the servant as soon as I got back. She’s been here for quite a while, but since no one was home, she was waiting in the logistics guard room. I went to open the door for her, made sure she was settled in, and then hurried to call your school. Knowing you had already left, I was about to head out to the town to see if I could meet you on the way. When I got to the guard room, Xiao Li told me you were back, so I rushed home and just happened to see you."
Listening to him, Yang PeiMin remembered another thing, "Did you see the note I left for you? Did Yixiang see it?"
It mentioned that she was not pregnant and that he must find her at school once he returned from the drill ground. If Shen Yixiang had seen it, the cat would be out of the bag.
"I do know about that, Yixiang didn’t see it."
Upon mentioning this, Yang PeiMin’s anger flared up again, "What were you thinking? The matter wasn’t even confirmed and you reported home? Now it’s turned out like this, what do you suggest we do?"
Shen Yiguang appeased her, "It’s my fault, wife. We’ll just have to work harder from now on!"
Yang PeiMin couldn’t help but give him another smack.
Shen Yiguang laughed, "Don’t hurt your hand, wife. If you’re still frustrated, you can hit me when we get to the bed later!"
He was being a hooligan again!
Yang PeiMin angrily pinched his ear.
Shen Yixiang came out to see if her brother had returned and happened upon this scene. Angrily she said, "How could you pinch my brother’s ear? Men’s dignity isn’t something you can trample on at will. Do you really care at all about my brother?"
Shen Yiguang said, "Don’t talk nonsense, Yixiang, and quickly greet your sister-in-law."
Shen Yixiang pouted her lip, but upon seeing Yang PeiMin being carried on her brother’s back, she frowned again.
Yang PeiMin, lying on Shen Yiguang’s back, didn’t ask to be put down; she let him carry her inside the house while smiling and greeting Shen Yixiang, "Yixiang, you’ve arrived."
"What’s going on exactly? Why is my brother carrying you?" Shen Yixiang followed them inside, asking Yang PeiMin dissatisfiedly.
Yang PeiMin smiled and did not answer her directly; instead, she inquired about her sister’s recent travels, "When did you leave? Did everything go smoothly on the road these past few days? Have you eaten? Is everything okay at home?"
Despite some reluctance, Shen Yixiang answered all the questions.
Yang PeiMin nodded, "In that case, no one has had dinner yet. Let’s just whip up something simple to get by."
Shen Yixiang just said, "I just fired up the stove. What food do you have here? I’ll take it over to warm it up."
When Shen Yixiang said that, Yang Peimin glanced at her in surprise. Usually, this sister-in-law would shirk household chores whenever she could, dumping everything on her, the sister-in-law.
Receiving her surprised look, Shen Yixiang quickly added, "Dad and Mom said that they sent me over mainly to lighten your load. If there’s anything you need, just tell me. Consider it a favor for my future little nephew." She finished these few sentences with an uncomfortable expression on her face.
Shen Yiguang smiled and praised her, "You’ve become more sensible since you started working."
Yang Peimin smiled and thanked her sister-in-law. From the bag she brought back from the city, she took out meats, greens, and buns which were all cold due to the weather.
Shen Yixiang insisted on doing it herself, but Yang Peimin wouldn’t just stand by, so she also stood up and picked up a plate to wash the vegetables.
Shen Yixiang abruptly pulled her, "Didn’t you hear what I just said? I told you not to bother with these things, let me handle them. Otherwise, if something happens to your stomach later, Dad and Mom will blame me." She snatched the plate from her hand and went into the kitchen.
Shen Yiguang gave her a knowing look, "Let her do it. Don’t forget about your own condition."
Yang Peimin came back to her senses, only then remembering that her current status was that of a ’pregnant woman’ and indeed, she shouldn’t overdo it.
She thought it would be a good use of this time to tidy up the guest room.
Shen Yiguang came in to lend a hand, "No need to dust the bed, I already cleaned it up last time I stayed here. We just need to bring over the bedding."
Yang Peimin nodded.
Shen Yixiang had several reasons for coming over: first, to check on her well-being, whether she was healthy and the baby was stable; second, to convey the messages from Chen Guizhi about what a pregnant woman should pay attention to; third, to bring over some household supplements to nourish her; and fourth, to see if she could help out and take care of her.
After listening to her, Yang Peimin instinctively looked at Shen Yiguang, thinking that he should be the one to settle this situation since he was the one who caused it.
Shen Yiguang was tactful, telling his sister, "Your sister-in-law is in good health. Tell Dad and Mom not to worry. You really brought a lot of things. How did you manage that? We appreciate your effort!"
Shen Yixiang laughed, "This is nothing. I’m not one of those delicate young ladies. Brother, have you forgotten? When I was ten, I could carry a load of rice all by myself, and those bags weighed at least fifty or sixty pounds. Yiyue couldn’t even keep up with me."
While Shen Yixiang talked to Shen Yiguang, her eyes sparkled with laughter, just like a little girl.
A smile spread across Shen Yiguang’s face, "That’s my sister, indeed."
Shen Yixiang was even happier, almost dancing with joy, as she took out everything in the bag one by one. Some were supplements bought from outside, and fearing that Yang Peimin wouldn’t know, she explained their purpose and how to prepare them.
"Mom knows you like eggs, so she had our fourth sister buy fifty or sixty eggs from the villagers. I packed them all carefully with straw in a basket and have been carrying them with me; none has gone bad. These should last you a month. This fish maw was bought by our third sister. It’s said to be very good for the body and can be used to make soup. If it weren’t for the train rules against carrying chickens, Mom would have brought all the chickens from home. You must raise my nephew plump and healthy for Mom’s sake."
Yang Peimin smiled and agreed, feeling very touched inside. Even though Chen Guizhi and the others did all this for her son in her womb, she wasn’t the only woman who could have children. What daughter-in-law could be as fortunate as her, to be treated so generously by her in-laws?
